Enjoyable course to play.
I always enjoy playing the Woolfox. The condition of the course is good, the greens are great. My only criticism is signage, it is very easy to go in the wrong direction, especially the second tee. Overall I enjoy playing this course. The staff are helpful and friendly.
It's Maturing
Haven't played since early March and got a shock to see the 2 new opening holes.
The par 3 1st works brilliantly, the second less so and will be a real problem when thr trees grow.
That aside the course is remains in very good nick, interesting holes and landscaping is kicking in.
But for the love of God get some better signage and please update Garmain so I can use my watch!!!
Course layout
I had played on this cousre before it was altered although the old course hadn’t any water at all I think in general it was better before
Also the lack of signage pointing out the next tee was a problem
One particular hole was also not obvious ad to which green you should be aiming for
Having played it once I would no which way to go but for new visitors this could be a problem
Friendly comp between mayes
Played this round as hoping to play here with friends for monthly meet-up Course nice, well looked after fairways, rough not too bad at all. Tee’s are a bit so so, need some TLC?
Lots bunkers and some could do with a clean up as not enough sand and lots small stones in them
But nice welcome ( small golf shop) small coffee bar but bigger facilities in main building for food and drink
Slow, uneducated Play
After 5 holes of being continuously held up, observing the course full of people unaware of the rules when it comes to playing from other fairways, I left.
While the facilities have been refurbished to a high standard, the lack of attention to the course and play occurring on the course at such a peak time spoke volumes.
A pleasant course to play
An interesting par 3 over a lake is a great introduction this course. Greens are large and the fairways are wide and forgiving.
I understand that the course has been altered and my Garmin watch doesn’t seem to have updated the alteration which made judging shots I to the green difficult and as no course plan is provided on the score card spotting hidden bunkers surrounding the green was impossible at times.
All in all we enjoyed the round and would play the course again.
A let down
The only thing I really enjoyed about this course was the first hole, and being able to catch up with my mate! Other than that it was a let down. No staff around at a 6:12pm tee time, very confusing for first timers here as a result. Probably don’t need to pay to be honest, just turn up and play. Nobody would know. Course poorly signposted and if you play just 9 holes, you have a loooong walk back so be prepared! Sprinklers came on at the greens as we were playing so that was annoying too. You’d think they’d set timers better. For a health/lifestyle club with such great facilities and a massive monthly fee - this course was poor.
Millionaires golf
06.30 start ,course in excellent condition, greens recently cut bunkers dressed . Staff extremely friendly, well worthwhile visiting
Love to play this course regularly
With the new holes over the water, made the course more interesting, good layout
Really enjoyable course to play
The course is in great condition, superb greens. The new layout has shortened the course, but does not take anything away from the enjoyment of playing it. The clubhouse is small, with very little golf equipment for sale. There is a resturant next to the gym, which is really nice, with both indoor and outdoor space. However, it feels that it is designed to cater for younger gym users than golfers, or golf societies. But I find it difficult to say anything negative, as I always enjoy playing at the Woolfox.
Great course
1st time playing the course after a friend recommended the course, after playing it himself just over a year ago but the course layout had changed since he played and said it was much better than before. Greens was in great condition, it’s a course you can attack a good score. I play off 14 and shot 77 which was 8 over, par 69. Loved the 10th hole short down hill par 4 about 240 to the front to 270 back, Hit a 3 wood to 10 foot and drained the putt for eagle! Would definitely recommend this course and I will be back to play soon!
Great new course layout and condition
I really enjoyed playing the new course layout. It is shorter but still testing. The greens are great, the tees still need some work and signage could be better. But overall a really good course. Will definitely will be playing again.
Nice
Very friendly staff. Course layout slightly altered over last few months and lots of maintenance work carried out on the course. The time and money spent on the course is starting to pay off now things are maturing in place. Good course for beginners but challenging enough for the more experienced. Hole 1 over the water is a fantastic new addition. My only problem is the layout, not enough signs to help with navigating. Also no map on scorecard as of yet. Some of the holes if you haven't played before are difficult to see where the green would be or is from the tee. The worst being the 2nd hole closely followed by the 17th.
Great course
I have played here numerous times over the winter and most recently this week. Loads of work been done to the course and site. Been a number of hole switches with layout etc. No good for GPS until its updated. Luckily I know the course quite well but when playing alongside first time players here they have found navigating difficult. I think once gps is all up to date and scorecard has course mapthis will be one of the best courses locally to play. Additionally I'll add drainage here seems fantastic so even after heavy downpours the course has been more than playable.
Poor in many ways
The course is in a transitional state at the moment with work ongoing to remodel the layout and some the holes. It appears they are doing this to accomodate some large lodges/houses on the site of the old first hole.
The net result is an attempt to squeeze extra holes into the other 17. Consequently you have 6 par 3's, and 3 of the par4's are extremely short (one of them is a long iron/hybrid to easily reach the green).
It is also in poor condition, we have had bad weather but the condition of the fairways and greens is very bad in comparison to all other courses i've played in the Rutland and Peterborough area.
Unfortunately it is one to miss for a few years, but unless they somehow improve the layout further it will never be a decent course in my opinion. Our society has visited this course for 10+ years now but after the latest round have decided not to return in the short-medium term.
