Amazing course and layout, challenging holes in a very pretty setting with good use of water. Only one grip is pace of play. Very very slow, which just put a slight downer on the day.
Great day course in good condition and challenging.
Shame the spike bar quality did not match expectations. Needs a revamp and improved staff training
Links like track
Played on a gloriously sunny day with a light breeze - perfect to enjoy
This vast layout. Love the links type layout.
Downside - bar staff. Waited 45 minutes for 4 Mars bars and 4 beers. After 3 prompts we left. Laughably bad.
Best course I’ve played in golf now
I’ve played around 10 courses in the South-East in golf now and this was the best by a distance. A good challenge and ideal length, plenty of interest including a really fun 17th hole (you have 2 fairways to choose from, split by a large lake). It perhaps could benefit from a few more trees but in a way the open nature is part of its distinctive moor-like look. Enjoy!
Everything about the experience was first class - from the initial impression driving up to the clubhouse, the facilities, the design of the course, the pace of play and the friendliness of the staff it was a fabulous day out and I will definitely be back.
Great course. Tough,
But great. Put this one on the list. You won’t be disappointed.
Most courses I play, the design aspect never really enters my head, but as I sat having a coffee afterwards overlooking the course, it really struck me how much thought has gone into this one from a design point of view. Every possible shot has been thought of, which then creates problems, but also gives you opportunities. Not a lot of punishing rough, but enough water to keep you on your toes!
Very good, and currently a good offer on price.
Amazing and stunning
If there is anything anyone could want from a golf course and nor find it here then I don’t know what it is!!
What a selection of holes, water and landscape with great views. Challenging too - But still managed to shoot 14 over and an absolute bargain for £45
Course conditions immaculate and better than all other courses right now. Also great off course facilities and a driving range
Worth the extra few quid to play on a top quality course which was relatively quiet considering it was one of the first big golf days after lockdown.
Greens not ready for play
First day back after lockdown, and we managed to book a tee time.
All was good apart from the greens. All had been punched which made putting slow/ hit and miss.
I would have expected them to be ready to play with 3 months of no play.
This is our 3 time playing here, but probably won't play again for a long while.
This course has so much potential and if they improved the greens it would be worth a higher green fee then we paid.
This course is fantastic. The greens rolled brilliantly, some lovely dog leg approach shots over water (17th). Very reasonable price to play.
Only issue was for first 7 holes we were followed by greenstaff which was really annoying after a while
Massive potential, shame about the greens.
When lockdown is truly over and there’s time to manicure the course a little more I expect this to be a very beautiful course. Same goes for when the planted trees grow a little more over the coming years (I think I read it’s quite a new course). Now feels very "linksy". Rough is easy and not wide, beyond that, there be dragons... brutal. Fairways nice. Members and green keepers very friendly, the quasi omnipresent water plays with your head constantly which is interesting and there are quite a fee risk reward shots for the longer hitters. Open setting makes wind a great factor. All good! Except the greens, the greens were shoddy and ball spin seemed a lot less reactive, which is a real shame given their undulations and placement, (and the fact that half your shots are putts). Average Mars bar at the half way house, tasted like all the others. Loved the course though. I’d play it again.
Greens ,tee boxes were excellent considering the amount of rain they have taken the fairways were in reasonable condition again considering the amount of rain but with lots of standing water , we lost a number of balls on or just off the fairway that plugged never to be seen again .walking between holes and on to fairways was like competing in a tough mudder, great course but nearly unplayable, should have been closed.
Wet and cold but worthwhile
First time playing the Oxfordshire , £40 per person . Weather was freezing and ground was pretty soft. Greens were huge and undulating but not overly fast . Tee boxes were all off the yellows they were in good condition. Fairways were wet but very playable. Rough was tough but fair, plenty of water to play over and round. Course was full and we got round as a two ball in 3.5 hours and were let through by 2 4 ball groups. Everyone we met were very friendly and chatty .clubhouse was open but we did not go for a drink afterwards. Well worth the 90 mile drive to play !
Fantastic evening of golf, comfortably squeezed in 9 holes with no one in front or behind us. Course met every expectation. Managed to play 10, 11, 17 and 18 before the light got us. Great challenging course.
