A Real Pleasure To Play Here
Was fortunate to arrive after morning showers had taken the fire out of the fairways, leaving the course in probably the best condition I have ever found it in. Set up just as you'd wish any course to be set up for a good round. The rough was well thinned out, making it easy to find and play my ball on the handful of occasions I strayed into it. Course was also virtually deserted. The views over the Hampshire countryside from the higher parts of the course must be amongst the best in the county. Overall, a real pleasure to play here. More people should play it
Good course
Really enjoyed playing this course. Some great challenges and a well cared for 18 holes
The Hampshire - Good
Good course. Some challenging holes but quite open so works for all standard of player. We got out early so didn't have to wait on a shot. Decent round, will play again.
General Review
Couldn’t fault the staff friendliness; very welcoming and happy to help! The course is set in a great part of Hampshire with breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside; however the course was not in the best kept condition, the fairways weren’t mown and it was hard to differentiate between rough and fairway, and the green’s although challenging, were on the long side with putts not rolling evenly or with and any degree of speed. The course has immense potential and would play again if the latter points were addressed!
Playing great.
Some bunkers have been removed however the ones that are left are plush and soft. Greens are running great and staff are brilliant.
Great atmosphere
Great welcome and the music at reception is great, loved it
overall
After the recent beating by the weather this year the course is in quite good condition and still able to be open when most are closed, played there many times and found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. Julia is always very nice and polite. one review criticised what she was wearing, that makes no difference to her being able to do her job. if that is your problem it's better for you not to come back.
Very Average
The course is on a chalk base which is a huge advantage in the current relentless wet weather we have at the moment. All of the courses in Gloucestershire have been shut for weeks so it is a real asset that this club is always open.
However while the course is open, the temp tee boxes are just mud, the bunkers are all GUR which I assumed would be because of the weather but actually they were all either overgrown, empty or filled with gravel.
The greens were awful but in fairness the weather has been bad. None were true and it felt like pot luck whether or not the ball followed the correct line.
While the lady at check in was very pleasant the gentleman who I assume was the owner was not very friendly and everything felt like an effort and inconvenience for him.
Overall main advantages are that the course can handle the weather and there are some nice holes, a good mix of long holes and short holes, some great views.
The main disadvantages are that course is not kept very well. It has the potential to be brilliant but with no active bunkers and no water hazards it offers little excitement.
Local and drains well but oh my
Not played course for 8 years and apart from greens everything else has deteriated, to the point that it needs a bit of investment and tlc to restore it to a half decent course but don't hold your breath.
Great winter golf
Considering the amount of rain conditions were amazing good fun
Very nice course
Great layout, greens was good wet in places but overall good for the time of year. Had good roll for this time of year, drive 3 of the par 4s so that was nice. Would definitely go back again in the summer.
Very unloved course
I used to play here a lot and even worked in the pronahop in the early 2000s and very sad to see what has become of this course
Couldn't use the range before we played as they hadn't collected any balls from the range
Pro shop was empty
The lady working in the shop looked like she was dressed for a night out in a low cut top, and very short leather hot pants. Very odd... Genuinely think she may have still been wearing the clothes from the night before.
The course.... Tee boxes were in dreadfull condition, scrap metal for tee markers, greens bobbly, diseased, many pitch marks. And the bunkers!! No sand in them, just compact mud/old sand and weeds. No rakes in any of the bunkers.
Really sad to see this course be so neglected.
Like an abandoned golf course
When we arrived, told we couldn't use the driving range as they hadn't collected any balls yet (it was 9am on a Saturday)
Course is a good layout but the condition is one of the poorest I've seen. Fairways are ok, but tee boxes are churned up, bumpy, not flat and the tee markers themselves are like scrap metal.
But the biggest issue was the bunkers, no sand, full of weeds, and no rakes in any of them
Greens were infected, and generally very bad condition
Pro shop is empty, nothing there
Round
Has potential.
Greens some damage.
Bunkers poor
Fairways good
Tees good
Wide fairways
Improve bunkers and greens, grow up the rough and will be a good course
