While it hasn't received as much publicity as the other Hill Country tracks since it opened around 1990, Crystal Falls Golf Club is definitely worthy of praise. Highlighted by one of the greatest par 3s in Texas and some outstanding topography, this is one of those courses you'll want to play at least once, if only for the views. In addition to the scenery, the main thing everyone talks about here is the severely sloping fairways that provide problems for those who hit the ball left-to-right. The famous par 3 in question is the 192-yard 11th, featuring a phenomenal view and a 200-yard drop to the green. Club selection is a crap-shoot at best, and the green is surrounded by mounds.

Rude front desk lady/paid for 18 and was going to be charged 15 more

First of all. I paid for 18 holes. And was told we can play the front 9 and just check in again. (Was an older lady who said that). We go back in to check in after the front 9 and was told it was 15 dollars more. This is absolutely the definition of not how to run a business. Until this gets rectified, I will not spend my money here. Its ashame because I like this course. Will have to find another course who is willing to honor simple business!!!

Nice course

Course was in good shape. Greens were a bit sandy but overall rolled true and were in good shape. Pace of play for a Wednesday morning was slow but bearable. Staff very friendly food in the little bar pub was good. Overall can’t beat this course for the scenery and value would play again for sure

Always a gem!

I'm local to this course and can never complain. After recent rains, this course is in the best shape it's ever been for this time of year.

The price is a bang for your buck, I play early morning Friday and there was no one in sight at 7:30 am.

Crystal is always a fun course to play and the fairways, tee boxes and greens are immaculate right now. Greens are slow as conditions are really good, so hit em harder!

Great course, fun layout, lots of slopes, water hazards and elevation changes. Course is a really good value for the money. Starter was super friendly. Pace of play was horrendous but there was a really slow group in front of the one in front of us so hopefully that was just an aberration. Would love to give the course another shot.

Best public course around

Course was in fantastic condition. Greens were great. Course was wide open and the staff was top notch. There’s no better public course within 30 minutes that comes close to Crystal Falls.

A bit challenging, but I enjoyed the day.

Greens were a bit sticky, but overall not bad. Seemed to get more predictable towards end of round. I have no complaints other than my rough time driving today. Will come back.

Best value course in the Austin area

Played this course again and really do like it. Great area and quirky course. The pace of play is normally really good. This particular round was quite a bit slower at 5 hours due to a group of 5 somehow in front of us. They picked up the pace in the back 9.

Highly recommend this course.

Getting better

Crystal Falls is a bit of an enigma. It's set in the beautiful hill country just northwest of Austin. Tons of topography and amazing views. I've played numerous times and honestly it's probably in as good a shape as I've seen it in a few years. That said, it's still a way from being in the top 10 near that area. Because of the layout there are several holes where you can hit the middle of the fairway and still have your ball roll into either the rough or even a creek. The green on number 9 is almost impossible for the greenskeeper to have a reasonable pin placement. Only two small, relatively flat areas on there you put the pin. If you're above the hole there it can be nearly impossible to keep it from rolling 10 - 20 feet by. Same on the par 5 12th hole. If you're not long enough to go for it in 2, then the landing area for your third is tiny!! But I like the challenge of the course. With more work and continued improvement it really could be one of the best in the area. The food/drinks part of Crystal Falls continues to be a problem for them. Not sure why this continues to be an issue for them. But I'll keep playing as long as they keep improving!
