Never again!
Visited here for the second time just to confirm that my first opinion wasn't inaccurate, sadly it was, subsequently there won't be another visit.
To cut to the chase the course is in dismal condition, which is a bit of a shame as the course layout is really good and the potential of the venue to be really good is there for all to see.
Unfortunately the arrogant and argumentative ownership don't seem to have the same view or any intention of maintaining the course or improving it.
Every single person I met on both my visits, including the one or two staff I spoke too, said the same thing.
The condition of the tee boxes and the greens in general is probably one of the worst I've seen in many many years and the bunkers are simply terribly neglected, but what can you expect when there are only two green keepers for a 27 hole complex.
To put it bluntly just go to the driving range instead.. you'll only regret wasting your time and money here.
Don’t, you’ll only feel you’ve wasted your money.
Like the title.. it’s such a shame as the course condition is terrible.. 2 green keepers for such large set up is scandalous.. owner needs to sell and leave it to people who know what they’re doing, but he won’t. DONT SUPPORT THIS COURSE.
Course Review
Really Good course for Beginner to intermediate golfer. The staffs are friendly and helpful.
Well priced venue, lovely first par 3
This is a decent golf course, fairways are wide and its very forgiving. Greens and tee boxes arent in fantastic condition right now but very happy with the price.
Plays well and has some nice variation of holes.
There is currently a temporary hole on the 13th because badgers have been tearing up. The green, I was told about this at the course reception and it did not put a downer on my round.
All in all definitely worth a visit. Very friendly staff and a forgiving course.
Excellent cause
Excellent cause, friendly staff and the owner takes the time to introduce himself. Great value per round or though a flex membership
Unfortunately its getting worse
The course layout is great, the staff are so friendly and helpful. The thing that lets the course down is maintenance.
They have a crow issue and they cause damage to the greens, which I understand is hard to deal with… but the green really do need some work; new cups and flags are a must. The cups are worn out and the flags are leaning against the edge of the hole, sometimes taking a chunk out of the hole. The cups have been in the same place for so long it’s starting to crown, making an already had green to putt on even worse. The hole has grass growing over them - an indication they haven’t been tended to for some time.
Some aeration and spraying pesticide to kill off the bugs would definitely help towards better greens and stopping the crows from pecking the greens to death.
Some bunkers have some orange building type sand in, no change in using a club in those…
This club has so much promise but lack of maintenance lets it down.
Course quality
Lovely views from elevated tees.
All tee boxes are destroyed. No grass or false surface to play off. Just grit and sand surface.
Greens under attack by crows. Skirt of greens torn up too!
Temp greens completely inadequate with the flag poorly (not staked) and not being visible on approach.
Significantly deteriorated since last playing it a few weeks earlier.
So much potential but it is clearly inadequately maintained. Expensive for the condition.
Wish I’d taken photos to post here.
Don't waste your time
The Hampshire golf course could be a really lovely course, outstanding scenery, a good mix of decent holes, beautiful views.
Unfortunately, the overall condition of the course is extremely poor. The greens are in a shockingly poor state as are the tee boxes. Bunkers in a similar condition, little sand and numerous stones. To be fair, the fairways were in a good condition which was surprising given the dry spell of weather we have had
Neglected
Played the Hampshire a lot in past years, so was looking forward to returning. It is by far in the worst state it has ever been! The tee boxes are a state and the greens are just woeful. I expected at £22 a round it might not be the best but it was way worse than expected. Its sad because the course has potential it just needs some investment put into it
Very forgiving course
Wide open fairways and forgiving rough. This is a great course for people like me, returning to play after a long break.
Good layout
God course , affected by dry weather. Greens pitted but ok.
The Hampshire Golf Club
Very picturesque surroundings. Staff super friendly and welcoming. As are many other Golf Clubs, the course is suffering very badly from lack of rain. Many greens in poor condition due to, what appeared to be, animal damage. My husband and I were behind a group of 6 men who decided to play together, some of whom were sharing clubs. As the majority of them were inexperienced it took us approximately 15 minutes to complete each hole. Somewhat spoilt the day and we gave up after playing 11 holes.
Terrible Condition
It’s disappointing to see the current condition of this golf course, which clearly shows signs of long-term neglect.
The pro shop is virtually empty, offering little more than a few packs of tees, q poor first impression for any visitor. The driving range mats are heavily worn and well past the point of needing replacement, which makes for a frustrating experience.
On the course itself, maintenance appears to be almost nonexistent. The tee boxes are bare, with little to no grass coverage. Fairways are overrun with moss, weeds, and patchy turf, offering inconsistent lies throughout. The greens are in poor condition, pockmarked with holes, likely caused by birds or other animals which severely affects putting quality.
It’s also clear that a number of bunkers have been removed, presumably to cut maintenance costs. The few that remain are in unacceptable condition, resembling hardpan with a thin layer of dusty, poor-quality sand. Some even contain weeds and stones, posing a risk to clubs and player safety.
At £35 a round, the pricing is completely misaligned with the quality of the course and facilities. In its current state, this venue does not offer value for money.
It’s unfortunate, but the lack of reinvestment is evident the course feels abandoned, with the focus seemingly placed on revenue rather than upkeep. With proper care and investment, this could be a good local course again. As it stands, however, it falls far short of even basic expectations.
Cheap
Very cheap - but only played 9 holes.
If you’re looking for a cheap round, course in okay condition but not that interesting.
Some of the greens were fine, but others covered in green debris - little dug up holes (not divots, maybe animal damage) but on most holes.
Great course, excellent value fantastic views
Wonderful conditions; greens hadn’t been cut so slow but overall highly enjoyable and recommended
