About
Iron Horse Golf Course is laid out in the floodplain of Fossil Creek, an area loaded with woods and a railroad that divides the property into three tracts. When Dick Phelps designed the golf course he loaded it with par 4s that are over 400 yards. This track has only two par 5s, but you'll get your money's worth as they are virtually impossible to reach in two. Iron Horse's best hole is the 462-yard, par-4 third hole, which is generally a bogey hole for the average golfer.

That dirt is stretching all through the fairways. Trust me. It was “made to be like that.” Almost ever other fairway had this or gravel. Photo submitted by u000007236592 on 08/02/2026

Lots of ground under repair on every fairway. This was one of the better ones. Photo submitted by Ken9948006 on 03/27/2023

Golfer Reviews
Starter is just too much
The course is fine. There are a lot of holes that have torn up fairways. Pace of play was good for a weekend. The starter at this course is an issue that will probably keep us from coming back. He would not let us start at our designated tee time even though the first hole was wide open because someone else was late for their tee time? We waited 10 minutes for this other group to show up and tee off ahead of us and then teed off 15 minutes late. He also insists on searching everyone's cart for alcohol including looking through your personal belongings. This is the 2nd time we have had issues with the same guy. There are a lot of other good options for golf in the area without the hassle.
Cut your grass please!
Recommendation of No is harsh but the way the rough is I can't recommend with good faith right now.
I have played there twice in the past month (don't normally play here but it had last minute availability) and both times the rough and areas around the green were crazy thick. I lost so many balls even when I was 5 yards or less out from the fairway and around the greens. You literally had to step on it or be looking straight down at it on order to find them.
Maybe they wanted to mimic the recent US Open that just played, but we are not professionals here and do not have a dozen ball spotters working in our favor. It was not enjoyable.
I was literally a couple feet off the green and it took me several minutes to find it. This slows down play. Please cut your grass. Thank you.
Yikes. Not in good shape.
The front 9 fairways were pretty nice, and the greens were decent albeit very slow due to early morning condensation and sprinklers. They sped up throughout the day. The back 9 fairways look like a war zone and several were cart path only because of this. They are trying to fix it with heavy watering, but that caused the playing conditions to be muddy and mushy in a lot of spots. They should not charge full price while the fairways look like this, and while they are saturating the course. Would not recommend.
Hit, Miss, Miss
The greens were soft and well cut, very slow and not hard like other courses in the Texas summer. Carts could definitely use an upgrade. Fairways were very bad. Most of them had dirt patches full of rocks. One fairway was being sanded so it felt like hitting out of the bunker even after a good tee shot. You get whiffs of sewer during play. We saw the cart girl on 3 and then not again until 17. I also got hit in the face with a ball while I was waiting for the Marshall to replace our playing partners cart after their tire blew. No one yelled fore, never apologized. They shattered my glasses and didn’t blind me, thank God. Goes to show the respect level of the players out on this course. Tough day.
We love Ironhorse!
We love this course! We are about 2 hours away for travel but when we are in the Dallas area we are sure to bring our clubs and play here! ❤️
Waste of money
Want to charge me 95.00 that 9 holes are really not playable fairways were like gravel pits with a little grass and a little dirt, but most of all bear rock.
Average
Greens were in good shape, fairways were not. Pace of play was pretty good for a Sunday. Starter was over the top. Staff in the clubhouse was very friendly. I like this course but the fairways need some work.
Swamp Land
Firstly it would have been nice to know it was just aerated and only front nine was open, no amenities on the course and no one working behind the bar to even get a drink.
Good Course - challenging layout
I really enjoyed the out of the course, the staff were great. The sausage at the turn with drinks was phenomenal. I highly recommend playing golf here
