While it hasn't received as much publicity as the other Hill Country tracks since it opened around 1990, Crystal Falls Golf Club is definitely worthy of praise. Highlighted by one of the greatest par 3s in Texas and some outstanding topography, this is one of those courses you'll want to play at least once, if only for the views. In addition to the scenery, the main thing everyone talks about here is the severely sloping fairways that provide problems for those who hit the ball left-to-right. The famous par 3 in question is the 192-yard 11th, featuring a phenomenal view and a 200-yard drop to the green. Club selection is a crap-shoot at best, and the green is surrounded by mounds.

Tough course, especially on a windy day

Need to play the course with someone who knows it. Several blind and placement shots that are impacted by the hilly terrain. Also, course is hard to find...don't trust your car's GPS.

Hit Up/Down, Slope Left/Right -- just a few extra swing thoughts for you

CF has quite a few interesting 'where and/or how far do I want to hit it' holes. There's a good amount of elevation change throughout the course. The main thing to consider though is the creek -- it basically runs through the whole course in that the fairways will almost always slope towards it. That's something you need to keep in mind when on the tee box. I do enjoy being out on the edge of the hill country with minimal intrusion from the housing community.
