Crystal Falls Golf Course
About
While it hasn't received as much publicity as the other Hill Country tracks since it opened around 1990, Crystal Falls Golf Club is definitely worthy of praise. Highlighted by one of the greatest par 3s in Texas and some outstanding topography, this is one of those courses you'll want to play at least once, if only for the views. In addition to the scenery, the main thing everyone talks about here is the severely sloping fairways that provide problems for those who hit the ball left-to-right. The famous par 3 in question is the 192-yard 11th, featuring a phenomenal view and a 200-yard drop to the green. Club selection is a crap-shoot at best, and the green is surrounded by mounds.

11th Hole at Crystal Falls Golf Course, Leander TX Photo submitted by wshowers on 12/02/2012
Excellent for price
My first time playing in Austin. I’m a 2 handicap and this course was very challenging off the tee from the tips (very tight and sloped fairways). Not a very long course as I had short irons or even wedges into some of the par 5s. The condition was great even considering the greens were punched and sanded when I played. You could still tell the greens are typically in excellent shape. Would recommend playing along with someone who has played here and can tell you where to hit it.
Crappy pace of play - no marshals
We played on a Wednesday afternoon and were stunned at how slow the play was. People were bunching up because of a slow foursome that was at least three groups ahead of us. Other groups were forced to pair up to slow down their pace as well. Very frustrating. Was hit into by dumb also frustrated kids several times. Definitely could’ve used a marshal to kick some groups in the rear end to get around the track.
Nice course and nice staff
I loved the interesting greens, rolling fairways and elevation changes. I believe they have too many holes that are cart path only.
Generally nice course
We have played here a few times last year. It is just not as nice as we remember. The staff is very friendly but the carts were dirty and the course did not seem to be kept up as nice as the past couple years. The price is ok but the course could use some grounds upkeep
Driver location is a must, making the fairways mich narrower than they initially appear. Club length is not as important.
Great Track
Great course, tight narrow fairways, placement ball. Love the views. My only downside is it's not really a walkable track.
Positives and negatives
Very nice course but the pace is definitely a buzzkill, you’re waiting on multiple groups and groups are waiting on you, makes it a little more stressful
One of my favorite courses in Austin
This is a very dynamic course with a lot of elevation changes. You'll likely lose a lot of balls but it's wonderfully laid out and fun to play.
Challenging and enjoyable
This course is one of my favorites to play in the ATX. Started off extremely slow as we had a 6-some somehow tee off with three teams playing what looked to be a scramble in front of us. By hole 4, the marshall came out and broke it up. Fairways were in good shape as recent rains have helped bring out the color. Always speedy greens, but was able to keep in check. Timely cart girl made sure we were well-hydrated.
Atmosphere
Overall the course was a great layout with an amazing layout with different elevations. But those Marshalls are terrible and drive you to push and play at a fast pace to where you can’t even enjoy the course. I was pushed by the Marshalls multiple times and told to bump up to the group ahead like umm no I’m not I paid for 18 holes I will play my 18 holes and enjoy it as it’s my first time on this course. Definitely don’t recommend folks that enjoy being pushed around cause I was ready to throw down in the parking lot but folks was scared. Also, don’t hit over meaning, meaning while I’m still among regulation I shouldn’t have to be dodging incoming drives on the fairway.
Great course, very well maintained and incredible value for the price. Excruciating pace of play that isn’t policed very well by course attendants. Called it after 4 hours and 20 minutes and 15 holes, 4 hour pace of play shouldn’t be too much to ask for. I can understand that cart path only and short par 4/5s can slow things down, but 10 minutes between some shots is wild.
Also saw a grown man wearing a jersey on the golf course…..get a grip dude
