Iron Horse Golf Course
About
Iron Horse Golf Course is laid out in the floodplain of Fossil Creek, an area loaded with woods and a railroad that divides the property into three tracts. When Dick Phelps designed the golf course he loaded it with par 4s that are over 400 yards. This track has only two par 5s, but you'll get your money's worth as they are virtually impossible to reach in two. Iron Horse's best hole is the 462-yard, par-4 third hole, which is generally a bogey hole for the average golfer.

Lots of ground under repair on every fairway. This was one of the better ones. Photo submitted by Ken9948006 on 03/27/2023

Greens were still recovering from aeration but overall were pretty good. Give it a week or so and they'll be very good.
Good course in good condition and the facilites are very nice.
Pace of play was 4 hours, but could have been better. We met a group of 2 players on the back who were holding up 5 groups behind them.
But pace of play is an issue everywhere nowdays...
Great Pace / Great Condition
Don't let the yardage fool you. There are short holes, but long bombers may need to club down. It was a great pace of play in just under 4 hours. The course was in excellent condition. The staff is friendly and eager to assist. If you have the time, make it out to play, you won't be disappointed.
$27 it can't be beat
First time I have played this course. It was very help to have their gps system. Staff was very friendly. Green were easier than other courses however layout gave challenges.
This course is very strategic. Plays shorter than advertised and the greens were true to form and consistent.
visiting DFW area and 1st time ever on course. I would play again when back in area. Nice course. Good shape. Hats off to staff very accommodating and friendly.
Good all-around topped off with excellent service
Course is in very good shape. Multiple tee boxes make what can be a very tough course playable for all levels. Outstanding staff all over the course (pro shop, marshalls and beverage carts)
Don't fooled by the yardage......
Don't be fooled by the seemingly short yardage of this course. There are only two par 5's and two of the par 3's are 200+ yards.
The course was in good shape on 6/20/2013 when I played. I played from the tips that are about 6,700 yards. Although the course was well maintained the fairways were a little high and spongy resulting in drives that did not roll out, which made the course also play longer. The greens have a more course blade bermuda grass and they too were a little long and spongy. The grass on the greens was full, they could have cut them lower for sure. The fairways on most holes are tree lined which also puts a premium on the tee balls. Bunkers on the course were raked and acceptable. There were not many players on the course the day I played and our group was waived through on a couple of occasions....we played in just over 3 hours. Nice...
Great place, poor management
Love the course, but am always disappointed by the lack of attention paid to the pace of play., especially on the back nine where the course seems to always back up. My group played the front nine in right at two hours. At the turn we ran into a group of of beginning folders with no and etiquette and and no supervision. The back nine took just over three hours, and when I requested a players assistant on number twelve I never got a response. I then called the pro shop because the group in front of us was not only slow but were very dangerous. On two separate occasions they almost hit people in other groups and never called fore. Again no response from the pro shop. Very disappointed that a golf facility of that nature can't afford to have players assitants on the course.
Course is in amazing condition!
Iron Horse has always been a well maintained course and this round certainly lived up to its reputation. The course conditions are immaculate and the greens are perfect. Every putt rolls true. Plus, you won't find a nicer and more friendly staff or better looking cart girls for that matter. Play this course... you will be very happy you did.
Always a treat to play here
Course was in great shape, as were all bunkers and greens. New carts with GPS are awesome, even though mine died on number 11. The staff had a new one out to me as I finished the hole by walking. Finding a great price makes this an even better course!
A fun course to play!
This was a fun course to play. Some target golf and some holes where you can let it rip. Greens rolled well with some tough reads. Clarissa the cart girl was awesome. On the down side my friend Dave bought beer and it was $27. OUCH!
Course was in great shape
Course was in great shape, I was the first one out in the morning, playing as a single - so pace of play was very fast for me.
Greens were in Great shape. The course had some old Train cars as part of the layout, which added to the ambience.
Iron horse Memorial weekend
fairways and greens in great condition. front nine beautiful, back nine needs clean up, probably due to highway construction
Course had some interesting holes!
Course had a unique layout. the grass in the fairways was too short in places and the rough had areas that needed work. Price was great & pace of play under 4 hrs.
Fairways & greens in good shape
VERY tough course. You'll learn when to keep the driver in the bag. Fairways & greens in good shape.
Nice track
It was is good shape, the greens were nice and held...tight layout..
Not a long course but requires shot making. Could lose 20 balls or 1, keep it in the fairway.
course was in good shape, GPS system is top notch, can't wait to go back.
Good condition for early Spring
This course has a lot of trees and other places to lose a ball which contributes to the slow pace of play. Every time I have been there it has been around 5 hours. No I am not the one holding things up. Anyway, that being said. It is a challenging course with interesting greens. If you hit your drives over 250 yards, you should play the tips or leave the driver in the bag. It is a short course from the Men's tees and the driver WILL get you in trouble if your accuracy is not pinpoint. The new GPS system is awesome. It has a touch screen and you can get custom distances to hazzards and landing areas.
Good course. Great price.
This course is a terrific value. The layout, while not lengthy, can present plenty of challenges. I'd consider it target golf based on the doglegs and some of the positioning of creeks cutting across fairways. But there are a few holes thatbyou can grip-n-rip. Staff was incredibly friendly! Overall a great experience.
Good value, challenging, friendly staff, could use some upkeep
We played this course last Sunday afternoon. It was a decently challenging course, with some tricky driving holes and fast greens. Didn't like the layout around 7/8/10/11 - the holes run together, and are right next to the highway, so it feels crowded and busy. Overseed in the fairways were significantly overgrown. I imagine this course is in better shape once the Bermuda grows through, but 1 - 1.5" grass in the fairways is pretty weak. Houses are in play on the first few holes and on the back 9, so hit it straight.
The carts are tricked out with latest and greatest GPS, which was nice. My group showed up late, and the staff was super accommodating, and drove a buddy out to the second hole to catch up with us.
Good experience, just wish the fairways were in better shape.
The course is in great shape. First time playing it. I really enjoyed it. I will play again soon and recommend it to my friends.
I really enjoyed playing this course. I would like to play it again soon. I will recommend to my friends.
