Cheap and Cheerful!
The Good:
It's a good course for beginners. The 9-hole course is short, but some great, undulating holes are really fun to play. It's an affordable course that's easy to get to (even on the Tube / TFL), and for new players to golf makes for an accessible round alone or with friends. The holes are varied with some 250-300+ yards, which test the long game, and some -80 yard holes which are brilliant for experimenting with wedges. Some of the greens are fantastic, others not so much. I also met some very friendly golfers, who were willing to team up to play some holes with.
The Bad:
The conditions weren't amazing for this review, but the fairways were long and boggy in places, making shots from the deck challenging. This was even worse on a lot of the holes that slope considerably, making wedges unusable in places. It added an element that I actually didn't mind, but for most golfers, this will be painful. Unfortunately, there is a lot of litter strung along the course, which is a real shame. It looks as if teens come here in the evenings, and it could really use a clean-up. Additionally, the course is terribly mapped, making it difficult at times to understand where the next holes (and flags on some of the longer holes) are. The clubhouse is looking a touch tatty, and the staff weren't super helpful in helping to navigate the course.
If you're after a cheap and cheerful 9-hole round, in a new and, to be fair, fun course, this is good - just don't expect Pebble Beach, and you won't be disappointed.
Course should currently be closed.
Play here regularly but greens have just been aerated & sanded. Course should be closed for at least a week and thereafter reduced green fees for a while until at least the sand has "disappeared". Photo is of one of the greens but they are all the same.
No trolleys
No trolleys had to leave after five holes like teletubbie land
Poor experience
Played here for the first time and very disappointed with facilities and course.
Course does not flow and no directional arrows on where to go next. Very poor conditions, poor tee beds, poor fairways, poor greens.
No information on distance from tee to green, and the par 3 holes are so short, I’m a poor golfer and I overshot with a lob wedge on one of the holes.
There’s a driving range on site but the nets are in a terrible state so there are range balls all over the place.
Wont be visiting again I’m afraid
Excellent for a beginner or casual play
I have just begun paying and needed a location to practice away from the range. This was a recommendation by a number of scratch golfers from Hertfordshire who all said this was the place were they got started and I couldn’t agree more. The entire course is wide open, well kept and easy to navigate and allows a new player, casual player or someone seeking a quick round the chance to get outside and play without stress. I’m improving each time I visit and the openness of the course and ability to focus on practicing the basics instead of hazards has done wonders for my confidence. Definitely a stepping stone in any new golfers development but for sure a place you can gladly return to.
Mind the bunkers!
Because of the vast amount of stones!! Took a hefty chip out of one of my wedges with a hidden one. Very annoying!
Once upon a time this used to be quite a nice little 9 hole for beginners, but I have to say standards have dropped a long way. It's open and relatively easy to play, but the greens are a bit of a state and as I've mentioned the bunkers are full of stones...
Fairways are in decent condition, but the tee boxes are a shambles, almost as long as the rough in places.
A real shame to see it slide so much.
