Iron Horse Golf Course
About
Iron Horse Golf Course is laid out in the floodplain of Fossil Creek, an area loaded with woods and a railroad that divides the property into three tracts. When Dick Phelps designed the golf course he loaded it with par 4s that are over 400 yards. This track has only two par 5s, but you'll get your money's worth as they are virtually impossible to reach in two. Iron Horse's best hole is the 462-yard, par-4 third hole, which is generally a bogey hole for the average golfer.

Lots of ground under repair on every fairway. This was one of the better ones. Photo submitted by Ken9948006 on 03/27/2023

Awful
Reserved online, Golfnow, mine and all others were completely dis-regarded. There was no tee-time. Never called to 1st tee. When I got to the first tee I found out is was 1st come 1st serve as far as getting started. 4 groups already waiting and two in the fairway. Way OVER BOOKED!!!
Great course for the price
Played 36 holes for $40. Can't beat that. Course was in excellent condition. Pace of play was great on my first 18. It kind of backed up on my second 18 maybe 15 min off the pace. Overall course was challenging. My second 18 I knew what clubs to hit off the tee and played ALOT better. I would recommend this course to anybody.
Always a Great Track
Iron Horse never disappoints. The weather was unheard of for Mid-February. As you would expect, the grass on the fairways was dormant and wearing thin from all of the winter play. Nothing you can do about nature and being able to play in shorts in February is something golfers in other parts of the country wish they could do. The greens were in good shape and rolled pretty true. The slickness of the green on hole #10 continues to be almost unfair. Cart staff was friendly as were the folks in the clubhouse.
Really good condition despite the rain.
I was surprised at the condition because of all the rain the area has gotten lately. Some mud holes, but nothing like we were expecting.
Greens were perfect, very fast and very smooth, again their greens crews must be top shelf.
No problem playing there again.
Great Ft Worth Destination
The course was in great shape and set up for a challenging, fun round. The green speeds were excellent, rolling at a pace of 12+. iron Horse provided everything I look for in a good day of golf! I'm a student at the University of Florida, visiting my parents for the holidays. Iron Horse was a great choice to golf as I try to discover the great courses in the DFW area. Iron horse has the best greens I've golfed on in the area.
Very nice!!
My start time was 1:20 and I didn't have anyone behind to push the pace of play. The greens , fairways were in good condition inspite of heavy rain. The course is more like a country club vs typical public course. I came away impressed as well as the three some I was paired with. We were all happy. The website description stating you will use every club in the bag was spot on.
Iron Horse
The course was overall in very good condition, however it was very wet and muddy in a few places.
The clubhouse is very clean, the parking is plentiful and the staff is very friendly. I always enjoy playing this course. it is not very long, but it has a lot of character with the turns on the fairways and greens. The greens were in very good shape.
Not for the Vacationer
There on vacation. Pro shop and restaurant staff were very friendly and responsive. They did however plan to make a 'fivesome' out of three singles and a twosome. Luckily the fifth didn't show. That group would have comprised myself (an 8 handicap from most second sets of tees) a senior (good senior player, not long but probably a 10+- from appropriate tees) a twosome that complained of being grouped with others and proved to be extreme novices in their level of play, pace of play, and other course etiquette and basic 101 procedures. Who knows what the fifth may have presented. Needless to say pace of play suffered even though we all played from the tees of the marshall's 'guidance'. The course is situated in a residential community and it has plenty of homes to distract a recreational player. I didn't see this in any of the online information I found. Not what I look for in 'vacation' golf. It's apparent that the superintendent works diligently to provide a well maintained property in typically arid conditons with lots of traffic. Not sure I will play there again as there are too many choices in the area for a vacationer.
Fun Track
Played Iron Horse for the first time and really enjoyed the track. Short course that requires ball placement. My only complaint is that the greens would not hold a approach shot. Granted it was at the end of summer but still to not be able to hold a very high approach shot with a 9 or PW is very frustrating.
Fun layout
Course was in great condition. Staff friendliness was just so-so. My t time was 2:30 on a Tues, I thought it would be less crowded, I guess a lot of people(like me!) snuck out of work. It was a 4:20 minute round. Great layout, some wide fairways, some narrow. I would say it's a placement course...
Great Course
The course is in great shape, greens are hold shots when hit with scoring irons.
Nice layout course
This is Second time I played n enjoyed.
But too many single player!!! Following behind!!!!
Golf Course Management
Course overall in good shape. Greens were punched recently but rolled and held true. Very Wet may have been over watered around greens. Tee boxes needed to be mowed. Still one of my favorites!
Take a Course Map
Course was in good condition. There are a few quirky holes that I really don't know how they expect you to play and par. Routing is very confusing, I had to be shown by the marshall directions to a few holes. Overall, a good experience for the first time playing this course.
Challenging Course
Greens were bumpy and had been recently punched with some sand still on the them. Fairways were in pretty good shape, except where they had over watered in some area like the fairway of number 10 and in front of some of the greens.
Great Course
Course is in really good shape and staff is friendly. Range and putting green are nice. I will definitely play there again.
Good pace of play. Good stafg
Great conditions. Pace of play good. Had league starting so we had to jump to different holes. No biggie. Played few extra with no problem. Beverage cart staff great.
Will test every part of your game
Your handicap will travel well if this is your home course. The greens are a bit slow, but very smooth. Miss a fairway and you pay for it with a stroke chipping back into play. The course is not long, but it is demanding. As Feherty says "It sets up perfectly for an accurate tee shot". Greens hold well, cart girls are frequent and friendly, can't say no to the sausage, jalapeno dogs at the turn on pretzel bun, best in town. When the wind is up, this course has teeth! Beautiful property in the heart of mid-cities. WELL worth the price!
Good. Greens
T boxes were horrible. The majority of them were not level at all
