Best course I've played this year
Lightning fast undulating greens which are soft and huge, tight tee shots, lots of water, lots of sand in the bunkers, very pretty course similar standard to Northants County and better greens than Peterborough Milton which is saying something. Only problem is due to recent changes in layout none of the sat nav holes correlate.
Poorly kept course and not as advertised!
The course has changed and is no longer the length advertised. Very poor condition, no maps of each hole and a lot of blind holes. Hard if you don’t know where you are going. A lot of water which makes for and interesting course but the overall condition of divots everywhere, poor greens full of pitch marks and bunks like I have never seen before. Sand if you can call it that full of rocks, not raked and overall just a poor looking course! Won’t be back!
Nice course, can be a tough course to play, designed very well.
Had a nice day at Collingtree Park, greens were superb, fairways were ok considering the recent weather conditions, tees were ok, some good some a little sparce. For the cost would definitely visit again soon.
Love it and hate it
Don’t get me wrong I do love this course. So much variety in shots that it is never dull, however . . .there are two main issues with playing here. The first is one linked to its location. Interweaving between some very grand houses and being constantly reminded about liability if balls go out of bounds makes this a stressful round, especially when you see the opulence of some of the houses. The second is that the new building site next door and dry weather made much of the first nine a dust storm. The course was very parched as well and due to the slow grass growth not much mowing had occurred and so the weeds were clearly evident which made some of the fairways look very bog standard. Greens were immaculate and tee boxes were fine apart from the dust pit that is the 10th tee. Like I said I do love this course but the tee shot on 18 was enough for me to pick up and walk off. As a slicer there was no way I was risking an OB with cars just over a fence!
Enjoyable
First time playing at collingtree for a few years, was surprised to see the old club house and driving range is now a housing estate !
The course was playing firm and fast, the fairways were very baked out but the greens were still in excellent condition.
The bad points were a temporary tee on the 10th which was literally a patch of dirt in the rough under some trees ! There was a mat which would've been preferable but it wasn't in use for some reason ? I was also shocked by the new 17th hole, teeing off from an artificial grass tee box ? I would've expected something a lot better from a previous European tour venue. Bad points aside it was a very enjoyable day with friendly staff and very good greens. Will probably return but only on a 'hot deal' price.
A long course but a nice course
Had a great time at Collingtree on Saturday - good course and greens in decent condition
Excellent
staff friendly and helpful course was fantastic not too hard but still challenging
What a beautiful course
The pro was very helpful and friendly, so that’s always a good start, course was in excellent condition, never got held up and was well manicured all over, a pleasure to play it.
6 par 3’s
It a shame the course has 6 par 3’ due to some of the course being sold of for houses.
Great round
Nice course, welcoming staff, no hold ups, group behind returned my head cover that is dropped and enjoyed a nice pint watching a golfers chip into to an impressive 18th green. Definitely playing again!
It’s Lovely course - some may need to look past what’s going on around.
This is a lovely course, with some challenging holes.
The course was in good condition and the greens were fair and true.
My only real gripe is playing off mats on a couple of holes.
There is building going on near a couple of holes, but doesn’t really detract from the golf, and the road noise could annoy some, but just look at how lovely the course is.
The Hot-deal from Golf—Now was a bargain.
We’ll definitely come back to play again.
New layout not worth money
They have clearly sold off land to fit more houses in and bumped in an extra 2 par 3’s this would be OK but should be reflected in price. I’m happy to pay £30 a round for this course but does not warrant nearly £40 pp
Very Disappointing
Understood that the course was being redesigned whilst local house building going on but overall condition was very poor. only the aprons and greens cut. No fairway cutting, so impossible to distinguish fairway from semi-rough. Greens very average, even accepting the time of year.
Looking ahead
Was a great track, love the American style layout. Looks like lots of hard work has been carried out lately on drainage on the course so really looking forward to playing collingtree in the summer.
Amazing value and a beautiful course
Beautiful course with immaculate fairways and greens. Tight fairways and lots of water make it a challenging course, but very rewarding.
Friendly staff in the clubhouse and very reasonably priced. 100% recommend.
It’s a challenge⛳️
Absolutely fantastic course it gradually pulls you in and will test your driving skills, be prepared for a challenge “keep it straight or get wet”
On the Up!
This course has had its ups and downs over the years with the highs of The British Masters being held there in its heyday to the lows of the last few years with little investment and the course generally being neglected.
However, the course recently became a private members club and already the new team have set to work about the place with a revitalised enthusiasm and new investment and the change in the quality of the course is remarkable in such a short space of time. The members have come out en masse to dust the place down and give it a thorough pruning and boy it’s paid off.
There is a noticeable change in the mood and the feel good factor is evident and back once again.
The club is far from the finished article though, there are many changes happening, due to some land being developed for housing, including the shutting down of the driving range and the pro shop imminently moving over the road to where the 18th finishes, as opposed to where the 1st starts. That aside the course is returning back to its very best with a new head greenskeeper and staff looking after the place.
The layout has always been there, it’s widely acknowledged to be the best in the county, but the quality has been lacking through under investment for far too long. The members that have stood by the course through its ups and downs deserve something better and it looks like their prayers might have been answered.
The course itself is, for the most part, lined by some beautiful big houses overlooking it and this is definitely in the class of a ‘new design’ type course. It’s a fairly gentle start to get your eye in that lulls you into a false sense of security as you make your way down to the 4th thinking ‘I might do well today’ and then the course starts to bear its teeth and gives you a bit of a nosebleed until about the 14th!!!
The water (which comes into play on 10 holes!), narrowness and trees all start to work against you and if wayward off the tee, you can generally kiss goodbye to that par. But it will reward accuracy, just be prepared to drop a club or two on some holes where you think it’s begging for a driver to be pulled out the bag. It’s been designed cleverly that way to get you thinking on the tee box.
There are some fantastic holes, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 15 through to 18 are all great but the 18th is worth the entrance fee alone. Water for as far as the eye can see on the left, overlooked by some stunning houses, and OOB to the right so you have to be accurate off the tee. 200 yds off the tee will leave you a further 200 yds up the narrow-ish fairway just to get into position to go for the Sawgrass styled island green that can only be stepped onto via a bridge on the far side of it, and that’s still another 150 yds away!
The big boys that can rip a drive 300 yds are teased with the ‘should I, shouldn’t I’ scenario of having to rip a further 3 wood to go for that most rarest of things, and something to dine out on for the rest of your days ... an eagle on Collingtree’s 18th! There are probably more Dodo’s still in existence than have been eagles on the 18th!
It’s a superb closing hole and the friendly members overlook the final green from a patio terrace. So be brave and commit and they’ll let you know the quality of your final approach shot as you make your way past them to the bar!
All in all, a rough diamond trying really hard to make its way back up to where it should be and with a new team driving them and a new found vigour ... they just might do it.
Fingers crossed, it really is a great layout.
Brilliant, but he straight!
I’d been wanting to play this corse for some time and I took the opportunity to do it on a slightly overcast day. I arrived early but this wasn’t a problem as the course was quiet and the pro just said I could head off when I was ready. The course was quiet but I did catch up a two ball who let me play through immediately so I was pretty chuffed with the pace of play.
The course has a wonderful layout, it reminded me of playing in Portugal as the course winds it’s way through a vast array of stunning houses and has plenty of well established trees including some massive pines to align the route. Every hole was good by 4-13 was phenomenal run of testing well payed out holes. The only thing I would say is that the greens are a bit of a work in progress a couple of them are pretty shoddy, but they are consistent and that is something.
Based on this I’d say the course represents bey good value for money and the facilities look fantastic, but unfortunately I didn’t have time to stay to enjoy them.
If you’re in the area it’s certainly worth stopping at Collingtree, just make sure you hit the ball straight out you’ll be in a garden, the water or worse a window!
