If you want to play golf with peoples houses being a close enough for their residents to see whether your swing favours a draw or fade, then this the course for you. Whoever designed this place and the surrounding housing estate was mad as a hatter, or has a vested interested in garnering as many liability law suites as possible. Every hole has a warning about your liability should you damage someone's property or person, advising you to get insurance, because the house's literally jut into the course and are one of hazards of moat holes. The Marshall is also a little unfriendly and wary of visitors. Other than those two things, it is a brilliant course. Everything else is top notch. Friendly staff, very well maintained course, amazing greens, some of the best Ive ever had the pleasure to play on.
Suggestion
The price is great and Collingtree is probably my favourite course. I just had time fprns quick 18 holes but when I got there I was told I was 3 other golfers I didn't know. Normally thats not an issue but on this occasion I needed to get around quick as I had another commitment. Luckily I went off about 20mins by myself and zoomed around in under 3hrs which was perfect for me. It would be nice to know if you are with other golfers or if you can try ans get a tee time by yourself if possible. Other than that I love the system
Challenging course, but fun to play
I used to play this course with a friend 30+ years ago and this was my first re-visit. Apart from hole 7 which I instantly recognised, it felt like I'd never played this course before.
There are some very long (for me) holes of 500+ yards, but the fairways are quite wide and forgiving for an occasional and not particularly good golfer like me. The greens and tees were well-kept and the pro shop staff were welcoming and friendly.
I was playing in 30+ degree heat, so I had to give in and call it a day after hole 9 as I'd run out of much-needed water, and despite putting factor 50 on before heading out, I could feel the sun starting to burn. I would have liked to have finished the back 9 and I will do when the weather cools a bit and I play the course again.
Nevertheless, despite bailing out after the front nine, it was a really enjoyable refresher of this challenging course and I would recommend it to anyone.
Great Condition
You expect Collingtree to be in good order and it was. Very well manicured, pleasing on the eye. Fairways were excellent and the greens very true andreasonably quick. Certainly the best greens we have played on this year. Compared with other courses in the area £39 for a round early afternoon is superb value for money. The course layout has been a little bit compromised versus how it was but it still has 4 great par 5’s and the 18th is as it always has been a card wreaker. Staff in the pro-shop and in the bar very friendly and helpful. We will be back.
Great Course with a number of different holes
Great course with a variety of different holes you don’t get to play very often. Course and greens were in great condition, although I found the greens tricky to read. Would definitely recommend and play again.
Collingtree
Course was in good condition, play was a bit slow, took nearly 4.5 hours. There was no starter or marshal that could have helped.
Well worth a visit
I would definitely recommend this course. The greens are 5*
The overall layout of the course is pretty. There is some road noise at certain points on the course but nothing too heavy. Lots of trees that make for a good variety in the holes. Water dotted around the course which definitely adds to its character. The 18th is a great way to finish a round.
I would have given the course a 5* rating had there not been a few things that let it down. A few of the fairways were threadbare. A few of the bunkers whilst well raked didn’t have a lot of sand in them. Most though were okay.
The strangest thing though was that on two of the holes you have to tee off on an artificial raised platform. Very strange! Not so bad on the first one as it’s a par four so you would tee up anyway. The second platform is for a short par three. About 120 yards. I like to tee off on the deck on this length of hole as less consistent using a tee peg with my irons. I am sure there is a reason but if a course is to be taken seriously then they really need to rectify this as this lets the course down.
Staff are excellent as is the clubhouse. Great to sit and see the golfers coming down the 18th and dealing with the island green.
Great course in great condition
Would recommend to anyone. Great condition considering the time of year, really nice course.
Holding up well in the winter...
Holding up well in the winter, despite the heavy rainfall. Greens were tight and fairly true and we played off all standard tee boxes bar 2 winter mats and the new par 3 box on the 17th.
Warm welcome in the pro shop and fabulous service in the bar when it came to food and drinks. Hope to be back soon.
Nice Course
The course was in excellent condition for this time of year.
Nice course but a few holes are from what looks like a semi permanent mat at the moment, where I think they are working on the real tee blocks. Hole 10 is a strange hole but apart from that there is a fairly good variety of holes and the course is kept in very good condition.
