Iron Horse Golf Course
About
Iron Horse Golf Course is laid out in the floodplain of Fossil Creek, an area loaded with woods and a railroad that divides the property into three tracts. When Dick Phelps designed the golf course he loaded it with par 4s that are over 400 yards. This track has only two par 5s, but you'll get your money's worth as they are virtually impossible to reach in two. Iron Horse's best hole is the 462-yard, par-4 third hole, which is generally a bogey hole for the average golfer.

Lots of ground under repair on every fairway. This was one of the better ones. Photo submitted by Ken9948006 on 03/27/2023

Great Course
Great course. Really enjoyed the entire game. I would definitely play again.
Had to step up my game, Club selection is critical.
With a 2:30pm tee time we were able to get in 10 enjoyable yet challenging holes. Wind conditions made the round challenging requiring careful club selection and patience with the shot. The greens were in great condition and a challenge to read. The overall course condition was excellent and the staff was friendly. The twosome we played with were friendly and helpful. I would reccomend this course to all my friends and will return to improve my score.
Great if you get a deal
The course and greens are fairly well maintained in spite of the ongoing highway construction. Some tight fairways, strategic water hazards, occasional bunkers and long grass around the greens keep the challenge up. I enjoyed playing here and will do so again if I can get a deal on fees, I think I would pass at the regular price.
Tight course with fast greens
Pin placement can be tough when greens are fast. Great condition of course in general. New GPS feature is fun to use and very accurate.
Best GPS around DFW area
Friendly staff, nice carts, great overall course. And if you enjoy a nice cold beer with your round, then Tuesday is the day to play as they run specials that day.
Good But.......
This course was okay but the cart girl made it better with her friendly attitude and she was fun to talk too. Also the marshall lit a fire under some slow pokes butts so a+ for him. The course itself was damp eventhough it hadn't rained, like someone left the sprinklers on overnight. Puddles in the middle of the fairway, huh? Holes 12 thru 17 on the other side of the highway are the nicest holes on the course, the front side is very tight and requires alot of target golf. Alot of highway construction around the course so makes it difficult to get too so leave early.
Not What I Expected
I have always wanted to play Iron Horse, but after playing it I can take it or leave it. The GPS on the cart is awesome with touch screen yardage features. That's the best thing I liked about the course. The pace was painfully slow on a Friday afternoon. I was only able to play 13 holes in almost 4 hours and couldn't finish the round. It took almost 10 minutes to figure out how to get to hole number 2 after looking at the GPS on the cart screen and missing the narrow cart part between 2 houses that seemed like I was driving into someone's back yard. The course is designed for irons for the most part due to the layout. There were other holes that were very confusing on which holes were which. The construction to even get to the course was discouraging also. Holes 12 thru 17 can only be accessed thru a gravel construction zone but are nice once you finally get there. Hole 18 is almost a mile from hole 17 once you come back from the opposite side of the highway. The concept and appearance of the course is nice, but I prefer other courses to this one.
Shotmakers' delight
This is not a course for folks who like to bomb drives in the general direction of the pin and then hope to hack out of trouble near the flag.
With nary a straight, open hole to be found, this course demands patience to score -- but you can score. It's a short track, with many holes than bend left or right (mostly right, which was tough for me since I hit a natural draw) that effectively take the driver out of your hands (or make you wish you had). You need to be able to hit your irons here, but if you can, the greens are well-kept and pretty easy to navigate. The course was in very good condition when I played it, but the construction going on on the freeway next to the course was a little distracting. Still, the construction also probably keeps enough people away so that the pace of play is a little faster than most, which was appreciated. Staff was friendly and helpful.
The greens held the ball. Fairways were good.
Nice Carts with GPS. Fairways and greens are in good shape.
Nice layout
Tee boxes and Fairways need some attention. Greens in good shape, but starting to show wear.
Very Happy With Iron Horse. Will Play Again and Again
course is in great condition and staff is very friendly
Pleasantly Surprised
Although the course was pretty damp when we played, greens and fairways were in great shape. What will bring me back is the staff. From start to finish, they all made our group feel welcome and at home. When the group in front of us was playing slow, they moved us ahead quickly and made sure we were happy afterwards. I will be playing here again and again.
Good price, better course
Course is in very good condition.Driving range is pricey. A golf club trying to be a Country Club. Marshalls could be more help offering distances on par 3s, carrying cold water, not just ballhawking in the woods. Should have bag drop boys that clean clubs when done and pickup carts. Would like to see better yardage marking on course.
Great staff, good location in the Ft. Worth area, well maintained
Nice course with some challenging holes. Great lay-out.
Better days are ahead
I like playing this course. I look forward to playing the course when all the road and on course bathroom construction are finished.
The course is in good condition.
I was surprised that the greens were in such good condition. The course was a pleasant surprise.
Iron Horse = Irons off most tees
The course is in pretty good shape considering it's been pretty dry and there is a TON of road construction going on nearby. It had been awhile since I last played this track -- and I remember why... It's a good spot-to-spot golf course, but not much in the way of a driver off the tee track. If you can hit it 180-220 with an iron, you'll enjoy this course...but if you are looking for a course where you can drive the ball off most tees, go somewhere else.
With other courses nearby offering better layouts for the same (or less), I'll skip this course. That said, it's not a bad course and definitely makes good use of the area it is on...just wish it was longer.
I had fun playing the course
It had been a long while since I had played Iron Horse, and the last time I played it, it was not in very good shape. This time was a much different story: The course was in very good condition even with the construction going on along 820.
Iron horse what a course
I love this course close to house always in great condition . Greens where great even after the ice and snow and couldn't beat the deal I got on golf now only 10bucks. Very friendly staff play time was 3 hours 30 minutes. Great day of golf.thank you!
