While it hasn't received as much publicity as the other Hill Country tracks since it opened around 1990, Crystal Falls Golf Club is definitely worthy of praise. Highlighted by one of the greatest par 3s in Texas and some outstanding topography, this is one of those courses you'll want to play at least once, if only for the views. In addition to the scenery, the main thing everyone talks about here is the severely sloping fairways that provide problems for those who hit the ball left-to-right. The famous par 3 in question is the 192-yard 11th, featuring a phenomenal view and a 200-yard drop to the green. Club selection is a crap-shoot at best, and the green is surrounded by mounds.

I can say I played it.
Couple of fun par 3s, but many unfair holes. You hit a quality shot to only end way right due to severe slope of fairways. Greens were true.
Improving
I live just a few miles from this course and haven't played in a few years because of green conditions. Read some positive reviews so decided to give it another shot. All in all, course was in pretty good shape. A little dry in a few spots, but that's to be expected in Texas when with current water restrictions. Management has done a nice job of turning it around.

Good Course
Course was awesome. Pace of play was slow could of been just the three some infront of us. I’m pretty sure they all hit a second ball on every hole.

Difficult Beauty
It’s a tough course. But in amazing shape, with some beautiful holes. Only draw back is pace of play some days

Great Course
Played twice over the weekend. Knowing the course layout is a huge plus. Course is in great shape. No sand traps; but with some water, some narrow fairways and the undulating greens… makes for a nice challenge.

Could be better
No beverage cart. Extremely hot. Flags were all same color and no reference point. Need different colors or designated positions . Decent layout ,tees rock hard ,fairways ok,but greens in very nice shape

Way Better Than It Used To Be
Having played Crystal Falls going way back to 1990, I’ve seen the course improve significantly. The staff is really nice, even asking me if I was a senior to be able to save me a couple of bucks. And that gesture goes a long way with me. It says a LOT, and it’s not about the money. If I’m with buddies I can have a much better time anywhere and that FIRST interaction in the pro shop…can really set the tone. They say you can decide if you’re going to like someone in the first 7 seconds of an interaction, and I think in golf it might be sooner. The guys in the shop…are generally wore out. They hear and see the same **** from everybody who walks in. “Why’s it so slow? When are you gonna _______fill in the blank”. And if doesn’t matter what you say, it’s how you say it. Crystal Falls is a different layout. It doesn’t have any horrible holes on it, it does have a couple of relatively unfair holes for tee shots. You never know where your ball might go even if it lands in the middle of the fairway. But it’s VASTLY improved over the years, probably from increased traffic and a reinvestment of those $$$ in the course. I’d love to see them build a few mounds or just build up one side of a few fairways to keep the ball in play when you hit it off the tee. Like for example on #1. A ball my partner hit that landed in the middle left a bit ended up rolling out into the rough in 9 fairway. #10 tee isn’t defined either, and a few others. If they did that, and could sod a bit more of the sides of fairways where the rocks come into play…then you’re really going to change the general experience. But overall it’s fine. We waited on every shot. Then played thru a foursome who was incapable of playing a 4 hour round. They don’t know how to play golf. But we caught up to another group, and finished in 4.5 hours. That’s too long. You’ve got GPS on the carts showing where the players are, so you need to get a Marshall out there, help you move these guys up into position. And again, that’s easier said than done.
I 100% recommend the course, even with a few nuances you’ll seldom experience. The greens are not perfect, but they’re smooth and well maintained. And that’s worth a lot. Well done.

Overall course is is good shape, would recommend this to anyone. Greens rolled at about a 9, but green conditions were good.

Played this course a great time of year. Layout is fantastic. Some really pretty golf holes including par 3s with great elevation drops. Greens were in good shape. Staff was friendly, food at the turn was great. Highly recommend!
