El Dorado at Quail Valley Golf Course
About
Developers eventually had their way with this cow pasture on the fringe of Houston. Loaded with native pecans and oaks and supplemented with even more transplanted trees, the terrain is ideal for golf, with two creeks and five natural lakes on the property. In fact, it's good enough to host the PGA Tour's Houston Open in 1973 and 1974.
The traditional El Dorado Course plays to a par 70 and features five par 3s that go 190-yards-plus from the tips. Jay Riviere designed the back nine.
Jeff Blume managed the redesign and complete renovation of the El Dorado Course in 2009.

Tour features
Course was in tremendous shape. Pace of play well managed. Challenging layout.
Best greens in Houston
Very impressed with the course. Greens are the best of I've played on anywhere all year. Fairways are really good too.
Sunday October 20
Actually played LaQuinta today, not El Dorado. El Dorado had a small tournament going out ahead of me and nobody at all on La Quinta. Course is in excellent fall conditions. Most greens full and firm (there were 2 that were quite bare though). Good day for golf.
Really enjoyed it!
The course is relatively well kept and nicely designed. We played as a twosome and were not paired up with other golfers. We tee’d off just after a local high school match and just before the Astros played the Yankees in game 3 of the ALCS championship. We barely saw anyone on the course, besides the nice lady driving the refreshment cart.?Thank you for the open course Astro fans!
Played Eldorado on a Wednesday
First class pro shop and clubhouse. Plenty of ice available on a hot day with a heat index at 100. Beverage carts came frequently. White tees too far on #17 into that prevailing southeast wind. I always move up to gold on that tee. Lost some balls in the rough and greens were very slow on #11 thru 13... like they hadn’t been cut that day. Highest rough was on 18 past the water off the tee. I always like the ice available on the 10th tee.
That didn't take long! Thank you for coming back to play El Dorado.
Wrong Course
I booked El Dorado but ended up playing La Quinta. The twosome I was paired with teed off early and the groups in front and behind my time were foursomes. La Quinta had some gaps so I went out on it. Course was in very nice shape for first of September. Two greens were down to bare earth in spots but didn’t affect my putting. Also 12 (I think?) is having some drainage work done down right side but apart from not being able to drive down path, it was not a factor. An enjoyable round.
Hey, thank you for coming out and hope you come back to play El Dorado.
August 11
So hot I don’t think anybody wanted to be out today. Played as a line single and didn’t run into anybody. Apart from being a touch dry due to weather conditions the fairways and greens are in decent shape. Greens were recently aerated but didn’t affect roll too much.
Thank you for playing here again and toughing out the heat. Hope to hope you back again soon.
Thank you for the review and for choosing Quail Valley.
Unplayable for 2-3 weeks
ATTENTION GOLF COURSE officials!!!
If you use the GolfNow website to attract golfers then please note when your greens are aerated. This course was basically playable, greens were the worst I’ve ever played on. Starter didn’t inform us either.
Thank you for coming out again, and we appreciate the positive review. See you next time.
Thank you for playing here at Quail Valley again and appreciate your patience on a busy Sunday.
This course has a very good layout
They had just punched the greens the day before otherwise I would have given a 5 star on condition. Fairways in great shape and bunkers in good condition. Played the same course 3 days prior and greens prior to punching were great.
Thank you. We appreciate your understanding regarding the punch. You should have been notified of the aeration when booking your tee time. If not, please contact management.
Always love El Dorado
This course is a nice layout that has something for everyone. The fairways and greens are in great shape with very few exceptions. Always enjoy a round on El Do.
Always enjoy having you out... thank you very much, Bill.
Conditions
The staff was great and the course layout was very nice... the conditions were just a little off. The tee boxes were so hard that I had to use a nail first so I could get my tee in the ground, also the greens were pretty bumpy with new plugs and lots of scabs around the edges.
June 22
Course is in really nice shape. Seemed like greens were dressed recently but majority rolled well. Had a nice day, no waiting until last 2 holes but it was minor.
Many thanks, and we sincerely appreciate your patience on a busy Saturday.
Thank you for the compliments and coming over from Katy on a regular basis. Appreciate your patience with some ares as we work to improve some things around the course after the recent deluge of rain.
