Greatwood Golf Club
About
Greatwood is known for its white sand bunkers and impressive par 3s, three of which play right at or over 200 yards. The 1989 Carlton Gipson design features elevated tees and greens that sandwich plush fairways and are contoured with mounds.
The 434-yard par 4 hole 5 is one difficult par, featuring a fairways loaded with bunkers and involves water on the approach. No. 18 goes 576, yards. While the tee shot is fairly standard, the second shot must land short of a plateau and might involve a blind approach shot if placed too far to the left. The intimidating approach plays into a green surrounded by water on three sides.
Getting there : From Hwy. 59 south, turn left on Crab River Rd., then make a left onto the other side of Hwy. 59. Look for Greatwood Pkwy. and make another left when you get there.

Don’t arrive early
Arrived 1 hour 15 minutes early after an hour drive and was told I could not be checked in or issued a cart for me prepaid tee time. I was invited to carry my bag and a bucket of balls several hundred yards across the parking lot, first tee box and road to the driving range. Then carry my bag back across the same obstacles in 20 minutes to be checked in. Just silly. Greens are in bad shape and fairways needed a mower. Staff never offered an explanation for the check in policy and seemed inconvenienced by my presence.
Good for the money
Great layout
Grass thin in areas
Greens need more attention
Could be a great place to play
Greens were bumpy which meant putting was as much about luck as it was about skill. They were much better last time I played here pre Christmas.
After a week of great weather, the bunkers hadn't been raked at all. All the sand was compacted and heavy.
Staff (especially the Marshall) were friendly & helpful.
Just think it's a good layout and with a little more attention, could be so much better.
Good layout
Some bad spots on fairway due to rain over the last few days, bunkers need more sands. Friendly staffs, great layout. Recommend this course
could be better
Greens were spotty and green on due to paint or fertilizer. I give them a pass due to the weather during fall and winter. Bunkers need work but also weather a big factor.
Food in grill was TERRIBLE. Worst patty melt ever. Patty dry and over cooked. Just two pieces of wheat bread (untoasted and ungrilled) with an over cooked patty with a few grilled onions. My wife’s chicken tender salad was just lettuce, a few tomatoes, and onions (requested by my wife). Nothing else. The chicken tasted like it was 4 days old.
The waitress/bartender was really good and nice though. We did not complain about food but would not eat their again.
Needs security? And Pushed our cart
I ran into clubhouse for our cart keys and was only allowed to get one key for our foursome due to kids running a cart into lake. I am a 43 yo Dr. which was on my prebooking also, it is not likely I fit the profile. We went on to have to push our cart up hills in the front nine and swapped it out for the back.
Not worth the money
The greens were in awful shape and for $57 I expected better, much better. The tee boxes were also uneven a lot which was annoying. As a scratch golfer, I expect to at least have that. The game is hard enough. Not sure if previous reviews were even real because there is no way the greens deteriorated to the extent I saw over a week. The staff was very nice which was a positive.
Value for the money
Nice course, somehow challenging but not too difficult as long as you stay out of the water.
Slow Play
pace of play was slow due to novices playing ahead and cart path only conditions. The greens were running fast and conditions were sloppy due to previous weather.
Lot of water
Moderate to difficult course. Lots of water to clean up your old golf balls. Good course will visit again.
Good Value
Overall the course was in good shape. The greens were a little slow and the fairways weren’t pristine but certainly playable. Played the back tees which made some holes play fairly long and made the course more challenging as a result. I played early afternoon on a Monday and basically had the course to myself. I think this course offers very good value for the money and is my go-to when I’m trying to get a quick round in.
Wet Day
Course was wet but in good shape. Felt the course Marshall pushed us a little more than we should have been, since the groups behind and in front of us were less than a foursome.
