Canyon West Golf and Sports Club
About
The scenic ranchlands west of Fort Worth are full of rugged canyons, native wildflowers, and impressive elevation changes, all of which are incorporated into Canyon West’s design. Located atop Parker County’s highest summit, this 1997 18-holer incorporates all of those North Texas Hill Country features and more into its design. Waterfalls, miles of streams, exposed rocks, prairie grasses, wildflowers, and loads of oak, pecan, elm, and mesquite trees highlight the landscape.
Elevated tees offer views of the countryside. In addition to the scenery, golfers are welcomed by generous fairways that make this a fairly user-friendly course, especially given its reasonable yardage of 6,653 from the tips and the fact that water comes into play on only about half of the holes.
Other notes: During the week, the course offers seniors a two-for-one green fee. Walking is not allowed.
Getting there : From Ft. Worth, go west on I-20 and take exit 403. Cross left over the freeway and then make a quick right onto the service road. The entrance is 2.5 miles down the road.

Disappointing
Been playing here the last few years. Everytime I play here it seems to just get worse and the price seems to be more expensive than the last. Fairway were rock hard, around the greens were wet and muddy. They had an entire fairway of a par 5 closed with no notice from the pro shop. Unfortunately will not be playing here again until I hear it’s in better shape. Course has so much potential to be good, but not worth almost 60 dollars to play. Especially with Whitestone or Rockford right down the road for the same cost.
Course in bad shape
Fairways were burned from the heat and drought conditions. Greens were long and slow and there was a lot of boggy areas from maintenance issues and/or over-watering.
Tee time management was suboptimal and pace of play was about an hour slow.
Price was a little steep for the course conditions but Canyon is always a good time.
Really good course in a beautiful setting and neighborhood
I really like the Canyon West course. It is a beautiful and challenging course, and the staff is super friendly and helpful. They have worked hard during the unbelievable heat and drought to keep the course in good shape.
Burned out
This course is suffering from lack of rain and water restrictions. All of the fairways are burned out and it's like hitting off concrete. Most tee boxes are in decent shape but some are starting to get torn up with lack of water. The greens are about the only place they are watering so they are performing pretty well. They could be a bit faster but then they might start to lose them in the heat. It a fun short layout with twist and turns all over the course. Learn to hit golf shots and use the on cart GPS if you have never played there before.
Bad course conditions
Not worth the green fee! Or time to drive out there. The fairways are dead and play like you are on concrete! If they watered it might be better, but not now. No one told us about conditions until we arrived. Booked on their website and no mention of the Carp Path Only as well! So with bad conditions and cart path only at 100 degrees makes for a terrible day of golf.
They didn’t even offer a better rate,! Just sorry and no one really cared. The older guy just kept saying he played it yesterday and walked, who cares! The kids that worked (cart, concession and drink cart). Where very nice!!
It’s just a bad course now, but could be a nice course if they watered it! Ask before you go!
Do not waste your money or time
I’ve played this course several times. I understand this summer has been hit and dry. I understand why they stopped watering the fairways all together. But to charge full price and act like that’s acceptable, is wrong. To top things off there is no Marshal. Took us over 5 hours to get thru the round, in 100 degree heat. I won’t be back for quite some time. Fairways are completely dead.
Fairways dry and hard pan underneath. Aware there hasn’t been rain in quite a while. Carts on path only ! However, still had a nice time. Staff excellent.
Target golf
Rarely hit driver, target course. Enjoyed change of pace. Everybody’s fairways burned out, greens and apron playable. Most tee boxes ok.
Fairways Are Burnt Up
I understand there are water issues around with no rain but the fairways are gone. Burnt grass and dirt is what you will be playing off of. Other courses I could have played and not wasted my time driving out there. Pace of play is horrible. Maybe send a Marshal out to check on things. Wish someone would have let me know the condition of the fairways.
Do not play
Fairways are all dead. Don't play. Charging full price for a terrible course. Sad because this used to be a course I would drive an hour for. Not anymore.
Texas champion course
A great course for the Weatherford area. Staff are friendly and helpful. Carts are clean with GPS included. The 9th hole par 5 hits from a tall hill creating a memorable view.
Need course Marshall's
Took us 5hours to play 18 holes an there was only 2 of us playing in front of us there was a group of 4,2 and 2 groups of 5 and they wouldn't let us play through
Slow pace
The course was great but the pace was terrible it took us 5 hrs to play 18 holes and there was only two in our group the course should think about having Marshall's on the course to speed up the slow groups
