Canyon West Golf and Sports Club
About
The scenic ranchlands west of Fort Worth are full of rugged canyons, native wildflowers, and impressive elevation changes, all of which are incorporated into Canyon West’s design. Located atop Parker County’s highest summit, this 1997 18-holer incorporates all of those North Texas Hill Country features and more into its design. Waterfalls, miles of streams, exposed rocks, prairie grasses, wildflowers, and loads of oak, pecan, elm, and mesquite trees highlight the landscape.
Elevated tees offer views of the countryside. In addition to the scenery, golfers are welcomed by generous fairways that make this a fairly user-friendly course, especially given its reasonable yardage of 6,653 from the tips and the fact that water comes into play on only about half of the holes.
Other notes: During the week, the course offers seniors a two-for-one green fee. Walking is not allowed.
Getting there : From Ft. Worth, go west on I-20 and take exit 403. Cross left over the freeway and then make a quick right onto the service road. The entrance is 2.5 miles down the road.

The bermuda greens put very true!
Had a good time the cart girl and the ladies in the deli and clubhouse were great. The greens are verticut often and put very true. played of the second tees and shot even par.
Great place to play golf
Canyon West is a fun course with some elevation changes that provide some scenic views. It is not a long course, but makes you use numerous clubs off the tee box. Greens were sanded recently so the greens were running a little slow. However, they rolled smooth and true.
Beautiful views of the Texas skyline
The course was in great shape, and the staff was extremely friendly. Will certainly make the drive to play this course again soon.
Beautiful landscape in the country
Staff here has always been really friendly. The course is in great condition except for some greens that have dried spots, which is the only reason I can't say that it is pristine. The dried spots do not generally affect the play and, to be honest, we expect that in Texas in the summer. Beautiful landscaping with nice lakes. One of my favorite courses.
Great elevation changes for a Texas course. Plays tough in windy conditions.
Enjoyed the course. Hard to find courses in Texas with elevation changes. The layout is pretty good, some trees along the edges of the holes. Well maintained and a good challenge the more wind you have. The best part is definitely the good amount of hill terrain.
This was one of the top experiences i've had on a course.
I took my two oldest grandkids. We completly enjoyed this course. The staff took extra care of us. Infact this was so enjoyable I can't wait for the next visit and take them again.
One of the nicest clubhouses in the area!
Love the course setting. Elevated tees are unique. Greens could be a little more challenging.
This was a fun course to play.
The holes are short but the fairways are tricky to stay in. The greens were in great shape and putted nice. The par 5's were all reachable with good drives and it made it fun to play. We played it twice and had lunch in under 7 hours.
Good Course - Great Fun
Canyon West is an enjoyable test of golf. Lots of variety in the layout - downhill, uphill; a little rough here and there - most of it not coming into play. There is even a hole with a big tree smack in the middle of the drive - I went around it to the right, but I bet you could try left too.
Generous landing areas off the tee box, with most hazards coming into play closer to the green. Watch out for the hazards on both #4 and #5.
The par 3's each go a different way and have either elevation changes or water. And they each take a different club.
Nice views of the surroundings counties from a few holes.
Tee boxes, fairways and greens in very good shape on my day there. Even though it was a long ride out to Weatherford, it was worth the trip.
Slow Play/Bad Greens
Typically better than this but Canyon waited late to work on their greens and thus, they are far behind other local courses regarding condition of greens. VERY bumpy and very sandy. Then they had a tournament blended in with the regulat tee times that made play darg out.
Cool par 3's
Fairly open course with cool par 3's. 2 have a severe elevation drop and a third with water and trees around it that make a high shot a must. Beautiful clubhouse.
Help
No excuse for the greens to be in the shape they were in. Plenty of grass, however, superintendent must not know how to take care of ultra dwarfs. Greens were aerified a few weeks ago and height of cut was very poor. Should have been extremely smooth putting surfaces.
Heavy thatch layer and extremely bumpy greens. Golf course is average at best. Very little imagination in the routing from the GC architect. I expected more from an incredible piece of land.
Staff was somewhat friendly. Beverage cart and attendant was at the clubhouse and we never saw it on the course.
New owners need some help here.
Improvements are really beginning to show!
New owners are really getting it going on this course. Have played here many, many times and the course is really coming into its own. Well maintained; new equipment on site; workers buzzing all around. Greens were recently punched but should be in great shape by mid-June. Really enjoyed the round...
Great deal, nice course
This was my first time to play this course. For $32 got 18 holes with cart and hotdog/chips/drink on a Saturday! Nice open course, not overcrowded by houses. Greens need some work but overall enjoyed this course. Nice views, interesting elevation changes with some elevated tee boxes. Overall I enjoyed this course and will play there again soon.
Under repair
This course is under new ownership. They seem like they are going to do good things, but its not there yet. Will play there again i 2 or 3 months.
Course is a very nice change from other area courses.
Course has interesting elevation changes, challenging greens that are firm and fast and favors shot-maker over long hitter.
It incorporates more terrain changes than any other daily fee course that I have played in the DFW area.
Stunning!!
I haven't played canyon west since 2006 so I got a great price to play it again this past Sunday and I jumped at the chance!! The weather was perfect but it was still very windy but it always will be! The course was beautiful!! The scenic tee boxes and the landscaping and waterfalls were absolutely stunning and beautiful!! This was the first time for my friend to play this course and he loved it!!! totally was in awe of course loved everything about it. We even liked the free lunch we got on the deal with golf now!! The only problem we saw was no Marshall!!!! well there could be one there but we never saw one. We started the front nine no problem 1 hr and a Half stopped for our free lunch the twosome behind us came in to get lunch and was last day of masters so we ate and got back out there and I noticed 2 4somes jumped ahead of us and play came stretching to a halt!! Took us 3 hrs to play back nine!! And never once did we see a Marshall we asked beer cart girl if she could get Marshall to get this course moving and she even said she wasn't sure who was working today? I recommend this course to anybody who loves to golf it is fun to play very challenging to play and the course was in great shape we did notice number 16 17 holes were a little dry but some more rain will soften them up soon enough make sure you play this course before draught hits late summer I did hear there is a new owner maybe they will keep the course watered and hire a Marshall!!! for someone like me who drove over an hr to get there and an hr back almost 5 hrs to play course, that is a long day!! Hopefully they can fix that or else canyon west will be a once a year course for me!!
Very nice country setting.
Wonderful scenery . I am new to golfing, the course was challenging to me . I plan on playing this course again.
Fun layout!
This course has a fun layout with challenging dog legs. The view is great with waterfalls and nice western look. The down fall to this course is the fairways. There a little rough with a lot of weeds. The course was still fun and wouldn't mind going back.
Great views, great value
I drive about 45 miles to play and will if price stays at or about $30 . Great course and great value. Balls run good on greens.
