Crystal Falls Golf Course
About
While it hasn't received as much publicity as the other Hill Country tracks since it opened around 1990, Crystal Falls Golf Club is definitely worthy of praise. Highlighted by one of the greatest par 3s in Texas and some outstanding topography, this is one of those courses you'll want to play at least once, if only for the views. In addition to the scenery, the main thing everyone talks about here is the severely sloping fairways that provide problems for those who hit the ball left-to-right. The famous par 3 in question is the 192-yard 11th, featuring a phenomenal view and a 200-yard drop to the green. Club selection is a crap-shoot at best, and the green is surrounded by mounds.

11th Hole at Crystal Falls Golf Course, Leander TX Photo submitted by wshowers on 12/02/2012
Great course but very slow play. Tee times 10mins apart will do that.
great layout and difficult greens but very nice course.
cart gps is nice.
This a great course, with great views of the hill country.
Crystal Falls is always a great place to play. I think the well thought out changes in elevation is what makes this place tricky.
Still in great shape
CF has been in the best shape I've ever seen it since they hosted the Hill Country Am
This course has great features.
Generally speaking, I've enjoyed very much thanks to up and down features.
Fantastic Course
Crystal Falls is a great golf course. It is fairly challenging with rolling fairways, tactical layout, and rolling greens. It was in great condition for July in Texas!
The only thing I find disappointing with this course is that it took me so long to find it! I will definitely be back and put this course in my regular rotation.
Great early morning summer rounds
Course was in as good a shape as I have ever seen it. Great views and fun place to play.
Bang for the buck
Crystal Falls is easily one of the best values in central Texas. The staff are very friendly, the greens roll true and the course is challenging, yet still very fun to play. There are many scenic holes and elevation changes to boot. What's more, is you can almost always find a good deal on GolfNow for Crystal Falls. Can't say enough about the staff...make you feel welcomed and they are happy that you've taken the time to visit their great course. Great job Crystal Falls! I'm hooked.
Very very impressed!
I hadn't been to Crystal Falls in many years, and boy have things changed. There wasn't a single home visible from anywhere on the course (with the exception of one way off in the distance visible from around hole 14). Homes are everywhere now and the course has really matured and the conditions all around are superb.
My dad plays awesome courses all over, and hope he decides to swing by Austin to visit some time, because I will be absolutely certain to bring him out to this very impressive slice of golf nirvana. Thanks to all.
Staff makes up for what course may lack !
The golf course was extremely hot and dry. Greens were in good shape and fairway was good. Rough was dry and tough.
This course has plenty of water
This course has plenty of water. No bunkers but not easy.
Course is great condition!
CF gets better every year, with the ongoing improvements. It is excellent condition right now. Rates have gone up a little, but are justified.
Great shape; great views!
Excellent course - challenging, but fun to play. Fairways and greens in excellent shape. Love the elevated par 3s! Loved the pace too - didn't have to wait at all.
Course is greatly improved. Certain Staff are unfriendly
This course has had some major improvements the last 2 years. There are better values on golfnow or I'd play this course way more often. All the staff except Jeff are friendly as can be. Not sure really why but there have been several occassions when Jeff has caused issues with myself and others that I play with on occassion.
Challenging course that you have to play more than once to shoot well.
Very nice course
I realy enjoyed my round here. The pace was great. The marshalls were monitoring the pace as well. For the layout, its not very long, but there are enough challenges to keep you going. There are a few blind shots, but overall you have enough visibility to simply keep it straight and you'll have a solid round. Great scenery as well.
The staff at the course were happy to see you there. I played with my 10 year old son and it was simply a great time.
Nice hill country course
Carved into the hills of Leander this is a very nice golf course. There are a lot of elevation changes which include nice views. The course is shorter than most but there is a good amount of water in play. I would highly recommend giving Crystal Falls a try if you have not before.
Lots of crazy fairway slopes
Good course. Extra fast greens that roll pretty well. Don't go in the rough.....ball either unfindable or unplayable. Blind shots a plenty with good risk/reward on several holes. Overall pretty difficult course but enjoyable.
course in good shape
course has GPS on carts. Fairways were in great shape. Green were good but a little hard. Price a little steep. However, the reason I played there was I was pressed for time and they allow to book 9 holes.
Fast play but greens are struggling for attention.
The greens need water! I played 27 holes in 4.5 hours so play was fast, except for a couples holes on the back 9. I've played here a couple times in the past couple of weeks and the greens are still as sandy.
A track with Hill Country style
Crystal Falls is a Hill Country maze through the woods with some serious elevation changes, long roll-outs and mysterious putts. Players not familiar with golf on hills will be mortified at times as a great looking tee shot caroms off the fairway and into the rough or beyond.
You have to read the bounces and play for the roll at Crystal Falls. Tee shots must be hit up into the high side of the fairway where gravity can take control and finish off the shot.
Putting may be the biggest challenge. Golfers will find themselves facing some frightening, sharp-breaking downhill screamers. Golfers with dodgy nerves will be in for a long day of many putts.
The greens can be tamed with conservative iron shots placed below the hole, a style of play which favors golfers who can subjugate a tendency to attempt holing out on every approach shot. Remember that an uphill 20-footer puts less stress on the game than does a steep eight feet of left-to-right break with a distinct risk of rolling 10 feet past the hole.
Players who enjoy sculpting tee shots on to narrow targets and then playing for good percentages rather than heroism will like Crystal Falls. Both nines loop through the woods, giving players some respite from the city and some great views of the Texas Hill Country.
Fun but challenging
I have played this course many times and it is always in good shape. Even this time it was in good condition, and it had rained a lot the previoous two days. They continue to improve the course and it is always fun but it is very challenging. There is not really one flat fairway.
