Canyon West Golf and Sports Club

About
The scenic ranchlands west of Fort Worth are full of rugged canyons, native wildflowers, and impressive elevation changes, all of which are incorporated into Canyon West’s design. Located atop Parker County’s highest summit, this 1997 18-holer incorporates all of those North Texas Hill Country features and more into its design. Waterfalls, miles of streams, exposed rocks, prairie grasses, wildflowers, and loads of oak, pecan, elm, and mesquite trees highlight the landscape.
Elevated tees offer views of the countryside. In addition to the scenery, golfers are welcomed by generous fairways that make this a fairly user-friendly course, especially given its reasonable yardage of 6,653 from the tips and the fact that water comes into play on only about half of the holes.
Other notes: During the week, the course offers seniors a two-for-one green fee. Walking is not allowed.
Getting there : From Ft. Worth, go west on I-20 and take exit 403. Cross left over the freeway and then make a quick right onto the service road. The entrance is 2.5 miles down the road.

Greens are bad
Course in good shape except for greens. Greens in bad shape with poana.
Lousy greens
My friend and I have played this course several times but not since back in December, but were very disappointed by what we found. The greens were just awful and some of the worst I've ever played on, as they were just covered in poa annua weeds, and I mean covered! The best of the greens maybe had 10-20% of them that actually resembled a golf green, and you couldn't even begin to know how to put on them. The balls would bounce all over, like they were in a pachinko machine, so there was no way to know where you would wind up, short, long, left, right? Even the practice putting green was awful, mostly just dead and also covered in poa annua, so you had an idea it was going to be a tough day if the rest of them were as bad, and they pretty much were. Add to this that we played behind four younger ladies that were slow as molasses, at times taking 25-30 minutes on a single hole, and the front nine took us over three hours to finish. Thankfully, they only played nine, but between them and the greens, it made what was a beautiful day, a very long one! We hope the warm weather kills off the poa annua, but for now, I wouldn't go here, unless you want a very frustrating day!
Rough greens
I played a couple weeks ago and the greens were terrible, hoped the rain and warmer temps would have helped, no such luck. No chance of a true roll at any distance.
Green Conditions
With the Exception of the Greens condition the course was great. tee boxes, fairways always in good shape. the Green have been destroyed by poana. you couldn't make a put or read a break to save your life. Hopefully they will get them back in shape before to long.
Greens were terrible
The greens were some of the worst I’ve ever played.
Canyon West
I recently played Canyon West Golf course. Even though the conditions are a little off due the Poauna and early spring conditions. The course will be in great shape by late April. Finally they have an owner who is investing some money into the course and you can see the effort. It’s always been a great layout but previous ownership did not take care of the soil. They recently aerated the fairways which I don’t my think has ever been done. They have good sand in the bunkers and are manicured. This place is going to be a blast in a month or so. It’s cool to see someone taking care off f their investment. Great job.
The worst greens you can play
This is a great course if you want to work on your driver, because you will not be able to putt. The greens are over grown with weeds and full of sand. Would not waste your time.
Aeration
Fairways have just been aerated and the greens are very bumpy and and look like they haven’t been mowed in over a week
Greens
I’ve never seen the greens this bad but the greens are bad at other courses too. I hope will make them better. We’ll see in a month or so.
What A Complete Dump!
This is by far the absolute worst golf course in North Texas... Even worse than the city of fort Worth's Pecan Valley River course.
When I say that Canyon West is a complete goat track dumpster fire of a golf course I'm being kind. The greens are pathetic to say the very least! There is absolutely zero grass on the greens and I mean literally nothing. The bunkers suck at an enormous level and the tee boxes look like nobody really gives a crap about anything at this place.
We teed off at 1:30 in the afternoon and went around the front nine only to find the snack bar was closed and the cart girls were unloading the carts... Mind you we played the front nine in 2 hours. Which means the idiots running this golf course decided to close up all the beverage services and snacks at 3:30 on a Sunday afternoon... Go figure.
Whoever owns and operates this golf course should get out of the golf business! I will not ever come back!
Save your money this course is a 100% rip off!!!
This course is one of my favorites
This course is one of my favorites to play. my only complaint is that this off season the greens have been a little rough. But in the next 4-5 weeks they will be back up to the par I expect to see at Canyon West.
Terrible Greens
If you are good at PLINCO on The Price Is Right then this may be your course. For the money it’s terrible. Maybe a $30 round would be fair.
Worst shape I have EVER SEEN this course in. I yes we get its after winter conditions but wow, greens just pathetic
Greens need to come back
I love Canyon West. Unfortunately, the greens need to come back from dormancy. Awfully bumpy and hard to play this early in the spring. The rest of course is mostly all dormant as expected. Pace of play good, layout is great as always and staff is super friendly and helpful.
Hoping For Better Next Time
Want to say I had a great afternoon at Canyon West but it could have been much better. I have played probably 30 rounds on Golf Now and have never had to share a cart. Despite at least 30 carts lined up I was told to share a cart with someone who already had the cart and they said they didn’t know where he went. What was I supposed to do with my clubs?🤷🏼♂️ no reason to not give me a cart. Front nine we got behind a 5 some. Clearly not keeping pace and no karshalll or any mechanism to speed them up or let us play through. The layout was nice, lots of character but the greens were not in good shape lots of little weeds sticking up making for bumpy putts. Back nine a group was sent out to start on the back nine just as we made the turn, again poorly managed imo. I will be back once the grass turns green again but hopefully a better experience overall.
Top 5
For me, this is one of the top 5 DFW courses. I love the layout and the conditions are great. Also a great value.
