A very challenging course not for the faint hearted
Beginners beware!!
For a change
Decided to have a change looking for somewhere with good drainage as home course very boggy.
Thoroughly enjoyed the course with some interesting quirks. Its a public area with lots of ball pinching dogs with their owners. popular walking area with the Cotswold way going straight through it, Also crosses over itself a number of times so do need to be careful.
Paths are rocky and probably better suited to carrying.
Good fun for a social round. Will be returning.
Golf though a Bronze age fort
The course is a little rough and ready in winter conditions and one where accuracy is prized over length. It is not everyone's cup of tea and if you play it on a weekend you will be regularly held up due to riders, walkers and dual fairways so play in the week.
All that being said, name me a another proper golf course anywhere where you have to play shots to greens inside of bronze age ramparts! the views are also great.
Blind confusion
A quirky course. Very hilly with lots of blind shots.
It was very quiet so we had no-one to follow. Tough carries for ladies. My wife struggled.
Fantastic views but therefore very popular with walkers who did not always keep to the sides.
Enjoyable for me but not my wife.
Challenging but fun
We picked a weekend tee time which meant there were regular pauses to allow the many walkers to cross the fairways. The course is a ‘countryside links’, using the many natural features to create an interesting but challenging environment. Some really fun holes playing onto different levels and stunning scenery throughout.
Wet Monday
Even the poor weather could not disguise this interesting course or dampen my enthusiasm for it
Couple of improvements would be better signage (especially to fifth green!) and tee markers
Worth noting no catering on Mondays
Great course though superb views good greens and friendly helpful staff
I don’t like to be unkind but...
I don’t like to be negative about a golf course but unfortunately this course is not particularly enjoyable to play with numerous blind uphill holes, very tightly packed together holes and as it is a public walkway you also have lots of people with loose dogs or children walking all over the course, many of which do not want to acknowledge that you are playing a shot and so they could be in danger. There are a few good holes (much prefer the back 9) but too many negative reasons to not want to come back again. VFM wise I would easily recommend Gloucester or Cleeve Hill which are nearby, a better layout and often cheaper.
Amazing environment, tough course, greens need work
The USP of this course is the views and scenic experience it give. The fairways and challennging natural format makes for a great roiund, but the greens on this occasion were poor. They have been stabbed for airing, but not rolled so they were full of bobbles and holes making putting not realy viable.
Challenging
A Great testing course. You need to be on your game for this one. I would like to play again, which we will next year. More directions around the course would help. Plus directions to the course.
Great parkland course
Course was in great condition, greens were really fast, only let down by hole 3 which was out of action, due to vandalism so not really the clubs fault.
Unique Course worth playing
Really good value and a unique course - no bunkers, ponds or ditches. Overall in pretty condition. Few blind shots but all good fun.
Beware walkers (who are not golfers) and also golfers playing the shared fairways.
No catering or bar service on the monday we played - would have been nice to be told this at the point of booking. Club house and toilets shut when we finished at about 3pm.Pro did sort us out a coffee from the vending machine before we played.
Absolute whopper of a track, more walkers than golfers on the course surprised people haven’t been killed walking around here. People having picnics in fairway, ridiculous. The pro was a nice chap though, shame about his buggy.
Don’t be fooled
Painswick is a fantastic course to play. It is not long but is full of really interesting holes. The condition of the greens yesterday were quite simply excellent. Firm and smooth. The clubhouse was delightful. Great staff, great food and very nicely appointed. We are members of two local clubs so know Painswick GC well but we’re amazed at the quality of what they have developed. Well done we will be back.
Very difficult to navigate
The course had too many shared fairways and blind shots. Also very difficult to find the next tee on several holes. Blind par 3 was dangerous
