Lovely course
Very friendly staff upon arrival. Great challenging course with beautiful surroundings. Tight fairways and overhanging trees makes this course a great challenge. I will definitely be back.
Charming, tricky course full of character
Tidy, compact course tucked away in Chester's northern outskirts. Nice variance to the layout with plenty of hazards and narrow-ish fairways to keep you on your toes. The odd quirky hole - crossing the rode to access #2 and #3 - adds to the course's character. Greens in good nick and playing fast even late in the day. On the shorter side so ideal for anyone from returning golfers (like myself) to more advanced. Will definitely be playing again.
Poor
Poor, tired, course doesn’t flow - a lot better on offer nearby.
Always worth a visit.
Course conditions were excellent despite the previous days rainfall. Might be a little short for some but still a decent challenge.
Disappointing
It’s been about 4 years since I last played Upton. Today a very frustrating round. Pace of play was very poor with us waiting 10-15 minutes on each tee. Par fours taking 20-25 minutes to complete. On the 2nd hole there were 4 pairs waiting to tee off behind a seniors 4 ball scramble. Chap (from the pro shop) who came over in a cart was less than helpful said we should just play the first two holes over and over to get our 18 in. Overall it felt like they had just wanted to cram as many rounds in as possible on a sunny Friday at the detriment of the pace of play. Wouldn’t play here again. Course in ok Nick but very short 230yrs par 4’s - 3 or 4 drivable length and shared fairways just made it feel disappointing. Can get much better quality golf courses for better value all around the Wirral and Chester. Shame. Avoid.
Great course
Great course, boggy in parts but is to be expected this time of year
Course not as stated on their website
Disappointed for the price we paid as it stated on course website 18 holes open.
There was 1 hole on temp green and all tee's where on temp mats.
Greens we played where good for time of the year but most of the course was soft and wet even though had no rain for cpl weeks.
Would play again but would be in summer.
Upton By Chester
Great course with adequate facilities for the travelling golfer. Staff were extremely helpful. A little held up by slow play ahead but was to be expected with the conditions on the day. Overall good course and great value for the area.
Amazing condition and course
Well worth the money amazing place course is in amazing condition would totally recomend this place 5 stars all round
Very good course in great condition.

On the day they had a comp on and it was very slow but the course was in very good condition and staff very friendly would play again thanks john Mac
Great course
Lovely little course and unbelievable for the money
Decent course, needs ground keeping.
Actually enjoyed this course, some really nice holes and plays very tight so need to think about your club choice off tee. Greens were in excellent condition for time of year and were interesting with very few straight putts. Staff and members were very friendly and helpful as we both had never played the course. A great halfway house with bacon butties was very welcome!
Downsides : The fairways are in desperate need of a cut and play like semi rough in places and the rough was horrible which made any errant tee shot very difficult to find when you add in the wet and the leaves. I suspect the wet weather has delayed this and am sure that if we played in summer it would be excellent given the quality of the greens. The winter mats are new but some don’t have homes to place wooden tees so if you’ve no plastic ones it takes driver out of the picture( actually probably helped ). The signposting of next holes is poor but thanks to the members being so helpful we found out way round fine. Overall I enjoyed and would play again but probably in drier conditions .I felt £40 was a bit steep given the playing conditions- would pay in summer but felt it was poor value for the condition of the course on the day.
Gem of a course
First time playing here and didn't disappoint! Initially when we arrived was a little drizzly but didn't make much difference. The fairways were great and the greens were really quick and well looked after. The course has more par 3"s then an average but some of them are very challenging and especially one at ,237 yards. Overall a fantastic course, staff were nice and friendly and well worth the visit
Great little course
3rd time i’ve played upton, and enjoyed each round. Its a lot more challenging thsn i expected and if you aren’t hitting the ball that accurately it can be really unforgiving. That said with all the par 3’s it does give you a chance of shooting a good score but sadly i haven’t yet round there haha.
Course is in excellent condition considering the shocking winter we’ve had although the greens need a bit of sunshine & TLC over the coming months to get them in tip top condition. Overall really well designed and maintained course. Would definitely play again
