Great course in wonderful condition
Although only 9 holes, the course offers a good challenge to golfers of all abilities.
The course is kept in excellent condition, with good parking and friendly and welcoming staff
Great course
I had a great experience playing at Harborne Church Farm Golf Course. The course itself is excellent, with some really long holes and slightly tight fairways that make you think carefully about every shot. The bunkers are well placed, adding a nice challenge without feeling unfair, and the scenery around the course is beautiful.
I teed off at around 12:30, and as a beginner I never felt rushed by other players, which made for a much more enjoyable and relaxed round. The layout is also very easy to follow, with the holes positioned close to one another, so navigating the course was straightforward.
The fairways were in fantastic condition and clearly very well maintained. The tee boxes could do with a bit more attention, but they didn't affect my round too much.
The green fee was also very affordable, and I thought it offered great value for the price. Overall, it's a welcoming course that's enjoyable for golfers of all abilities. I'd definitely recommend it, especially if you're a beginner looking for a relaxed, scenic, and well-maintained course without spending a fortune.
Challenging and tight little track
I really love Harborne Church Farm. It’s a muni and it’s cheap so reviews have to be in context. If you’re looking for fast stimping greens, beautiful first cut fairway fringes and great sand, you’ll be disappointed- it’s none of those things. What it is is a beautiful short and tight parkland with lots of mature trees and well guarded greens - many there’s no room at the back and plenty of guard to the front so it demands decent course management and accuracy. The rough is on the longer side, which, given how short the course is, brings its own challenges. Navigating the course for the first time can be a bit tricky - I ended up joining up with a guy who got a bit lost off the back of the 1st so worth familiarizing yourself with the layout before teeing off. Again no drama or complaint - just a tip for a first time visitor.
The really good bits: extremely good value, mature, testing with lots of tight lines and trees… it’s short, but it’s absolutely not a pitch and putt and there’s plenty of opportunity to take a driver if you’re brave. Greens are small and often well guarded from both fairways and edges so it really does promote thoughtful risk and reward play - fantastic. Pro shop very welcoming and friendly, plenty of parking, practice net, practice green and changing facilities all available.
To note: The greens are slow - consistent but very slow. My home course is the opposite with fast playing greens - if you play regularly at a course with great greens, the transition is tough, but they’re in decent order with no bare spots and very few pitch marks etc being left.
The rough is rough - deep and easy to lose a ball if you don’t keep and eye out - it’s hard to play wedges from 40-50 out because the ball often sits low in the rough - I struggled with this and changed course strategy to avoid as much as possible on my 2nd 9 - fairway to green with a shorter tee shot and a longer approach is easier than shortening holes at times... again, I suppose it’s what you’re used to - a bit of fringe that doesn’t punish an OK layup would be preferable - off line - make it hard by all means.
9th is a blind tee shot - there is a bell, but nobody used it - need to keep your wits about you in that corner of the course with crossing fairways and a couple of blinds
The bad: relaxed tee times means it can get bunched up and pace of play slow as a result - I played 18 - first 9 I was round in about an hour - 2nd 9 was closer to 2 - better to go when it’s quiet if you’re solo or a 2 ball. The sand in the bunkers was really compacted so you couldn’t play a proper shot out of them - I actually ended up treating them as GUR and dropping behind them when there was nothing to play out of. As a practice round - no problem at all and it didn’t spoil anything, but I would have liked to play the sand, were there any to play.
Overall, for a quick 9 or a relaxed round during the day it’s smashing - plenty to think about, beautiful setting and lots of variation in the holes. For the money and convenience you can’t really go wrong.
Tired
Half decent course needs proper maintenance tees shocking
Rough to long fairways poor
No cafe
No pro
No shop
Everything advertised does not exist !!!
People just walking on for free very frustrating
Nice
I played 9 holes. Staff were very welcoming, good quality golf bags hired for very little. Cost was very low in total. They had issues with the grass length, fairways were a big long.
Testing 9 holes
Tricky 9 hole course, has got narrower over the years. Some testing pin & tee positions makes for a test of your abilities. Enjoy.
Fairway losses
Fairways were like the 5th cut of tough, how can you not find your ball when hitting the fairway? Greens were awful
Tidy little 9 hole, not easy though, hilly and plenty of trees😂
Overall a good challenging course for all abilities, pretty new to golf myself but really enjoyed this course 👌🏻would recommend
Great budget round
Harbourne Church Farm is an excellent budget course for a cheap mid week round.
For £9 for 9 holes it's better than going to the range and the course actually exceeded my expectations as the course is well maintained for the money.
Some parts of the grass are a bit long on the fairway here and there but if you want to be picky you need to go somewhere that charges more for a round! Well impressed👍
I will definitely be back! 🙂
Nice 9 hole course
Great 9 hole course, good condition, nice couple of par 3s and 4s. Brilliant value for money, round was £9 and it definitely outdid expectations. Great for beginners or experienced golfers.
Course good but holds the water and was a wet day, not the courses fault and will use again on a drier day
Winter Golf?
The course greens were well maintained, even though we are in the throes of winter, trying to find out ball under the leaves wasn’t easy.
We both had a good challenge from the course and the conditions.
