While it hasn't received as much publicity as the other Hill Country tracks since it opened around 1990, Crystal Falls Golf Club is definitely worthy of praise. Highlighted by one of the greatest par 3s in Texas and some outstanding topography, this is one of those courses you'll want to play at least once, if only for the views. In addition to the scenery, the main thing everyone talks about here is the severely sloping fairways that provide problems for those who hit the ball left-to-right. The famous par 3 in question is the 192-yard 11th, featuring a phenomenal view and a 200-yard drop to the green. Club selection is a crap-shoot at best, and the green is surrounded by mounds.

Positives and negatives

Very nice course but the pace is definitely a buzzkill, you’re waiting on multiple groups and groups are waiting on you, makes it a little more stressful

One of my favorite courses in Austin

This is a very dynamic course with a lot of elevation changes. You'll likely lose a lot of balls but it's wonderfully laid out and fun to play.

Challenging and enjoyable

This course is one of my favorites to play in the ATX. Started off extremely slow as we had a 6-some somehow tee off with three teams playing what looked to be a scramble in front of us. By hole 4, the marshall came out and broke it up. Fairways were in good shape as recent rains have helped bring out the color. Always speedy greens, but was able to keep in check. Timely cart girl made sure we were well-hydrated.

Atmosphere

Overall the course was a great layout with an amazing layout with different elevations. But those Marshalls are terrible and drive you to push and play at a fast pace to where you can’t even enjoy the course. I was pushed by the Marshalls multiple times and told to bump up to the group ahead like umm no I’m not I paid for 18 holes I will play my 18 holes and enjoy it as it’s my first time on this course. Definitely don’t recommend folks that enjoy being pushed around cause I was ready to throw down in the parking lot but folks was scared. Also, don’t hit over meaning, meaning while I’m still among regulation I shouldn’t have to be dodging incoming drives on the fairway.

Great course, very well maintained and incredible value for the price. Excruciating pace of play that isn’t policed very well by course attendants. Called it after 4 hours and 20 minutes and 15 holes, 4 hour pace of play shouldn’t be too much to ask for. I can understand that cart path only and short par 4/5s can slow things down, but 10 minutes between some shots is wild.

Also saw a grown man wearing a jersey on the golf course…..get a grip dude

Top tier experience

The course itself is breath taking, the houses on the course and some of the views from greens & tee boxes are worth the money itself. The course conditions are 50/50. There's tons of potential for this course to be one of the top courses in Texas. However I'm not gonna lie there is a pretty bad po Anna issue on the greens and even some of the fairways & even some of the tee boxes are in rough shape. Definitely not unplayable and if you get a good deal it's MORE than worth the money. The course it's incredibly short with ALOT of drivable par 4's and par 5's you can get on in 2. Each 9 has an incredible par 3 with an insane elevation drop.

The layout of the course is so nice and didn't have very many issues with the pace of play, had great encounters with the shop guys inside, everyone made me feel very welcome this is def my new go to fun spot

Poor Pace of Play

I used to live 2 miles from this course and have played it many times. On this date, the back nine got real slow. The player Assistant was scrounging for lost balls instead of monitoring the pace of play. What else would he be tasked with??? I know the guy is a volunteer but a job is a job. When we asked him to go forward and discover the issue, he returned and said the problematic group cussed at him.

Lesson 1: Golfers, respect other golfers and the pace of play. When an official of the course asks you to play faster, have some respect. Ever be in a queue and get frustrated at the very slow person in front????

Lesson 2: Crystal Falls, A player assistant should be assisting and not golf ball hunting.

I'll continue to play this course. Please everyone, RESPECT the pace of play. Some of us don't have as much time left.

9 person party in front of me destroyed pace of play

A group of 9 people were in front of me on the back 9 hitting exploding balls and taking forever. I notified a staff member and nothing was done. I was pretty frustrated with how little they seemed to care

Amazing / Tough

Course was great. Staff were absolutely awesome and welcoming. Players on the course were super fun and find. Course was fundamentally tough but the 11th is worth paying the green fees.

GREENS

Overall greens were having an invasion of crabgrass. Also, there is a few spots of just dirt.

Carryover from rains in July.

Cart Paths are really rough in places.

A wonderful muni.

High School golf teams should help out with course maintenance. It would give them a better understanding of the courses they play.

Might give them an advantage to score better.

A feeling of ownership in golf.

The challenger

Crystal falls is a great course to test all aspects of your game. If you miss a fairway you have a tough second shot along with going OB. Having to adjust your shots with the elevation changes is quite a fun experience. Allowing you to adapt your clubs and attempt new shots you may not know you needed! Overall a fun course. Only issue I’ve found is on the back nine around hole 15 can have a huge backup. Pace of play sometimes an issue.
