Iron Horse Golf Course
About
Iron Horse Golf Course is laid out in the floodplain of Fossil Creek, an area loaded with woods and a railroad that divides the property into three tracts. When Dick Phelps designed the golf course he loaded it with par 4s that are over 400 yards. This track has only two par 5s, but you'll get your money's worth as they are virtually impossible to reach in two. Iron Horse's best hole is the 462-yard, par-4 third hole, which is generally a bogey hole for the average golfer.

Lots of ground under repair on every fairway. This was one of the better ones. Photo submitted by Ken9948006 on 03/27/2023

Old school feel. Strategic tee shots required.
A fair and somewhat challenging layout. Not constantly playing between houses like most newer courses. Played fairly short off the whites. The blue tees would have been the better choice. Be prepared to chip from rough around the greens if you miss your approach. Don't need the driver much unless you want to cut the corners off the tee.
Decent features, well manicured fairways. Typical slower greens like public texas courses.
It's a pretty decent course, greens were well taken care of just slower than your top dollar tracks. Sand traps weren't extremely soft, but hittable from the short side. Exactly what you'd expect from a decent texas course. Easy for a mid -low handicapper.
A little short. Driver stays in the bag too much.
Not quite up to the reputation I was expecting. A little over priced. Busy though. There are way too many courses that have a better deal and are better courses.
This course has great challenging holes
Course was in great shape, the price was even better, enjoyed all the challenging holes
Great course.
Great looking golf course. The course is a little short, even from tips, but they do a good job of making u work the ball.
bad
The staff I encountered were either new or unable to perform their job. I was charged wrong amount and then missed tee time. Staffin restaurant was very uppity and slow 20 minutes for a hotdog ridiculous. also course needs signs to direct you to next tee box. not worth the money and hassle.
some real tough holes out there
greens were in good shape considering the heat we have had. Sand traps or should I say dirt traps, a bit of maintenance in this area is needed badly
ALWAYS FUN
SHOULD START SOME GOLFERS ON THE BACK NINE. THEY LET FIVESOMES PLAY LETTING THE COURSE GET BACK UP. WE PLAYED THE FIRST SEVEN HOLES THEN MOVED TO THE BACK WHICH NO ONE WAS EVEN PLAYING.
One of my favorites
This is a local course for me, but it is also a very well maintained course. I enjoy being able to go down the road and play a nice course without breaking the bank to play. Being a 20 hdcp, this course is plenty challenging for me. Highly recommended.
Good course for the price.
Iron horse is a true test of accuracy, not a freindly course for the first time visitor at any level or a begginer even if they live there. Fairways are in great condition, but keep an eye on your approach shot. The third cut around the greens can teleport your ball in the Bermuda Triangle.
Hit'em straight or prepare to swim
Enjoyable experience with a fast pace of play. We would have been faster if I could have controlled my straightness better.
Two things would have made this better:
1. Improve signage. If I hadn't been playing with people who are experienced on this course, I would have gotten lost twice.
2. Include range balls with greens fees. At $70 for a Saturday round, shelling $9 for a small bucket was irritating. Just charge $80 and be on par with other upper-medium tier golf courses.
Not a good experience on the course
The course needs a lot of attention. Many fairways are in horrible shape, and the greens have patches that need some attention. The pace of play was horrible. I actually had to call the clubhouse because there was a 5-some ahead of us playing very slow. It turned out, it was not just any group, it was actually the GM of the course and the golf-pro. One would think they would have the common sense to either allow people to play through or speed up the pace of play. I will not be playing Iron Horse again.
Very challenging, but lots of fun
Always find a good deal for this course on Golf Now. Fun course to play and always have a friendly staff on hand. I play by myself most of the time. Each time I've been put with a group of two or three and have always had a great time with who ever I play with
Overall
I'll play this course regularly , it's in great condition, the Marshall kept the pace good . The course is a great course I recommend it very high. Greens in great shape .....Loved the ice water on certain holes .......Thanks we had fun.....Sid
Iron Horse is a fun course. A good value. Recommend playing from the Green or Black (back ) tees
Holes 2 and 3 are very challenging and the last stretch of holes 15, 16 and 17 are too. Play from the back tees or the green tees and you will be tested and use all the clubs in your bag.
Course is in good shape, practice area is marginal, staff is excellent and all in all this is a course I would recommend....particularly if you can find it for $35 or less
love the touch screen gps.
Favorite local course with friendly staff. Course is well maintained and the mashalls are doing there job of keeping the pace. Always gotta love their gps dead accurate and will help you alot.
Course has matured into an excellent track
We played on a Thursday afternoon. The maintenance staff has done a great job maintaining & making improvements to the course over the years. The greens were as good as they have ever been during the Spring. Even with the Summer heat & the golf traffic on the course, Iron Horse is in very good shape. The quality, I enjoy about Iron Horse, is if you play with good course management, you will use almost every club in your bag. You must save the "grip it & rip it" for a scramble. I like the addition of the collection area to the left of #8 green. In the past, balls that landed on the left edge of that green would find the water. The entire Iron Horse staff is great & they do a super job.
Decent course, good value
Enjoyable round, good value. Iron Horse has a lot of character.
Great course for the money
Played with a foursome in the middle of the afternoon. Played at a normal pace on the front but flew through the back 9 in less than 2 hours. Really fun holes in the middle of the round. I will definitely be back, especially for the price.
Grreat course, great price
Summer is here and fairways are firming up. Long drives.
