About
Iron Horse Golf Course is laid out in the floodplain of Fossil Creek, an area loaded with woods and a railroad that divides the property into three tracts. When Dick Phelps designed the golf course he loaded it with par 4s that are over 400 yards. This track has only two par 5s, but you'll get your money's worth as they are virtually impossible to reach in two. Iron Horse's best hole is the 462-yard, par-4 third hole, which is generally a bogey hole for the average golfer.

That dirt is stretching all through the fairways. Trust me. It was “made to be like that.” Almost ever other fairway had this or gravel. Photo submitted by u000007236592 on 08/02/2026

Lots of ground under repair on every fairway. This was one of the better ones. Photo submitted by Ken9948006 on 03/27/2023

Golfer Reviews
Staff was amazing.
It was a warm day. Course condition has some patchy spots. Definite weather damage. However, the course was fun to play. Staff amazing. Even though our electric cart died on 18. They sent someone out with a new cart and moved everything over for us. Thank you.
Fairways horrible
The tee boxes are fine, the greens were good, but slow; however, the majority of fairways were dirt in places. It looked like they had runoff from rain. Not sure why, but definitely dirt on fairways.
Great first experience
Loved it! Was my first time on the course even though I’ve passed it my whole life.. will be back
Yeesh
Great layout, dirt patches on lots of fairways, overgrown greens with apparent weeds… grow some grass, cut the greens and this course would be worth the price
Seems like it is under repair
We have played the course multiple times since it was renovated. Multiple holes appears to be washed out We paid $70 for Saturday tee time. The course may be worth $55 in its current shape.
Nice course
The course is somewhat short (I played the blue tees as I'm 64 years old). Overall I was pleased with the course. There were a few fairways that weren't in great shape but overall it was good. The greens are a little slow compared to most courses but they were consistent throughout.
Good public course
Staff was friendly. Greens in good shape. Fairways need work. Pace was avg for a busy public course.
Great course
Haven’t played Iron Horse in a while . I was impressed with the condition of the course considering the time of the year, but we are in Texas. Greens was in great condition. Shot the 2nd best game I’ve played.
Good overall. Fairways need work.
Good overall experience. The clubhouse was clean and well kept and the workers in the pro shop were friendly. The driving range was well-maintained and seeded which is awesome to see. I'm not the biggest fan of layouts that don't have an "out" and "in" but what can you do? The tee boxes and greens were well kept. This time of year the fairways are dormant which is normal but many of the fairways had bare spots and hardpan, quite a few actually. Really the only "bad" thing about the course. Nothing that can't be fixed with care.
