Greatwood Golf Club
About
Greatwood is known for its white sand bunkers and impressive par 3s, three of which play right at or over 200 yards. The 1989 Carlton Gipson design features elevated tees and greens that sandwich plush fairways and are contoured with mounds.
The 434-yard par 4 hole 5 is one difficult par, featuring a fairways loaded with bunkers and involves water on the approach. No. 18 goes 576, yards. While the tee shot is fairly standard, the second shot must land short of a plateau and might involve a blind approach shot if placed too far to the left. The intimidating approach plays into a green surrounded by water on three sides.
Getting there : From Hwy. 59 south, turn left on Crab River Rd., then make a left onto the other side of Hwy. 59. Look for Greatwood Pkwy. and make another left when you get there.

Ok Course
Not bad value if you can play on one of the hot deal tee times.
My only major complaint is that my group was skipped by two groups by the starter while we waited at the first tee box. Was told that "Oh this group always plays on Sunday at noon" and that "they play fast." I asked if we could go off on 10 and was told that they didn't want to people to feel like they were getting cut in front of. Well, ok, I know that feeling. Guess we're getting skipped. We waited on these guys on almost every shot for 12 holes.
Since players without scheduled tee times are obviously given a higher priority than my group with a scheduled time, I won't be back.
Bunkers
Sand is needed in the sand bunkers. Otherwise, golf. course is in good shape.
Ant piles everywhere
Paying $59 at this course is a rip off! You could get a better value at many other courses offered by GolfNow. Cart paths are bumpy and cracked, ant piles all over the place. Worse than the course is the high price to play, course prices should be $25 top price and less than that after 1pm. I won’t waste my money again...
Great Golf Course
Greatwood has some pretty challenging holes. While we played whites, it was difficult to say the least. Will definitely play again.
Value fair, course okay but customer service lacks
GolfNow value find. Committed a tee-time/$ online. Went to pay & price changed/added a fee for course water "something". Person at counter was not sure what to make of how things are charged or why. I was given money back for the course water thing & I stated I had a committed $charge over the internet but even the original quoted charges for green fee+tax was wrong. I let it go. Concession stand not open. Went to check in w/starter saw 15 men standing on the tee box 5 mins prior to our start time. Starter stated they all go off early every friday/had a standing tee-time for the 3-4 groups. He asked if I wanted to go off the back 9 & I said why don't they since we were up and they were definitely starting late eating for players and he said they would not, so I decided I wouldn't either. Most of the fairways were in terrible shape, spots of dirt, so uneven, bumpy. The greens needed still a lot of work, sandy, dry dirt spots and again bumpy as well. The tee boxes described in other review were tended to from what we saw. I'll save my money/go elsewhere. Mind the reviews, some are fairly accurate for this course. If I had paid the rate of $25 like some of the gentlemen that went off ahead of me I might have digested the $$ I paid and the time I took to come play a 4.5 round where residents/or members are serviced 1st.
Course is fairly short but requires accuracy. When in shape it is my favorite layout.
Wet weather causes problems in bunkers
Greatwood is my favorite course when there is enough rain to keep the fairways in shape
Greatwood is my favorite course wheN the fairways are in shape. The greens have lots of variety
Difficult gc but will play again
Greens are great. Fairways are great. Difficult greens, but worth every putt! Will play again.
Not worth the money
Staff members are horrible, course is in terrible condition, greens were covered in sand, fairway was not cut, greens fee was $58 for a garbage golf course. I'd recommend my golf friends play River Pointe that is about 10 minutes away from Greatwood. Don't waste your hard earned money on this poor excuse for a golf course.
Fairways and greens in great condition
fairways are in great condition. So are the greens, i'm sure frequent rainy days has a lot to do with it. but, to give credit where credit is due, greatwood did an excellent job in maintaining and up keeping the golf course. highly recommended. I'll always play Greatwood, every week..
Great day of golf
Love this course, friendly staff,no crowd, fast pace of play and challenging layout. Had a great time and will play here again.
Summer Review
Skimpy on maintenance as greens were relatively dry & crusty and most traps lacking sand and very thin. Still a good value if you lowere your expectations.
Course layout is interesting
I liked the course layout, with some creative holes. The fairway and bunker conditions were great, even though the greens had just been aerated and sanded.
Hot day in June!
the course moved pretty good after we played through a group that was fishing a thrown club out of the lake on #11, really! We were stuck behind them for about three holes, no marshals in sight. Only saw the beer cart girl one time, and ALL water coolers were dry on 97 degree day! That was pretty ridiculous!!
Nice layout
The course has an interesting layout.
Pace of play when we played was terrible, 5hrs and 15min I’m the blistering heat behind an incredible slow 4 ball.
