Golfer Reviews
A Great Cotswold Golf Experience
Played: 17 August 2026
I wasn’t quite sure what to expect before playing, as friends had warned me that the hot UK summer had left many golf courses looking dry and brown. They weren’t wrong about the fairways — they were certainly dry and brown — but thankfully they weren’t rock hard. The greens, however, were a pleasant surprise: remarkably green, lush and in very good condition.
The conditions made the course a real test and rewarded some careful thought, particularly with shots from the tee and fairway. There was very little wind, and with the gentle downhill slopes and firm fairways, the ball was travelling a long way. Some of my drives rolled out to around 400 yards, while a couple of 3-woods finished well beyond 300 yards — considerably further than I’m used to seeing. Judging how much extra roll to allow for on approach shots was therefore crucial, and getting that calculation right paid dividends.
I putted really well on the front nine, but the back nine was a different story. The greens had been watered, and the ball was slowing down much more quickly than I expected, which caught me out a few times.
The course itself is beautiful, with classic Cotswold scenery and plenty of changes in elevation that add character and variety to the round. The players and staff were also exceptionally friendly and welcoming, which added to the experience. A stop afterwards for a beer and a pasty was the perfect way to finish.
I got a little too aggressive on the 17th, thinking I would have a chance at an eagle or birdie. Alas, the tee shot went out of bounds. My second tee shot found its way next to the green. A good reminder that sometimes the sensible shot is the better shot!
Overall, I really enjoyed the course. It was challenging without being unfair, the scenery was fantastic, and the conditions made for an interesting and memorable round. I’d definitely play it again.
Fantastic views
1st time playing today, what an absolute gem of a course, firstly great value, fairways we're dry and brown as everywhere course in England but the greens were lovely, not fast not slow either, they ran true with no crowned holes,I played the white tees as my main course I play is 7000 yds+, there's a couple of drivable par 4s which I loved, the par 5s are risk reward holes and none of the par 3s are easy or boring, the par 3 11th is a beautiful hole, views on the back nine are stunning.Staff were great,9th tee has a phone no.for the kitchen so ordered a lovely chicken mayo sandwich and picked up on way to the 10th tee.members really friendly, helpful happy pro.Go treat yourself to a round here.Im definitely going back
Decent
Gloucester Golf Club is practical for me as I live close enough to walk rather than drive. The course itself is picturesque. The greens are well kept, fairways were very dry but can’t do much about that with the current heat. Pace of play was good. Was a solo player and 2 gents in front let me play through. Can’t really complain for a Thursday 3.30pm tee time
Col/Local
Always love playing Gloucester golf club course,a good challenge ,used to be s member,a regular favourite for me & friends I play with.Keith staff & members always friendly ,the course is in good condition this year & love all the changes that hav been made over past couple of years.I live not far from course so easy to pop up for a round..Great competitive prices for a round always, especially on golf app!Long may it continue,Keep up the good work Keith & all.
All the best Col/Local
average
front 9 holes slightly hilly back 9 very hilly with some very steeple hills. course not in best condition average at best , short par 3s hard walk back 9.
Good course some tough holes
Course in good condition, greens really nice. The back 9 is a lot harder than the front 9. Some of the tee boxes could use some work but generally good
Pace of play was ok there was some waiting around but still got done in 4 hours
The course is tougher than the 116 slope rating suggests.
Great course and facilities
Despite the website and its unwelcoming tone for novice golfers, this is a great course. Scenic, varied and in good condition. Good bar, driving range and shop too

Played here for years, used to be a member ,as its local to where I live.Always a good challenging course, especially the back 9!Enjoyed our round, course in not bad condition ,considering the amount of rain we’ve had!!Nice new Cotswold stone wall been put in as u approach first tee & clubhouse, looks good. Will look forward to playing here again soon,Keith Wood & staff always friendly & welcoming.Great local club to play & challenge your golf game.
Frosty, But Cool
Two courses in one was my conclusion as I completed my first adventure up here. First 10 holes I would describe as wide parkland, followed by 8 holes hillside style with some great views and some tricky holes. So pleased that on the day trolleys were allowed otherwise I wouldn't have visited at this time of the year. Considering the weather the course faired very well apart from the 11th which hadn't had any sun so was frosty from tee to hard bouncing green! Really enjoyed my round after a slow start. Will come again in the summer where I hope to drive the 18th - 400 yds downhill!
Winter rules and the course is fairing well
Early start and the green keepers open the course after the previous day of torrential rain
Fairways were very wet but that is to be expected, they were draining well so within a couple of holes and the early morning breeze the course was drying out well
All the hard work by the grounds team over the summer have really paid off
Bunkers were not in play
Greens were good but slow as the grass was a couple of mm higher to protect them
As always the couse is really well designed and with an added new lake on hole 4 makes that hole play extra long and it’s a great challenging par 4
Will be back for sure
Very rainy week and course remains in great condition
Played on my own, course very wet, but draining well. Greens have been worked and worked which is a credit to the staff and remain in tip top condition
Fairways thinking in places but they have measures in place to protect these, equally players can do their part too.
Walk up the sides of the fairways as instructed and everyone doing the same
Great couse
Very wet day, course now winter rules. Plays well
Great course and has recovered really well from the summer
Greens looked after and fairways tip top
Will play again next week
Wicked
Wicked
Dissatisfied and would not recommend this course
Very slow round, being held up towards the end of the front 9 and all of the back 9, no etiquette in calling players through and looked like there was no dress code standard and if there is then it wasn’t being adhered to.
Understand there has been some work going on with the course but the tee boxes were really bad and greens were also bad, with not etiquette again being adhered to by taking bunkers.
Lovely course, would recommend
Lovely challenging course, soke really nice views and lovely holes
Will be a fantastic layout once improvements are complete amd need ball washers at tee boxes.
Give it a go!
Played this course even though the recent reviews weren’t great. Very pleasantly surprised as fairways and greens couldn’t be faulted for the £25 green fee. Give it a go, the previous old reviews either caught the club at a bad time or aren’t genuine reviews. Great value for money. Pace of play can be a bit slow during 10-13 stretch but the last 4 holes make up for it.
