About
Located in the town of Kingsland on the shores of Lake LBJ, Lighthouse Country Club features 18 holes set in a charming, hill country in the heart of the Highland Lakes. The course was originally built in 1968, winds through scenic Hill Country property full of oak trees and red granite rock outcroppings. From many points, Packsaddle Mountain, one of the Hill Country's highest points, is in view from many spots on the course.
Lighthouse was formerly named Packsaddle Golf Club until the name changed in the fall of 2011 when new owners Rick & Mercy Howe purchased the bankrupt property and revitalized the golf course. Part of the enhancement was the construction of a brand new lighthouse at the clubhouse. In addition on on-course enhancements, Lighthouse constructed a handful of two-bedroom condos for stay-and-play packages and longer term winter homes.
In addition to the golf course, the facility also features a driving range, short game area and a full restaurant, bar and banquet facility.

The fairways & T boxes were great!
The greens need a lot of work. Almost impossible to make good putts due to rough, dry dead spots on most of the greens.
If the greens were in a lot better condition, this course would be awesome!
The greens are poor
We love playing at the Lghthouse. The course is so beautiful. The wildflowers are everywhere. The holes are all different and challenging. However, this time there was a problem with the greens. It looks like there has been a disease that has hurt a lot of greens and unfortunately, it’s going to be a while before the greens get back to their normal good condition that they used to be in. It is a shame because this is such a beautiful golf course.
Greens in Terrible Condition
Greens in Terrible Condition. Some greens were so bad the pin was in obscure positions, sometimes only feet from the edge of the green due to the rest of the green being sandy, dry, and no grass. Tee boxes and fairways were fine. Basically every green was horrendous. Like trying to play putt-putt on the moon.
Good but not Great
Overall layout of the course is good, the fairways were in excellent shape. The greens were terrible. Still suffering from the late freeze in 2023 and they appeared to have been recently aereated . LH would be a gem if only for the greens being in poor shape.
Nice course!
Have played Lighthouse several times and have always enjoyed the experience. Green are currently pretty rough due to ongoing turf maintenance, but fairways are in great shape.
Slowly getting there
Improvements on the greens are in progress. The day I played followed recent sanding etc. so it was a day at the beach. Fairways are good, just off the fairways needs mowing etc- basic spring cleaning. Good rains today so I’ll go back in May for another round.
Aerated greens
Fun course to play. Always easy to get on and a good pace of play. Average 3.5-4 hours largely depending on how quick you’re playing. Generally good value, but the greens were recently aerated, the offered a discount but this was the first weekend going back to full price. Not worth full price right now. They need to give it another month before they hit you with peak pricing. I’ll play legends next weekend until the greens fill out.
Sanded Greens
There really needs to be some sort of warning on this app when the greens are off limits or freshly sanded or being moved or whatever else.
When we got to the first green, they had been recently sanded. It was like putting in a gravel pit.
Needs some time and attention

The course is in need of time and attention; with the greens in the condition that they are currently…. Once they get the sunshine, water, and care they deserve, it will be a much better track and experience. The fareways were pretty hard as well. Guess I needed to adjust my game as well.
The Lighthouse
I've played the Lighthouse many times over the years. Beautiful course with excellent views. I've never seen the greens in the shape they are in right now. Really bad. I hope they can save them before the summer heat gets here. The fairways were in great condition.
We appreciate your review. We are diligently working on the greens and if Mother Nature will cooperate and bring us warmer temperatures at night the greens will come out of dormancy. Tif Eagle greens unlike bent grass need the extra heat. Again, thank you our staff is working to insure greens get back to the perfection you are expecting.

Terrible Greens
The greens are not up to par for charging $60 on a round of golf.
worst course in area
From tee to green it is acceptable. Fare amount of grass and not too many bare spots. But the greens are atrocious. It actually looks like the maintenance crew is trying to ruin the greens. They don't look like they know what they are doing. Won't return until greens are remedied.
Windy Friday before the rain
It’s winter conditions at Lighthouse. That meant I had some amazingly long drives! Those are always fun. The greens are pretty good and I know they are working hard to bring them back. Only a couple are poor, but others are great except for the outside edges. I love the new sand in the bunkers and it looks like there are new golf carts ready to go. Improvements in many places. The staff is awesome. Love this course!
potential but greens are major obstacle
The course is fair from tee to green but greens are abysmal/atrocious. It actually looks like they are trying to kill the greens. The course is in need of professional greens keeping for this area of grounds maintenance. It appears as if they recognize there is a problem but their efforts are only making it worse. There is no satisfaction playing greens that are this bad.
Fairways
I've played this course numerous times and I continue to say "STOP cutting the fairways too short". You play the entire round on the dirt/ground. There is no grass beneath the ball. No need to have grass in fairways this short
