First but not last time
A course in rolling Hampshure countryside, wide fairways and some challenging holes. We walked the course but may utilise a Buggy next time!!
Great course, well kept, except bunkers
Lovely course, on the whole we'll signed between holes. Greens good, fast too. Such a shame bunkers were in unplayable condition... didn't interfere with our game though. Love to have another go... competitive prices so why not! Staff helpful and friendly.
Value for money
Course was in good condition however the first cut from the fairways was a bit long and if your golf ball settled down it was a bit difficult to find.
Stuck behind 2 ball from the 4the hole onwards who wouldn’t allow me to play through. One of them was a new starter so playing really slow. Spoiled the occasion
Staff very friendly
OK
Turned up and went to the Pro office and was met by a gentlemen who was very helpful and friendly. He told us the fairway bunkers were GUR but the greens bunkers were in play. So no surprises when we played.
The course is ok lacking in features except for a couple of holes 4th and 15th. Overall it needs a fair amount of investment to bring it up to be a good course. Everything seemed tired. Views are stunning and not a bad layout to course just needs some money being spent and ground staff to be upgraded!!
All in all for £22.00 a round at 12:15 I cant really complain.
Needs investment
My 3rd time on The Hampshire and nothing seems to change. Aside from new flag sticks and tee signs they seem to invest little in the course.
The main issue remains the bunkers. ALL fairway bunkers have been declared GUR, but greenside ones are in play. However none of the bunkers are really playable. Very little sand and full of stones. How hard is it to rake all the stones out and get several tonnes of sand in? Give me the tools and materials and I'll do it in return for lifetime 7 day membership.
Friendly staff and members
Interesting course, some really nice holes and well looked after!
Julia in the bar and club shop is a delight!
Good course
A good course that needs some love and care. The bunkers need some attention but overall a good course to play.
Great value and very friendly
Very picturesque and welcoming.
In decent condition but bear in mind the fairway bunkers are not in play (which can be a good thing!) great value and we had an enjoyable unhurried round.
Very friendly staff too
Could and should be better
The last time I played at The Hampshire, the greens were terrible, the bunkers were hard and full of stones, and the fairways weren't cut short enough. That was over a year ago. What have they done since then? Very little it seems. Fairway bunkers are GUR, due to no sand, weeds and stones. Greens obviously weren't watered during the hot spells in June and some resembled a cracked cricket pitch. They have bought new hole signs though. Phew. Thank god.
Excellent Value for money
The course is generally as rough as old boots - inconsistent and patchy greens, un-tended bunkers and awful tee boxes but frankly for £13.75 it was great value. The layout is pretty good and the views are absolutely terrific and I could not complain about the fairways and rough.
Great views, poor condition
I have now played The Hampshire three times and it is reasonable value for the money you pay. However, don't be under any illusion that this is a bargain because the course is not in great condition at all. The tee boxes were scruffy, most of the bunkers were weed ridden and unkempt and the greens were rough and inconsistent. The fairways were perfectly OK and the rough well managed and by the way, the flags on the greens were terrific! I played with my son and we played well and really enjoyed the views but I would only recommend it to high handicap or average golfers.
GREAT COURSE!
Service was exceptional really nice people and a great place to play all year round!
Not sure why there's been a few negative reviews recently?
Lady in clubhouse was friendly when checking us in and recommended getting a colder drink from another fridge.
Yes the tee boxes are a bit worn and some bunkers are in a poor condition but fairways were immaculate and greens decent. Some stunning holes with lovely views and good value for money. Enjoy playing here.
Great course
One of my favourite courses I’ve played, perfect for beginners as the fairways are very forgiving. Greens we’re in great condition. Maybe only slight concern was the condition of some of the bunkers. Apart from that an amazing time
Tired, but so much potential
From the moment you pass the ‘no stupid people beyond this point’ sign at the entrance to the clubhouse/pro shop/beer fridge area, you know that the name ‘The Hampshire’ isn’t going to be befitting one of the premier courses in the county.
Approaching the check in desk, we’re met by a couple of people who offer a weird, distant stare. Not a welcome. A look. I state my booked tee time, one of the starees confirms my name, and then says ‘ok’. No quick run through of the course facilities - do we want any range balls - there’s a gap before your tee time so if you want to go off early you can….. no, just ‘ok’.
The obligatory three balls get tossed onto the practice putting green to get an idea of pace, and it’s less of a pace/line you need to marry up, it’s how well you can bank off the weeds and dried drainage ditches that matters most.
Off out to the course, and fairway bunkers are GUR, but the green side bunkers are in play (if you’re willing to risk cracking the face of your wedges playing your ball from between the multitude of rocks you’ll find in these penalty areas). Tees are worn and muddy, and don’t appear to have been moved for a week or two - or perhaps there were many sillier people than I, paying more than I did to play here this weekend - thankful for our hot-deal to lessen the blow.
Worth also mentioning that there is an internal out of bounds and a sign telling you that you are not allowed to drive over the dog-leg on 9!
The Hampshire is set in a beautiful piece of land, working it’s way up and down some great terrain, with exceptional views, and good chalky drainage. Some of the elevated tees set you up for a real feeling of sending one as far as you’ve ever hit before, and some gettable 4’s give some good birdie opportunities…. if the greens were puttable.
It’s so disappointing that the potential of this track is just unfulfilled, and the basic attention to detail is so lacking. Every flagstick sat at a weird angle as the cups were so badly damaged, the flags looked like they’d seen some battles and the half-rake was a unique feature.
Glad I got out of the house to have a game of golf, but I’ll not be rushing back.

Agreed could be so much more.. was the place to be 20 odd years ago . Now feels like it’s foot golf with a course attached.

Not sure you needed to mention hole 9. Why would you want to drive the dogleg? Not very respectful or safe for those playing the 10th!
Agreed, it feels like it could be so much more.. but hasn’t had the investment
