The course is quite challenging
This is a good course to play with a nice layout and With some narrow fairways. Some holes need some really good management.
My only negative today was the poor quality of the greens. The hot weather obviously has a bearing on courses but maintaining the greens is paramount and considering the prestige of this course has they were very disappointing.
Pleasant staff & attractive venue.
We arrived early but the ladies said we could tee off as there was a gap. We were offered refreshments on the course & the bar staff were professional plus efficient. The restaurant was very clean, I’ve been coming for a long time, I’ve been playing for 40 years & this is the best run complex I’ve ever visited.
scorched this summer
Greens and fringes were good, as were tees, 18th fairway very good, the rest were completely burn and lacking any grass in places I play various courses a couple of times per week and this was the worst this summer by a way - which is a shame as the layout and facilities off course are really very good. I wish the course well and hope there are some grass roots left so when the rain comes, they can recover.
Better than expected
A fun round in the sun on a much improved course where the tee boxes and greens were in excellent condition despite there heavy use. Most fairways were also in good condition other than those that had been scorched by the unusually endless sunshine and dry weather we have been enjoying.
Unbearably slow
Challenging course in good condition. Got fed up with waiting 10 mins on each hole and left after 14
Silvermere - Worth the wait!
Beautiful Course, Fantastic Experience – With a Few Minor Hiccups
SilverMere is a stunning golf course, and we were blessed with a beautiful day to enjoy it. The grounds are immaculately kept, and the friendly staff made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Greens are maturing and unpredictable.
The course itself is a real challenge—demanding accuracy off the tee and testing the limits of mid to low handicappers. If you don’t play straight, you’ll find yourself in trouble, but that’s part of what makes it so rewarding!
We did encounter a couple of issues: one hole had a temporary green with no prior warning, which caught us out as we played long unnecessarily. The bigger frustration, however, was the slow pace of play ahead of us. There didn’t seem to be any marshals encouraging groups to keep up the pace or speed up ball searches, which led to some unnecessary waiting.
On a brighter note, the pro shop and upstairs facilities were excellent. The staff were incredibly helpful—especially when assisting me in picking out a new golf shirt!
Despite the minor setbacks, I’d fully recommend SilverMere for its superb layout, excellent conditioning, and fantastic hospitality. With just a little more attention to pace management and communication on course changes, it would be an absolute 10/10 experience!
Greens
The course was great the greens which were disappointing as they saded them all the running of the ball was terrible
Tem greens
Overall we had a good time at silvermere , the only down side was in not being informed b4 hand that there 3 tempery greens ,
Good course
There was 2 temporary greens on the 7th and 13th which was basically just flagsticks and an oversized cup on the fairway. But, the rest of the course was in very good condition for winter months. Some boggy parts on the fairway and the greens were very soft but this is to be expected for this time of year and it didn’t detract from the round really. This course in spring and summer will be a lovely round. The 17th and 18th are great holes to end on as well, both needing good shots over water.
Painfully slow… caused by one group and marshall did nothing about it
4 groups on each hole for the back nine.
4 hours and 20 mins to play 16 holes, as a 2 ball. Sacked off the last 2 holes in the end because of the painful pace of play.
Marshall came out on 10th tee and refused the believe it was the group we’d told him about.
It’s a good course Silvermere but unfortunately so busy where pace of play is not managed well.
Not as good as usual
I’ve played at Silvermere many times, I have friends who are members , I’ve even though about membership myself, but I was a little disappointed with my round on Wednesday.
I’m thinking that it may be getting over used.
The fairways were looking tired, and in some places rough and bare, and, unfortunately for us, the greens had all just been fertilised, with some being watered as we were approaching, making them impossible to read, with the ball bobbling along, sometimes quickly and sometimes slowly.
All in all, for £42, not really up to scratch
Quirky course, excellent value
Never been here before, excellent value for money and great clubhouse and food, loads of great facilities and first 6 holes and last 2 awesome lovely part of land adjacent lake and clubhouse, the other 10 holes are ok but very different and not as good as others in my opinion.
Maintenance was good and greens were nice, bunkers played great, fairways little thin on grass but played really well, I’d visit again for sure.
best public course around
Silvermere offers great golf for relatively low cost. Well maintained considering the high volume of traffic, some great holes. all varying in terms of difficulty, the greens on this particular day were a little slow and looked like they needed a cut, but I also understand they were well sanded and just looking after the greens. 17/18th closing are just stunning as is the view from the restaurant. Well recommended.
Sloooww
They let more people on from a large society than had actually booked. As a result the round took 5 hours with a glacial pace of play ruining what would have been a nice round on a good and varied course. Should have considered all the the other golfers who had actually booked rather than letting others on as everyone was affected
