Greatwood Golf Club
About
Greatwood is known for its white sand bunkers and impressive par 3s, three of which play right at or over 200 yards. The 1989 Carlton Gipson design features elevated tees and greens that sandwich plush fairways and are contoured with mounds.
The 434-yard par 4 hole 5 is one difficult par, featuring a fairways loaded with bunkers and involves water on the approach. No. 18 goes 576, yards. While the tee shot is fairly standard, the second shot must land short of a plateau and might involve a blind approach shot if placed too far to the left. The intimidating approach plays into a green surrounded by water on three sides.
Getting there : From Hwy. 59 south, turn left on Crab River Rd., then make a left onto the other side of Hwy. 59. Look for Greatwood Pkwy. and make another left when you get there.

Greatwood
Course was in nice shape in general. Bunkers and fairway well kept. Green cut well, although type of grass probably not ideal. Staff professional.
Corse needs work.
Tee boxes were hard as rock, sand traps didn't have sand, clay was used. Cart broke hard to steer but managed to continue on.
Good Course
I have played here several time and have always enjoyed my experience. Course is forgiving on most holes and seems to always be in good shape. Greens and tee boxes usually avg or above but the sandtraps this last outing needed some serious work. All were very hard and a waste to even try to play out of. I don't recall this ever being an issue with this course in the past. I'm sure the traps will be attended to soon based on the condition of the rest of the course. I look forward to playing here again.
Nice layout
Course is in pretty good shape considering the recent flooding of hurricane Harvey greens are running real good pace of play was excellent & course is challenging tight Fairways and driver is not needed on several holes testing your mid-iron and long iron off the tee game ; Par threes can be a little long from the back tees over all around Great Golf experience.
Worth the money
Overall course is in great condition, considering past storm. Very good value for the money!
Come Back to Greatwood!
The course is in tremendous shape right now. Greens are fast and it's easy to lose a ball or two (or more) in the rough. There are new tee boxes going in, and I haven't seen the course look and play this well in years. Everyone in the pro shop is great and even the practice range is well-conditioned. If you haven't been out to Greatwood for a while, put it back on your to-do list. It's well worth the effort.
Great Public Course
Played during the middle of the day as a solo. Overall the course was in great shape. They are fixing some of the tee boxes so some of the holes play a bit shorter but overall the course is very well kept considering the Houston Weather. My cart was a little dirty, but I think someone returned it in the wrong spot and I didn't notice till I was already on the first tee. I'd recommend this course and will likely play here again.
Greatwood
Used to play a lot after it opened. Like many course there has been some decline. Overall good except traps are pretty poor. Minimal sand.
Somewhat overpriced
The day was rainy which normally affects the attitude of play. The non-variables were the course was not in good shape. A few of the tee boxes were moved due to insect infestation. The starter had a great attitude but the young man in the pro shop seemed to have had a bad night (not friendly). There was no cart person nor any course amenities of which to speak. The fairways were not in the best of condition even taking the rain in consideration. .Based solely on these factors, I would not recommend this course to anyone especially friends.
Good value.
Tough course. I played after some good rains so it wasn't too quick. If it's dry it can play fast. Only suggestion is that they should groom the sand traps often. Many times the sand traps have been a bit too solid.
Decent course, no marshall
First time played. The course was good, slow pace.
Good course
Nice course, but I don't think it's worth full price. Find a discounted rate or a hot deal. There are a lot of options at a better price that are just as good. That said, the course was in good shape and the greens rolled true. A truly enjoyable course with friendly staff. When discounted, I would definitely play here again.
This course had a really nice layout.
Gorgeous views on the course!!!! Nice layout with plenty of bunkers. Greens were deceptive and firm. Really liked the course despite some of the negative reviews I've read about the course. Pro shop wasn't friendly but who cares because it's all about the course to me personally. Which was in great shape and I didn't have anybody jacking with me so I'm good. Great course for the value!!!!!!!
Good day on the course!
Talk about good pace. Buddy and I zoomed through in 3 hrs. First time I've gone to a course where there was literally NOBODY on the course with us. We tee'd off at 1230. Course was in great shape btw.
This place is in horrible shape
This may have been the absolute worst cared for course I have ever played. I stopped after 9 holes. You needed a hammer to even put a tee in the ground. The fairways had huge cracks in them. I should've gone in and asked for a refund it was so bad. There were no scorecards on the carts and the guy didn't even give me a key when I checked in. Do not waste your time or your money. Had I known what the course was like...I wouldn't have paid $5. The pace of play was excellent because it was empty. I should've clued in to that. DO NOT PLAY HERE. BTW...this is the first review I've written and I've played a lot through golfnow.
Needs hydration
The course was very dry, felt like it hadn't been watered in weeks. Staff member said that they could no longer use the ponds to water the course. The course conditions will be completely dependent on rain water to keep the course in good playing condition.
