Macdonald Portal Hotel, Golf & Spa - Premier Course

We played a fourball at 15:10 yesterday afternoon and I was surprised at how good the greens were the tee boxes were also very good, the course has a great layout with some holes you need to think about where you put your tee shot.

The course was in Very good condition. Very hilly you need a buggy if you have mobility issue. Overall a very enjoyable afternoon playing golf!

One of my favourite courses to play. Not in its best condition but it’s only April. Buggies are now £40 which is the most I’ve ever had to pay anywhere in the country so it’s not a cheap knock if like me you have to have one.

Lovely wide, well kept fairways - amazing views across Cheshire. Varied terrain, hilly, not much rough. Being April we had all weathers - bitter cold wind, even a bit of snow, and then lovely warm sunshine, enough to cast off the layers! Greens a bit disappointing, but its been winter.

Finished ca 6.30pm but everything closed up so no beverages available.

Really disappointed to find out I was placed as a single behind two incredibly slow four balls…. Both groups refused to let me through despite completing only 5 holes in 2hours!!

Really spoilt the experience and I left after the 8th as I couldn’t take it any longer…..

Course in reasonable condition and quite challenging.

Good course with interesting layout, not chuffed to be behind a society could of been warned about that.. Apart from that good day all round played of whites and thoroughly enjoyed it.

some really good tee positions made me have to use every club in the bag and have to shape the ball whilst applying some course management. The greens in areas where like glass and it was tricky to stop the ball on the green.

The course had some really interesting holes dog legs, elevated tees into par 3’s.

Great course, challenging due to weather conditions. Could do with some sand in the bunkers.

First time played here in 20 years. Course in superb condition including greens. Some great holes here.

The quality of my golf did not match up with the course!!, overall a good walk.

Prefer Portal Championship Course but that is a personal opinion and not a poor reflection on the Premier Course

Well presented and challenging course. Tee boxes in good condition. Fairways in good condition and greens in great condition. Bunkers need a good rake but play it as it lies!

Nice friendly staff. Young lad in the pro shop very helpful. Nice waitress service too.

I would both definitely play this course again and fully recommend it also.

Excellent layout with friendly staff and welcoming. Only let down was the greens were very slow which I was expecting them to be fast as not been in use for a long period of time.
