Iron Horse Golf Course
About
Iron Horse Golf Course is laid out in the floodplain of Fossil Creek, an area loaded with woods and a railroad that divides the property into three tracts. When Dick Phelps designed the golf course he loaded it with par 4s that are over 400 yards. This track has only two par 5s, but you'll get your money's worth as they are virtually impossible to reach in two. Iron Horse's best hole is the 462-yard, par-4 third hole, which is generally a bogey hole for the average golfer.

Lots of ground under repair on every fairway. This was one of the better ones. Photo submitted by Ken9948006 on 03/27/2023

BE AWARE!
I play this course 2-3 times a month. The facilities are in good condition and the course is always well maintained. The staff, however, never seems to enjoy being there AND MY BIGGEST ISSUE is that they will PULL THE PINS on you with 45 minutes of daylight left. This has happened to me (and everyone else on the course) 3 out of the last 4 times I've played. I can understand pulling them at dusk but when the sun is still 45° from the horizon? So don't book a tee time after 1 pm (in the winter) and expect to have a target to shoot at on the last 2-3 holes.
Too expensive/bad service
I've played at iron horse 3 times now and every time the guy who works in the pro shop is a total jerk. No personality and makes no effort at all to be the slightest bit friendly or accommodating. The course of nice and fun but for 50$ it is not worth it. You can pay almost the same price and play at the beauitful Texas star and get free range balls. Iron horse is not worth the money
Great course
This is a great course I can see why it is on the top ten list for metroplex golf courses , every hole is different and makes you think outside the box , can't wait to play again :)
staple of the area.
We play the course a lot of times during the year. Its always been a great challenge. Does
good course
Played this course Saturday and it was in great condition my complaint is on hole 14 the maintence guy takes the flag and tells us that they are closing early and if we have a problem with that take it up with his boss it was 415 and we had atleast another hour and a half before it gets dark so we talked to the manager and he said it was a misunderstanding that he told the guy just take the flags out which still baffles me why you take the flags out before everybody finishes I still like the course and will play again!
Good Morning Round
Tough, tight course. First tee time out and ranger was asking us to pick up the pace after the 2nd hole with no one behind us. He stayed on us throughout the round, yet we never had a single group wait on us. Just made the day feel rushed right from the start.
fun course
Fun little course grab a 3 wood and irons and your on your way. Tight fairways with lots of areas to work the ball around bends. Have fun...
Iron Horse Rocks
We are fairly new to the game of golf but willing to try new courses and accept new challenges. Iron Horse rates at the top for us. The staff was very informative and friendly and encouraging. Although we could have been paired with two advanced players, the starter let us play as a twosome. The course is beautifully laid out, is in great condition and the greens, though challenging, were very true. We played in 4 hours, with only the last three holes showing a slight backup. This is a great value and I will play Iron Horse every chance I get. I encourage you to do the same.
Very Challenging
One of the golf course with lots of challenges. Par 70, nice and narrow fairway, nice lay out and good green conditions. The best part is the price that hard to find in DFW area with this kind of course. I will definitely play again.
Nice!
In very good shape for so late in the season ! Very good amenities & decent prices during the week ,great people's irking there.... A little pushy due to overbooking though... Let people enjoy there round .. Please
Tough, tight course.
Course was fun, but extremely tight and the layout was a little odd. Rough was thick and challenging, and greens undulating. Tough course to play if your long ball isn't straight. Clubhouse guys were great and extremely accommodating. Carts were super nice.
Friendly staff
Staff was friendly and made me feel welcome. It was fairly busy and marshals did a good job of putting singles together so everyone could get off in a timely manner. Hope to be back soon
Great Course For The Money
Little bit of slow play but overall the course is in great condition. The greens were in good playable shape. I couldn't beat the price I paid for that course.
Late Summer Round
The course was in overall good shape. The greens were a little too slow for my taste but did roll true. I recommend the course if it's convenient. I wouldn't drive far to play it.
Great value
Great value for the money. Would play this course again.
Seriously need signs
This course seriously needs signs to the next tee. Going from #1 green to #2 tee you have to go back down #1 fairway a little and take a 90 left that looks like it just goes into the residential area. We missed that turn and had to back track.
Going from #11 green to #12 tee we just continued past the green like normal, only to see #18 tee. So we backtracked and you have to go back down #11 fairway and turn right and go under an overpass to get to #12 tee. No signs that we saw to prevent that mistake. If you were walking, that walk up to #18 is brutal and then to find you are at the wrong tee and have to walk back and then to get to #12 tee you have a long walk under an overpass, that would have been brutal.
We when finished #18, had no clue how to get back to the cars. The GPS map is not that easy to follow. You aren't sure which direction you and when we moved the cart just 20 feet or so to get an idea of the direction we are going, the screen changes to "Two-Way traffic, be careful" and the GPS screen went away, so we had to go back and go the other direction to see which way we were headed.
Just a few signs would make an amazing difference.
Enjoyed the round.
All was good. Enjoyed the course.i have Nothing else to say.
Slow greens/good staff
The course was in pretty good shape. The greens were a bit slow though which is fine. I had some problems with Golfnow showing my tee time, but the staff helped me out and squeezed my group in, good job. Great course for the money.
Great course for the money
I'm most satisfied with the pace of play. If for some reason the group in front is going a little slow, the Marshall has always asked me if I want him to tell them to step aside and let me play thru. GPS is great on this course and also helps keep the fairways nice. I can always find great deals pretty much any day of the week.
Green Fee is not in proportion to condition of course
The fairways were rough at best on many of the holes. There is construction on the highway which makes for breathing pure dust in a few locations. I would consider paying $15 to play this course in the condition it is in.
What's the thought behind pulling the pins anyway?
