Golfer Reviews
Cocks moor wood gc
Don’t play this course, the greens are an absolute disgrace, not only are they very long and don’t look they’ve been cut in a week, but it looks as if kids have rode motorbikes all over them. The fairways are ok, the tees are shocking and the rough is a joke, the long grass has been cut and just left.
Luckily the course was really empty, as we were looking for golf balls for such a long time.
We had had enough after 10 holes and walked off, luckily the pro shop was closed, I would have gone in and complained, as we wasn’t made aware of the course beforehand
Can’t moan for the money!
As titled value for money, but the motorbike tracks around the greens and fairways impact the play. Not a lot the staff can actually do about that apart from try repairing it as they are.. signage from hole to hole could be improved, greens wasn’t very short and slow and some fairway were like the rough but for 18 holes for £12.5 can you really moan….i will be going back :-)
Awful course
The shocking state of repair of this course is appalling and could be so easily improved by employing green keepers who do their job properly.
There is no excuse that this course has been left to reach this sorry state. Greens resemble the fairway, bunkers full of weeds and compacted sand/mud, uncut grass on so much of the fairway leading to huge numbers of lost balls.
The cost should be halved to represent the fact this is now a very basic practice course.
Birmingham City Council hang your head in shame
I started playing golf 30 years ago learning the ins and outs of the game on the many local municipal golf courses of Birmingham, and back then these 5 or 6 golf courses were kept really well, tidy and manicured. I hadn't played Cocksmoors Woods for many years so we thought we would revisit our youth and go back and play this course as more accomplished players, as the title of this review states the city Council have let this grand old lady become tired, while the fairways were acceptable (just) the greens were in a terrible state, parts of each and every green were uncut making us hit our putters like a 5 iron, some local yobs had ridden motorcycles over 3 of the greens and the bunkers are in massive states of disrepair, weeds and stones making them almost unrecognisable, Shame on you Birmingham Council you have let this course go to rack and ruin, good points were the gentleman in the golf shop was polite and welcoming, and it only cost £12.50, but alas I will not be returning because it's clear to see that this old lady is near death and no with no golfing NHS to help her I fear the worst
Potential but needs serious tlc
Layout is good with some interesting holes and good views.
The greens were awful, long grass, very patchy super slow, bunkers were full of weeds and the rough just off the fairways so long and lush that it was impossible to play from and very hard to find.
Staff in preshop very friendly and helpfull
Shame there is no clubhouse or bar
Could be good, poorly maintained
Poorly maintained, rough eats your balls, greens where awful and fairways not much better
Good for the money
Played this course a few times, but not for a long time, played again 01/08/24. The layout was good fair ways was great condition. The only thing to let this course down is the greens lots of damage which impedes a true roll of the ball. But for £12.50 I would recommend.
Nice course Great deal
I took my 12 year old Grandson for his 1st 18. Had trouble figuring out a couple of the tee locations. But overall had a Great game. Would recommend
Worst course ever
In very poor condition, rough on both sides of fare way extremely long,,never seen greens in such poor condition,,allowing teenagers destroying the greens with motor bikes and no one does a thing about it,,how do you expect people to pay on a course that is not fit for purpose,,soul destroying,,
Played in a forest
Played this course a several times and then stopped playing here due to the condition of the course as the fairways are none existent due to the growth of the grass.. I thought that they may have improved the course by now having not played here for 2 years. Was I wrong to think that. Sadly I feel it’s worse now than before the course was in total disrepair the greens were as long as fairways, the fairways as deep as rough ( I lost 4 balls off the tees that went straight down the middle), and the tees were indistinguishable from the rest of the course. Everyone complaining about the state of the course that we’re playing at the time.
It’s funny we saw a chap walking around picking up the balls lost and how his two bags were very full.
Something needs to be done about this as it’s a lovely course for it to be kept in the state it is only tells me that people working there no longer care about the state of the course.
What a shame
I remember this course from my younger days and always rated it as a superb course for a municipal
The holes are varied and challenging and the conditions were always excellent
I booked a last minute round on my own as I haven’t been playing well recently and thought I could try some things out
Sadly the course was in total disrepair the greens were as long as fairways, the fairways as deep as rough ( I lost 4 balls off the tees that went straight down the middle), and the tees were indistinguishable from the rest of the course
I was the only one playing and I can see why!
Very poor
To start. Paid for full 18. No notification that the front 9 was closed and would have to play the back 9 twice. I could have understood that but the entire course should have been closed. I lost 8 balls in the fairway. It was that soggy. The green weren't really greens just slightly shorter cut. I played here a few years back, it wasn't a prime course but was exceptional value for money. Now it isn't worth the money. Ended up only playing 7 holes and had enough. I know this time of year can be difficult with the rain we have had but this was rediculas. I wouldn't even recommend this course to complete beginners. It's just a field with flags in it.
£1 per hole! What more could you ask for???
I played here a few times over the last 15 years,
For £18 each (3 ball) you couldn't ask for more. It had been wet over night and the course although wet was holding up well. Each hole has something different to challenge you. Not your typical driver off anything thats not a par 3.
Yes it could be better, the fairways could be cut shorter, Tee's would benefit from a haircut too, noone wants to use the rakes provided and the booking system clashes with "My Time" app. But at the end of the day if you are looking for those things you don't play this type of course.
I would definitely play this course again.
Poor condition.
The course is in poor condition, the greens are awful, the ball bobbles along the green. The fairways are long too.
