Great views, open and honest golf course
Great views, open and honest golf course that was excellent value for money. Wide open fairways with some stunning views across the Hampshire countryside. Its defences is in and around the greens where you need to be accurate, and get the speed of the greens early doors. There’s a couple of great dog leg risk reward holes (9th) and I think 17 where fortune favors the brave to drive over the corners and OB.
Great greens
This course was very quite when we played so we played in approximately 3 hours….layout good, tees poor, club house poor and greens superb…..we played after heavy rain and you would not have known as the course drains very well.
Great place to play
Great atmosphere as you walk into the proshop.
Sets you up for the round. Been having rubbish rounds lately so wasn't looking forward to the golf. However with the atmosphere in and around the building made me feel somewhat better.
Always love the views at this course, the greens have come on so much better over the last year and the fairways are fantastic. the tee boxes are still need a little tlc, but overall great improvement.
Will be playing here alot more.
Value for money
Good course. Some greens have been attacked by birds but otherwise fine. Staff mostly friendly. Course not too busy.
Potential to be so much better
Much like my old school report, the Hampshire could do so, so much better. The layout and course itself is truly spectacular but there is nothing else. Always surprises me at why the clubhouse, pro-shop, bar and restaurant are literally non-existent. Surely they are missing a huge opportunity?
No course marshal meant we were stuck behind a family of 5 in a buggy with one set of clubs between them for the last few holes, it just has an aura that no-one cares when it could be such a truly beautiful course.
That being said the green staff are doing a good job maintaining the course and greens but could put a little more TLC into the tee boxes.
Will continue to play here as its location is perfect but w forever walk off of 18 disappointed that it could easily be so, so much nicer.
Evening round
I was travelling down the A34 in extremely heavy traffic with an extended period of one hour and 46 minutes on top of the three hours I’ve been driving.
I use GolfNow to find golf courses near to where I was in the Hampshire came up as an option. Having played it in the past, I decided to leave the Dual carriageway and stretch my legs with a round of golf
The course was an amazing condition and I thoroughly enjoyed a slow quality game of golf to decompress from the frustrations of today’s traffic.
I recommend this course to anyone wanting to play an open course in amazing condition.
A Real Pleasure To Play Here
Was fortunate to arrive after morning showers had taken the fire out of the fairways, leaving the course in probably the best condition I have ever found it in. Set up just as you'd wish any course to be set up for a good round. The rough was well thinned out, making it easy to find and play my ball on the handful of occasions I strayed into it. Course was also virtually deserted. The views over the Hampshire countryside from the higher parts of the course must be amongst the best in the county. Overall, a real pleasure to play here. More people should play it
Good course
Really enjoyed playing this course. Some great challenges and a well cared for 18 holes
The Hampshire - Good
Good course. Some challenging holes but quite open so works for all standard of player. We got out early so didn't have to wait on a shot. Decent round, will play again.
General Review
Couldn’t fault the staff friendliness; very welcoming and happy to help! The course is set in a great part of Hampshire with breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside; however the course was not in the best kept condition, the fairways weren’t mown and it was hard to differentiate between rough and fairway, and the green’s although challenging, were on the long side with putts not rolling evenly or with and any degree of speed. The course has immense potential and would play again if the latter points were addressed!
Playing great.
Some bunkers have been removed however the ones that are left are plush and soft. Greens are running great and staff are brilliant.
Great atmosphere
Great welcome and the music at reception is great, loved it
overall
After the recent beating by the weather this year the course is in quite good condition and still able to be open when most are closed, played there many times and found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. Julia is always very nice and polite. one review criticised what she was wearing, that makes no difference to her being able to do her job. if that is your problem it's better for you not to come back.
Very Average
The course is on a chalk base which is a huge advantage in the current relentless wet weather we have at the moment. All of the courses in Gloucestershire have been shut for weeks so it is a real asset that this club is always open.
However while the course is open, the temp tee boxes are just mud, the bunkers are all GUR which I assumed would be because of the weather but actually they were all either overgrown, empty or filled with gravel.
The greens were awful but in fairness the weather has been bad. None were true and it felt like pot luck whether or not the ball followed the correct line.
While the lady at check in was very pleasant the gentleman who I assume was the owner was not very friendly and everything felt like an effort and inconvenience for him.
Overall main advantages are that the course can handle the weather and there are some nice holes, a good mix of long holes and short holes, some great views.
The main disadvantages are that course is not kept very well. It has the potential to be brilliant but with no active bunkers and no water hazards it offers little excitement.
Local and drains well but oh my
Not played course for 8 years and apart from greens everything else has deteriated, to the point that it needs a bit of investment and tlc to restore it to a half decent course but don't hold your breath.
