About
Falconhead Golf Club sits just west of Austin in the midst of the scenic Hill Country, tumbling across a rolling landscape covered with knobby cedars and towering oaks. The challenging layout was designed to PGA standards, making it one of the most popular public golf courses in the area. The greens are fast and each is protected by at least one bunker. The golf course offers an interesting variety of holes that will require the use of every club in your bag. On windy days, the lengthy par 4s are especially tricky. Golfers will be faced with a variety of challenges on this course including dramatic uphill approaches, forced carries, blind shots, and doglegs. There are also meandering creeks that crisscross the course and a number of ponds that come into play. Falconhead Golf Club's signature hole is the beautiful par-3 17th, which will require your most accurate iron.

Many reasons to stay away
1. Tee times are every 5 minutes - Pace of play is unbearably slow.
2. No Covid Protocols - Starter had a bandana (not a mask) around his neck greeting everyone who came to the course. Then he tried to have me get in cart with another single. When I said I wasn't comfortable with that, I was quoted about 'the Governor said....' In the shop I was told I could pay to have a single in a cart....another $65 (2 rounds of golf). Got my money back.
3. Staff - Rude to the point of questioning if they actually want people to golf there.
Thoroughly disappointed and I won't be going back.
Nice, sanded greens
They did not tell us the greens were sanded. Should have been discounted or told ahead of time

Never playing here again
Greens are slower than a trash muni course. 6 hours minimum to finish a round. Places sucks.

Great day
Course was in great shape, the best shape I’ve seen of any public course since the freeze! Fairways great. No dirt or mud on the greens. They rolled nice, but were slower than normal. But at least it was a green! People complain about slow play? Make an earlier tee time. This not a beginners course. It plays long and the greens are difficult. We played in less than 3 1/2 hours. Staff was great.
I would play here all the time but it’s pricey, but worth it.
***The range/practice facilities are not open from Tues 4pm until Wed 10am for weekly maintenance. I like to hit a bucket and putt but couldn’t as I had an early AM Wednesday tee time. A little disappointed because it doesn’t say on Golfnow, but it does say on their website. Will be back!

Slow as
Shouldn’t book so many tee times if can’t manage time of play. On hole 5 and hour forty five in to it .

Excellent course with plenty of challenges in great condition. Careful with how you read the greens on this course as some proved to be an optical illusion. The ball would roll in ways that seemed to defy gravity!

Great course, painfully long round, cart fee issue
I was told that I had to share a cart, or pay a $20 fee on top of the cost of my 18 (which includes a half-cart) - this not reasonable. Course was in great shape, except the sand traps continue to be in unacceptable condition. The layout is great. There were no marshals driving the course, so it took us 4:40 to play 18 behind multiple unacceptably slow foursomes - way too long. The starter was outstanding. Inside staff was less than friendly. Cart person was great.

The practice area at this course is amazing. The driving range even has a few bays with trackman devices which anyone who has purchased range balls can use

Excellent Course
Falconhead is my favorite Austin public course. Nice practice facilities. Course conditions were great. Pace of play was good. Just an excellent day of golf!

Great course
The course was in great condition considering the winter in TX this year. Greens were a bit slow. Biggest complaint was that there was no sand in the bunkers, just some gravel to tear up your wedges.

Need marshals
As with most public courses these days, playing on a nice weekend is likely going to take a while. I can understand 4.5 hours, but a 5 hour round is unacceptable. As well, there was not a marshal in sight who could have helped matters. There's always that one group is that is over a hole behind and they were in front of us. They were clearly unaware on how to keep a pace of play which is reasonable (poor cart placement, tons of practice swings, etc.) Had there been a marshal ANYWHERE, they could have at least tried to keep the pace of play reasonable.
Also, it's time to put rakes back in the bunkers. Sister courses like Avery Ranch, now have them. What's the hold up with Falconhead?
Range is also poorly kept. Mats are old and it feels like you are on top of the person next to you.
This course used to be one of the premier public courses in Austin. It's now middle of the pack.

I was NOT offered a $20 fee to ride as a single. I was told it would cost $65 (double the price I paid for the round). I don't know if the individual in the club house is unaware, but might be worth making sure all of your staff are aware.
Thank you for the feedback, Brian. While our indoor staff all wear masks, we do not require our outdoor staff to wear masks per current state protocols. We do have a $20 surcharge for single riders, as we want to make sure we have enough carts for everyone. We're sorry that our rules and protocols aren't to your liking and we hope you have a great week.
