Crystal Falls Golf Course
About
While it hasn't received as much publicity as the other Hill Country tracks since it opened around 1990, Crystal Falls Golf Club is definitely worthy of praise. Highlighted by one of the greatest par 3s in Texas and some outstanding topography, this is one of those courses you'll want to play at least once, if only for the views. In addition to the scenery, the main thing everyone talks about here is the severely sloping fairways that provide problems for those who hit the ball left-to-right. The famous par 3 in question is the 192-yard 11th, featuring a phenomenal view and a 200-yard drop to the green. Club selection is a crap-shoot at best, and the green is surrounded by mounds.

11th Hole at Crystal Falls Golf Course, Leander TX Photo submitted by wshowers on 12/02/2012
Very enjoyable round of golf
the staff was very friendly and helpful.
They have made major improvements to the course and it is in excellent shape for this time of year. The greens were fast.
The weather was good and we enjoyed our round of golf.
Was a great course for weekends
Great layout from the back tee's. Then they moved the back tee's up to try and make the play faster on the weekends. Not sure if I will play their anymore. Why ruin a good thing??
Crystal Falls was great
We were able to get in a round while attending a conference in Austin. The staff was great and very friendly. Conditions of the course were better than expected with fast greens that were in great shape. Beautiful views treat you to a great experience for a public course. Would definitely play it again.
The course
Liked the course but every pin placement was close to the edge and on a hill
Crystal Fall Golf course is great
First time play this course, amazed by the beauty of the course Even in winter time. Water hazard is everywhere requires strategic play, knowing your capability. Fun for advanced golfer, I have a single digit handcap and I love this course. Will definitely come back for more plays.
North Austin's best course for the $$
I've loved this course since I first played it. The conditions fluctuate, but the course has been in great shape every time I've played it over the last 18 months.
It's a brutal course. You're always above or below the ball and you rarely find your tee shot where you thought it was. I get a lot of breaks here-- some good breaks, some terrible. My scores fluctuate here more than any other course. I'm rewarded on good days, and brutally punished on the bad ones.
The guys in the pro shop are very friendly every time I go. I can almost always take off when I'm ready and rarely get behind anyone.
The hot dogs in the pro shop are a worthwhile endeavor, just make sure you call ahead if you don't want a 10-minute turn.
Love this course.
Mountainous course with spectacular vistas in great condition
Crystal Falls is a very mountainous course with spectacular vistas. Two par threes have a teebox to green drop of 80 to 100 feet. All the greens were fast with diabolical breaks. Putting requires a delicate touch with an excellent ability to read the huge breaks on the large sloping greens. Fairways had already turned brown due to the winter but the heavily wooded hilly course was still beautiful. Lots of water hazards with many scenic waterfalls and a meandering creek that often comes into play. I definitely will come back (with a digital camera) to play this course again several times even though its a 35 mile drive from my house.
Beautiful afternoon
The course is currently in really good shape, greens are pretty fast. Beautiful course with the hill country layout.
A great challenge. Lots of water when I played due to recent rains.
Have to allow for the recent heavy rains for course conditions. Excellent course to play to test you. Lots of hazards like cliffs, water and steep terrain. Fun to play for anyone who enjoys a challenge.
Great for the Hot Deals pricing.
The course is beautiful. It is true Texas Hill Country with huge elevation changes and gorgeous vistas. I was really amazed the real hill country is this close to the city.
Fairways are narrow, and water hazards abound, but a complete lack of bunkers makes up for it a bit.
I played here eons ago, but had forgotten how nice it is.
When you can land a Hot Deals price, check it out.
great course impossible greens
Great course impossible greens, if you are not within two feet a two putt in never guaranteed.
Very challenging course and worth the money
First time playing this course, look forward to playing there in the future. Very challenging, must hit fairways and greens or beautiful. Must play course for true golfers.
Very challenging course to play but fantastic setting!
Course was in a very nice setting, well maintained. Very challenging course with tight fairways and sloping greens, you better be able to hit it straight!
very dificult greens
There isn't a single putt the is flat or easy on the course. You can make the greens in regulation but the greens are extremely tough and have different speeds, otherwise we'll maintained course.
must plan each landing area
Is a beautiful layout. Undulating fairways. Greens were a bit bumpy. Grill was nice and the staff was very friendly.
Course has lots of character
Nice course layout with lots of challenges. Lots of elevation changes. Each hole has its own character. My first time to play the course but it won't be my last.
Challenging, nice views, my favorite course!
Always enjoy this course, tee boxes are good, lot of elevation changes and slopes, greens are great except during aeration periods but still decent shape, staff always great...can't think of any negatives...a course for better golfers. the 2 par 3s with severe drops are awesome. Course is mostly recovered from aeration as of today
Back 9 Beautiful
Usually this course is a bit expensive for a city course, but we did find a tee time that was affordable. Well, maintained in the dry weather. The greens were much better than most courses in the Austin area during the summer with watering restrictions. We have not played this course for about 7 years and the front nine is built up with houses and it is so sad because the whole course was in the middle of the hill country back then. Now a bunch of houses and noise on the front 9 from construction. The back nine is still rustic and beautiful. Hope it stays that way! What happened to the 18th hole and the "crystal falls"? It really lost its beauty! Other than the course becoming more built up and effected by the houses, the course itself is very nice and a lot of fun to play. You will be exhausted from walking up and down the hills so be ready.
very challenging
Outstanding course, the course had aeration on the greens which was hard o judge the speed on. The course has a lot of blind shots that need to be shaped and accurate due to the hills as well.
Hit it straight
Fairways are excellent, greens fast and true. Not much room for error.
