Iron Horse Golf Course
About
Iron Horse Golf Course is laid out in the floodplain of Fossil Creek, an area loaded with woods and a railroad that divides the property into three tracts. When Dick Phelps designed the golf course he loaded it with par 4s that are over 400 yards. This track has only two par 5s, but you'll get your money's worth as they are virtually impossible to reach in two. Iron Horse's best hole is the 462-yard, par-4 third hole, which is generally a bogey hole for the average golfer.

Lots of ground under repair on every fairway. This was one of the better ones. Photo submitted by Ken9948006 on 03/27/2023

Top-notch greens
Course was in good shape despite recent heavy rains. The greens, in particular, were excellent. Truly the best greens I've seen this year, by far. Anyplace on the course that wasn't water-logged was in excellent condition.
Good course
It's a good course to play, but our tee time was at 11 and we started to play at 11:45. It rained in that morning, but for some reason they still booked each group 15 minutes parts. Knowing it would be car path only. So of course it was a slow day and took us almost 5 hours to finish. I still had a good time playing, but a little disappointed
Very very good
I like every thing about this course .I would like to play every week , When ever I can here .
will be back
Great lay out ,greens were in good shape staff friendly
Fun layout!
Fairways are pretty narrow and greens are smooth and quick so be ready! Set up is fun and challenging! It's designed for those who play fairways and greens so hit it straight or you're gonna have a bad day!
Course is shaping up!
Numbers 12, 13 & 15 fairways are still struggling, but overall course was in good shape. Greens were fast and rolled great!
Philmeg
Course was I. Good shape. Always a little pricey but at least you get GPS in the cart. The marshal Lynn was very freindly.
Too slow
Other then teeing off 40 mins late and slow play in front of me this course is fun to play. A couple of holes are challenging. The fairways and greens were in great shape. I only played 9 holes because it was so slow. But I will be back
Course is in good shape again. but greens need to be more receptive
I used to play this course years ago and it went downhill and I stopped playing it. The past year or so it is back in very good shape. My only real complaint is the greens are very firm and may be almost unfair in the summer months when things get dry. I hit a very high spin tour quality ball and expect the ball to stop with quality shots, but that cannot be expected consistently on these greens.
Fun course to play, but need to keep the driver in the bag as you cannot overpower this course. Hit hybrids or fairway woods on most tees to score well. Stay below the hole on #'s 3,4, 10, 11 & 16 to minimize your chances of a three putt.
Pace of play was ridiculous
5 1/2 hour round is ridiculous. I've played in scrambles that were as fast or faster than that.
There were 6 players in front of us from the local high school team. We went around them....only to wait another 10 minutes to tee off on #2.
I usually like playing at Iron Horse and have played there many times, but this was VERY disappointing.
Ok for $27.00
Booked a round for a Friday afternoon. Wow was it CROWDED. Had to wait on a cart, had to wait on 1st tee for 2 foursomes to get started. Once going the pace was about what you would expect for it being this crowded. Entire 18 took about 5 hrs. The course was in average shape. Some bunkers with great sand, some not so much. Layout is ok. A few elevation changes. Greens were very average. Have played here 3-4 times previously. Never when this crowded. Will play again just not on a Friday afternoon.
Bang for your buck
Great layout, Green fairways, and challenging greens. Course set up make for some fun shots into the greens. Overall, very good conditions and absolutely worth every penny. One of my most favorite courses in the dfw area for sure.
Greens were fast
Course was in good shape, the greens are very fast
A Good Day on the Course
Even a bad day on this course is better than sitting in side at the office.
Nice course
Course in good condition, greens nice but too dry. They were hard and fast, had trouble sticking the ball. Enjoyed it.
Ironhorse is a really fun course and not so difficult so everyone can have a good time
Course is coming around really good now that Spring is here. Some areas around the greens are thin making chipping tough. But the fairways are deep green and getting really nice to hit from . Greens are fast but roll extremely well. A nice course for everyone . Not too hard and you can use Irons off lots of tees. The staff is awesome .
Ironhorse
It was a very challenging course considering the greens were extremely fast and it was a very windy day. It was the first time I had played the course so it was all new to me and it challenged the best parts of my game. I didn't interact with the staff very much so I cannot comment on their friendliness but they were cordial and getting me a cart and teatime. I got a great deal on golf now to play the course, almost 51% off and at that price I would definitely play it again and refer a friend.
Overall Good Value
We typically play this course once every few weeks. One of the few courses in the DFW area that still over seed the fairways, tee boxes, and chipping areas during the winter months. The golf course is a target golf course with very fast greens. Course conditions are usually above average and practice areas and staff are top notch for a city course. With daily specials, this course is a great value.
Poor Course Management
No marshals. Took over 1:45 minutes to play 6 holes. I left after the 6th hole. Total waste of time and money.
Hidden Gem in Fort Worth
I have always liked the layout at the 'Horse'! The most recent staff is VERY COURTIOUS and the course is coming around from Winter Conditions to Spring Conditions. They must have a new Greens Keeper because they are in much better shape than they used to be! Good work guys!
