Crystal Falls Golf Course
About
While it hasn't received as much publicity as the other Hill Country tracks since it opened around 1990, Crystal Falls Golf Club is definitely worthy of praise. Highlighted by one of the greatest par 3s in Texas and some outstanding topography, this is one of those courses you'll want to play at least once, if only for the views. In addition to the scenery, the main thing everyone talks about here is the severely sloping fairways that provide problems for those who hit the ball left-to-right. The famous par 3 in question is the 192-yard 11th, featuring a phenomenal view and a 200-yard drop to the green. Club selection is a crap-shoot at best, and the green is surrounded by mounds.

Challenging Course
Conditions aren’t the greatest (dry fairway, little grass on greens)…. But typical for this time of year. Paired with a fun group. Will return for future visits.
Sub-Par
The course was in fair condition except the greens were so quick you couldn’t get anything to stick.
Pace of play the day I played was awful and we waited at least 5-10 min on each tee box.
Last weird thing was I paid for my own cart as a single, but was told once I got to the tee box they didn’t have enough carts so I had to ride with another random in my group. Have never had that happen before. Was frustrating especially since I was charged a “cart fee”.
Beyond impressed
For the cost alone and the course tidiness I would play and recommend playing here everyday if you could 🤣 great course lovely staff all around amazing
Good layout but tough conditions
Fairways were just punched and greens were sport at best. However, the layout is good. The course needs a little TLC and some rain. Cost with cart was a decent value. I would play it again with appropriate expectations.
Hopefully better this summer
My first time playing here—I play off of a 5-7 handicap and have played everything from pastures to PGA tour event courses. The layout of this course was rather frustrating for me. I like challenging, but for a course playing 6600 yards, the fairways are extremely narrow and greens are teeny and rock hard. One green was very sloped and the pin placement was questionable for the speed. Greens had to be running at a 13 and the other two guys in our group just picked up their balls because they’d roll all the way down the hill if not made. A few greens were in great shape. My biggest gripe is with blind tee shots. They’re just not for me. Although I’ll never play there again, I do appreciate the challenge and respect those willing to endure it.
Too bad, really!
I last played here in Dec of 2023 and swore I wouldn’t return until I heard it was in better shape. I love the layout and had a couple guys tell me it was in good shape. Unfortunately, in my opinion, it’s not.
The greens are very spotty and bumpy. Amazingly, the speed was reasonable but the bumpiness made even short putts unpredictable.
While they do a great job making the fairways green that are near the clubhouse, the rest are dormant this time of year. The real problem, however, is the amount of the fairways and rough that are bare dirt and rock (see other review mentioning having a “rock rule” to prevent damaging clubs.
This course could be SO nice……but it’s not.
Very Poor
I usually do not write reviews, but this needed to be done. The greens had ONE pin that was not on a slope or ridge. Almost impossible to putt. The carts were horrible. You would drive 20 yards before the parking break would release and jerk your back out. They did have GPS, however, they were mounted by the cup holders on the dash. They were hard to get to, and the touchscreen didnt work very good at all. The cart attendant was rude. The man at the front desk did not seem too interested in helping us at all. At the turn, we went in for a snack and something to drink. Guess what? NOPE. I'm sorry. We're closed today. Are you kidding me? This course is coming off the play-list! Thanks for listening.
Nice amenities. Course staff was helpful.
There are a lot of Hazards. Pace was 4hr. Lady at the Bar in club house said they would be full service by end of February or sooner. There are a few blind holes and staff was helpful along with tech for safety
Good ol Crystal
WAYNE THE GREENSKEEPER is a Savant ...always in the best shape it can be in... layout awesome ... rock rule reccomended for your foursome ..don't ruin a club ... but natural terrain lends itself to caution..... benn playing her fir decades improvement always keeps popping up ..beautiful views nature and homes
Fabulous
Gretting setting and conditions for this time of year.
Course in great shape. Greens were great. Fairways need some watering but that’s due to winter weather. Overall an excellent course will be back soon.
Great course!
Played this course in 2024 and the course improved the tee box on several holes. There was maintenance personnel on one hole. Not sure what was being worked on. I saw places where the concrete golf cart was broken up. I know these are not golf related but it did impact the experience. Also, there is a food truck and it is overpriced and serves a hot dog hopefully was only two days old. Will say the Marshall was friendly and engaging. I am a beginner and will say the course is very challenging. And that makes it a course worth playing.
