Unfriendly players
My partner played this course while we were on holiday. I went with him. Had a good time until the 15th hole when a player in a 4 ball on the 7th tee shouted to us, we didn’t hear what he said at first. Then he shouted ‘where is your collar’. My partner said it’s here and pulled his collar. He was wearing a penguins polo shirt. My partner said do you want me to come show you, the player shouted back I don’t want you any where near me dressed like that.
It really spoilt our day and my partner was very upset with the comment. Two young men behind us were lovely and told us to ignore them. My partner had booked to play Saturday too and he really did not want to go, but he had paid so went. We spent £115.00 at the club to not enjoy the experience.
Very nice
Up on the hills outside IIlfracombe the course is not flat. Pro was excellent. Leads to some blind shots, but you always know where you are going. Nicely wide, yet to score you have to take account of any slope and try and place your shots. Fairways green. Greens in great condition with lots of slopes to challenge. 19th hole very welcoming.
Amazing views
Amazing golf course, beautiful views from every hole. Staff really friendly and helpful! Greens amazing!

Illfracombe golf course

Tez,s holiday
What a course I had a wonderful day and the staff were very friendly and helpful it could not have been a better day for me.
Stunning scenery, but an awkward Course layout.
Let's start with the positives. This is a gorgeous coastal golf course. You can see the sea from every tea and the surrounding scenes are stunning. The course is also distinctly unique in its layout. New visitors will face holes that are totally idiosyncratic. It Is certainly not one of those golf courses with a forgettable formulaic layout. Overall, the course is well kept and the greens are quick. The rough is thick and the fairways are sloped, which provides a good challenge.
However, this course is very awkward and feels somewhat dislocated. There are three 'par threes' in the first four holes, which feels contrived. There is also a lot of crossing over between holes. This becomes tedious, given the amount of waiting for others on crossing fairways. Furthermore, I don't think this course rewards good ball striking. It is tricky and quirky. Therefore, this course seems to reward insider knowledge (given the amount of slopes and hitting over hills) rather than an impressive demonstration of tee-to-green striking. This can become infuriating in locating your ball, given that many of the fairways/greens are completely hidden from the line of sight.
Overall, it is worth a game given the reasonable green fees. But make sure to take plenty of balls.
Great little track!
Brilliant little track! Awesome condition and the views are spectacular! Absolutely recommend it! Fella in the pro shop was very welcoming and friendly. Love this course!
Not a course to play in the wind !!
Unfortunately the weather was against us, for our first visit to Ilfracombe, having said that; i didn't feel welcome, hence we did not visit the clubhouse for an after round drink, which would be a normal proceedure for us. It was; here's the card and off you go !! No mention of a temporary green on the 6th, this could have potentiallt been dangerous, as greenstaff were working on drainage on the actual 6th green. The signage was awful, we played several holes from the tee without knowing which way we were actually going a simple black and white pole for the 10th rather than a sign that had been blown around in the strong wind and maybe a red and white one for the 12th. An awful tee box on the 18th yellow tees and no obviuos route back to the clubhouse after playing the 18th. Overall I might play again on a calmer day, especially now that I have an idea of the course layout, a bit disapointed would be the overriding opinoin of us.
Great hilly course
Thoroughly enjoyable hilly course on the coast. Welcoming staff. Good facilities
