“You have no standing” slowest pace of play in 30 years of playing
I was a single player, taking advantage of a half price booking through GN. I now know why it was such a bargain price. Don’t be fooled they rammed the tee times and together with an elderly client base, that 99% could no longer strike the ball. Made for the slowest first 4 holes I’ve ever played. Yes 4 holes !!!!!!
Arrived in plenty of time to what is a beautiful course in great condition. Brilliant putting area and chipping green.
Only managed 5 holes in total after cutting through back to the club hut. !!! Now that’s the issue, pace of play would be quicker at a morgue.
The first three holes took 1.hour 27 minutes. The tee times were chocker blocked and waiting and watching the mature golfers mis hit pretty much every shot was quite painful to watch.
It gets worse, I asked to play through, only to be told “you have no standing” you would have thought common courtesy would prevail !!
The first 4 holes were made even more annoying as each time I was due to take my approach iron to the green, the ground men, started to change the pin location, this in turn took them about 6 to 8 minutes per hole. Clearly the lone player, who wasn’t a member could be disrupted. !!!!
I can’t believe they had the audacity to change the pin location mid hole or mid shot !!! I did question this on the 4th time of happening on the 4th hole, to be told I might need a touch to finish the round, those guys won’t you through. My tee time was just before 1pm !!!
Seems the culture at the club and the members is not to show any courtesy to guests .
I eventually gave up, cut through to get back to the club hut and played a small PAR 3 , whilst waiting for a 3 ball to chip and putt out ( 14 minutes ) another member approached me on the tee area again to tell me I had no standing…
Pretentious members and staff !! Ruined a great course
A great looking course but members and staff were very unpleasant
3 hour front nine
Me and my brother played this course as we were staying nearby for the week. Took us over 3 hours to play the front 9 as the 4 ball in front were so slow and wouldn’t let us play through. Walked off after 9 as we were waiting on the 10th tee box for over 15 mins. We were very disappointed
Very good course good test
Down in the Forset of Dean on holiday i booked to play The Forest Hills golf club, from the start of getting to the club to the time i left i can not fault the club the guys in the pro shop the staff in the clubhouse and the members who i met were so friendly. The course was in great condition from the tees to the fairways and the greens were avery good test of your putting skills. Definitely recomend playing this course to anyone visting this area. Next time i am down that way i will be paying another vist. I hired a buggy as the course is very hilly and i could not fit my electric trolley in the boot. At £41/£45 for the round i thought was very good value. 10 /10 Forest Hills
Great, but more signage required.
First time playing this course and overall enjoyed the experience.
A Sunday afternoon and the course was very busy so pace of play slightly slow with a wait on most tee boxes. I think the amount of blind shots adds to this especially for first time visitors. This leads to my thoughts on signage, there are no signs on any of the tee boxes with blind shots to alert the players to wait for the sound of a bell. A couple of times balls went past us while we were waiting for the green to clear.
There are many interesting holes with risky approach shots to the greens.
Unfortunately, our round was marred towards the end when whilst putting on the par 3 17th green, when one member of the group behind decided to play his tee shot to the green even though we were clearly visible from the tee. When we challenged his actions at the following tee he and the rest of the group basically laughed it off without apology. It would seem every sport has its idiots.
18th hole is fun as the approach shot to the green is over water and in full view of a very nice clubhouse patio.
Considering the lack of rain we have had recently the fairways were soft and the greens receptive.
Would definitely recommend this course to friends and would return to play again.
Not a bad course
Greens were rapid. Could have done with a dose of water. Nice track.
Good course, some testing holes
Maturing tree lined course cut into the hills, so lots of up and downs . Weather has been very wet so quite muddy on tracks between holes, and around greens but holding up well. Few very challenging holes , great value , pro shop very friendly and helpful - will play again in better weather
Forest Hill’s Golf club
Really enjoyed playing there! Booked the 08:06 tee time which meant we were first on the course, paired up with one of the members and we had a great time going around talking golf and less serious stuff too, it’s always nice going to a golf club where the members are friendly and don’t treat you as an outsider because you aren’t from the area! I thought it was spot on, the course was in great condition fairways soft as they are going to be but still rolled out nicely, greens in real good condition too( Great pace and consistent throughout) thank you Forest Hill’s I will be back
Forest Hill GC
For Winter the course was in great shape, Great suprise that tee boxes still being played, only mats for par 3's.
Superb as always
Always in great condition, superb winter course as well as summer

Great condition
Course was in great condition especially with how wet it has been recently. Much better condition than anywhere else I’ve been recently. Pace of play was very slow that was the only frustrating thing, no other issues at all
Lovely course
Very enjoyable round of golf. Staff friendly and welcoming as were the other golfers. Course in very good condition despite the recent poor weather. Greens were excellent. The course is challenging, suiting straight hitters!! Pace of play was quite slow as we were following a competition. However the overall experience was very good.
Would definitely play there again and recommend to others.
A gem in the Forest of Dean
Similar to previous visits, course in excellent condition. Very welcoming team in the pro shop and bar. Excellent value for money and will undoubtedly be visiting again.
Highly recommended to all golfers.
Fantastic
Course in great condition. Facilities top notch. If it was closer to home I'd be a member
Excellent Venue with great staff
The course is great with some thinking on lay up shots with some fairways sloping left to right etc. whilst reasonably busy pace of play was excellent. the food and beverage is excellent with a great choice and very reasonably priced. First time visit for my playing partner who enthused about the excellent course and at a fantastic price.
Superb day out
Played this course as our was undergoing maintenance. Really enjoyed it. The staff were exceptionally friendly and accommodated us despite a slight booking error on our part. Course was in great condition and the greens were simply magic. Well done on creating a lovely club and golf course.
