The Nicklaus Design Course at Vidanta Puerto Penasco
About
Jack Nicklaus and his son teamed up to design the course at The Nicklaus Design Course at Vidanta Puerto Penasco (formerly known as Peninsula De Cortes Golf Club and Peninsula Golf Club at Vidanta Puerto Penasco). Half of the layout plays along the Sea of Cortes while the other half wanders inland through native wetlands and desert vegetation. Long hitters will enjoy this golf course, which stretches to more than 7,000 yards. The Nicklaus team designed a challenging layout but the rugged terrain also deserves credit. They utilized not only the natural hazards but also the stunning views, which are as varied as the challenges. Every hole is framed by a backdrop of the desert, mountains, or sea. The signature hole is the par-3 sixth. On this tough hole you'll be met with a series of waterways that sits between the tees and the green complex, where four bunkers are also lurking.

Golf Cars
The golf carts are very old and should be up graded or replaced. Parking break didn't work half the time twice now. They should also have windshields due to the wind and cold Jan and Feb.
Ridiculous
We had a 12:30 tee time. At 4:45 pm, when we were on the 18th fairway, a guy comes out in a cart and tells us we need to leave because they were closing. We asked if we could finish the last hole of our round and he said no! Made us pick up our ball and he followed us out! It wasn’t like it was getting dark. Absurd. The carts are in very poor condition as well. I’m done with this course.
Incredible
This course was by far the best course if traveling to Puerto Penasco area. Incredible views along the course of the ocean.
Course is in terrible condition
Tee boxes and fairways are terrible
Greens could also use some work though better
Needs water and fertilizer badly
Beautiful course
This is an amazing course, the downside is that the score card has no pictures of the holes, nor are there any at the tee boxes. Basically we were playing blind. The clubhouse was closed so we had to check in at Mayan Palace. It's a shame because the clubhouse looks really nice. There was no cart person driving around the course but the toilet facilities are top notch. Overall it's a great place, just a few minor improvements needed.
Fantastic Course in PP
Was the only golfer on the course at 10am due to fairly high winds which lasted the entire round, about 20 mph gusts. The staff at the course was very friendly. Had to check in inside the Mayan Hotel lobby then drive to the course a short distance away. Booked round on golfnow which saved $25+.
Course was in fantastic shape and had 5 holes along ocean, A++. Will return on my next trip to PP.
Golfers may want to avoid playing if winds are over 20 mph as its hard to reach the par 4's and balls will drift OB. I normally play from white tees but with wind played from lady tees which was a much better option. I am 14 HDCP and shot 88 with the serious wind. Still had a great time. Course is about 45 min out of Sandy Beach hotel zone but worth the drive.
Course was in great shape with very few players. However, the golf cart was Terrible. The steering was very loose, making it dangerous to operate. This facility needs new carts.
vidanta
well maintained and greens are beautiful. great ocean views. we will be back
Great course in Mexico and the cheapest course in the world
$73 bucks for a perfect course right on the ocean is un heard off. I've been golfing this course for 20 years, doesn't get much play, being its a little out of the way, but worth the drive.
Disappointed
I have played this course 10-15 times. We had a tee time at 12:30 but didn’t get out til 1:20. There were not enough golf carts. We waited for morning groups to come in for their carts. There was a small grill that only served burritos. The workers were awesome, but a delay cause of carts and slow played made us cancel our dinner.
Because we are in Mexico, that saw it as no issued just wait 1 hour and play slow.
This course isn't worth the price
The golf carts are nearly broken down and the fairways/bunkers are semi maintained. However the greens were in perfect shape. For the price, the value isn't there, much better value at 2 other local courses.
This is a great golf course. Definitely one of our favorites. The course is in fantastic shape right now. The staff is the friendliest around. Genuinely happy to see you and help you. This is definitely a typical challenging Nicklaus course, but well thought out holes that keep your attention for every shot. Highly recommend.
Sence of humor
Good ol Jack got a sence of humor with this one. Sand traps everywhere but soft and well kept.
Tight fairways with thick brush on edges. Off fairway equals lost ball. Very challenging. On short breeze usually always 10-20 mph. Tricky tricky but alot of fun amd a super challenge for a 9 handicap golfer with a ever returning slice every other round. My son shot a 85 and hes a much better golfer. I shot a 98.
