Iron Horse Golf Course
About
Iron Horse Golf Course is laid out in the floodplain of Fossil Creek, an area loaded with woods and a railroad that divides the property into three tracts. When Dick Phelps designed the golf course he loaded it with par 4s that are over 400 yards. This track has only two par 5s, but you'll get your money's worth as they are virtually impossible to reach in two. Iron Horse's best hole is the 462-yard, par-4 third hole, which is generally a bogey hole for the average golfer.

Lots of ground under repair on every fairway. This was one of the better ones. Photo submitted by Ken9948006 on 03/27/2023

OK for March
Overall course is in good shape. Sand Traps need atention. Need to place flags in a little less challenhing location as some of the locations were unfair.
NOT LONG, BUT DO NOT PULL THE DRIVER OUT ON EVERY HOLE
GREAT SUNDAY, NEED TO LEARN THE COURSE, TRICKEY HOLES WILL BE BACK
The course condition is always above average due to overseeding of important areas.
IronHorse is recommended to anyone looking for a challenging course that doesn't demand tremendous length to be able to score well. Bring your "A" with your irons out here!
This course is in fantastic condition
Iron horse has by far the best greens I have played on in a long time. The greens were full, very fast and rolled true. If you we're in the fairway, you had a good lie.the prices were excellent. Fantastic condition.i will be back soon.
Excellent value
This is a good shot maker's course. To score well here
you must shape your shot. Greens are receptive to shots,
yet will penalize you if you miss badly. Bring your short
game. Greens were excellent....rolled well. There are some
holes that scream "birdie", and there are some where you
feel great making par.......which is the sign of a good course.
The fairways are nice and green
Greens are fast but its been dry of late. The construction on 820 is a bummer.
Good Layout
Although the course is good, I did not like the pace of play as the field was packed and lots of wait time.
VERY CHALLENGING COURSE WITH LOTS OF CREEK CROSSINGS
VERY CHALLENGING COURSE WITH LOTS OF CREEK CROSSINGS. REALLY HAVE TO CALCULATE WHERE NEXT SHOT NEEDS TO LAND. CONSTRUCTION IN AREA A DETERANT BUT GETTING CLOSER TO FINISHING HIGHWAY.
Nice enough course, but....
Several of the greens have severe slope and were mowed short enough that a missed putt from below the hole would fall down hill several feet; that is just silly, and not playable.
Great course and staff - Tasty Burger
This was my first time playing this course. It was a warm, sunny Monday afternoon in early March so the course was pretty busy. Course was in great shape especially still being in winter. Staff was very friendly. The "Inferno Burger" I ate before starting the round was awesome.
The only slight issue we had was pace of play. We got stuck behind a couple of slow groups. The field marshal did try to speed things up and apologized for the slow pace, but it was expected.
This course is average but does have some challenges.
The polices of this course is not for any person physically handicapped. The course does not recognize a handicap flag. The carts are rigged to shut down if one gets too close to the green or get too far off the fairway. If you have difficulty walking very far or traversing elevated greens or tee boxes, I do not recommend this course.
Condition of the course needs improvement (tee boxes, fairways, and greens are all hard-pan).
Time
THe course needs to police the pace of play better as we didn't get to finish due to it being so slow. The group in front of us had a child with them who was out and playing around, and it slowed them down a lot. Other than that, we love this course but will not play after 2pm again.
Get to know a local
Played Iron Horse for the first time on Saturday. A little crowded for my taste but it was a weekend. Course isn't very long but it can be tricky. Greens were quick and true. Definitely helps to have some friendly advice from someone who has played it before and knows where to land tee shots and greens. Some of the course was under construction so I'm sure when spring rolls around it will be even better. Staff is awesome all around. Will be back.
The best in DFW
Best course, Best green. The is the best green i've ever seen during summer and winter.
Course + Price = must play!
Played on a cold Friday (so course wasn't too busy) for about 23 bucks on golfnow. Course is a great deal for that price. Greens are good and fast. Fairways are above average. Bunkers are well maintained. Its not a bombers course, holes are fairly tight, but i think its a MUST play for the rate!
This course has great features
I really enjoy this course because of it's length and overall features. Iron Horse is challenging and yet not overly difficult for the novice player.
Great Course and Great Staff
I played on a cool Monday afternoon, so it was not crowded at all. Considering it was February, the fairways were in great shape and the greens were very well maintained. This course takes some local knowledge because on several holes, you can hit a drive through a dogleg or straight into trouble with a driver. In addition, the course is narrow enough where you can't just grip it and rip it; you have to play a good game of golf to score well. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It was a very enjoyable round.
Good tight course.
Course is well maintained and provides a good challenge with some tight fairways and challenging greens
excellent course
This is a great course. Very well maintained, the best fairways and greens we have seen in Fort Worth area over the winter... imagine it is stunning in the spring and summer months. great value.
Fun layout, some challenges!
I enjoy playing Iron Horse....the main draw back is the pace of play. On a nice day, it can be very slow. The course is in nice shape, the fairways are a little thin now, but it is winter. There isn't a ton of slope to the greens and they are fairly grainy, but they are rolling well for Bermuda and in very good shape. The course offers some fun challenges as well as a couple of reachable par 5's.
