Iron Horse Golf Course

About
Iron Horse Golf Course is laid out in the floodplain of Fossil Creek, an area loaded with woods and a railroad that divides the property into three tracts. When Dick Phelps designed the golf course he loaded it with par 4s that are over 400 yards. This track has only two par 5s, but you'll get your money's worth as they are virtually impossible to reach in two. Iron Horse's best hole is the 462-yard, par-4 third hole, which is generally a bogey hole for the average golfer.

Lots of ground under repair on every fairway. This was one of the better ones. Photo submitted by Ken9948006 on 03/27/2023

Average
Greens were in good shape, fairways were not. Pace of play was pretty good for a Sunday. Starter was over the top. Staff in the clubhouse was very friendly. I like this course but the fairways need some work.
Swamp Land
Firstly it would have been nice to know it was just aerated and only front nine was open, no amenities on the course and no one working behind the bar to even get a drink.
Good Course - challenging layout
I really enjoyed the out of the course, the staff were great. The sausage at the turn with drinks was phenomenal. I highly recommend playing golf here
Horrid Course Management
Course management needs to change immediately. They stack tee times too close together. Partnered with the average golfer on the course being a 30+ HDCP. The course backs up to play an average of 5-6 hours every time. I’ve played over 20 times. Different days and times to give it a chance. The final straw was playing a Monday morning (when the whole world is at work). Backed up to a 5 hour round which is just unacceptable. They don’t physically Marshall although they claim they watch. Fairways are basically never watered. I don’t actually know if the course even has a watering system. So everything is dry and dirt everywhere in the middle of fairways. 60% of the time they close the range because it’s “too wet” for the equipment so you can’t warm up. Even though every other course in DFW has open ranges while raining or even post rainy days. (Have literally hit balls into full sized ponds in the middle of other courses driving ranges). This course only cares about money. Not actually making sure golfers enjoy their round. Good golfers stay away. Hackers paradise. Would highly advise not spending the time or money
Staff was amazing.
It was a warm day. Course condition has some patchy spots. Definite weather damage. However, the course was fun to play. Staff amazing. Even though our electric cart died on 18. They sent someone out with a new cart and moved everything over for us. Thank you.
Fairways horrible
The tee boxes are fine, the greens were good, but slow; however, the majority of fairways were dirt in places. It looked like they had runoff from rain. Not sure why, but definitely dirt on fairways.
Great first experience
Loved it! Was my first time on the course even though I’ve passed it my whole life.. will be back
Great course!!
This is a great course! The greens were pretty slow, but that's probably due to the rain the day before. Would definitely recommend this course!
Yeesh
Great layout, dirt patches on lots of fairways, overgrown greens with apparent weeds… grow some grass, cut the greens and this course would be worth the price
Seems like it is under repair
We have played the course multiple times since it was renovated. Multiple holes appears to be washed out We paid $70 for Saturday tee time. The course may be worth $55 in its current shape.
Nice course
The course is somewhat short (I played the blue tees as I'm 64 years old). Overall I was pleased with the course. There were a few fairways that weren't in great shape but overall it was good. The greens are a little slow compared to most courses but they were consistent throughout.
