I don’t want to diss the place to much as it’s £25 peak tee off on a Saturday and courses like that allow people who don’t want to spend £50+ a round a place to play. The holes are very straight forward except for 2/3, the course wasn’t in great condition especially the tee boxes BUT the weather has been stupidly dry all summer with rain the last couple of days so it’s difficult to slag any course off except the very elite as it must be so hard to keep the course going through such a dry spell. I will say some of the temp tee boxes haven’t had the grass cut though so I would say that’s a negative as if they’re setting up a tee box at least so some prep to the area you’re going to use. The biggest problem I had with the course was the sheer amount of leaves, the ground staff hadn’t even attempted to remove any of them and the course was full of groups of men kicking leaves to try and find their ball. That was a let down. Members are friendly, but didn’t talk to any staff other then a grunt from the girl on the desk when I asked how to get to the first tee so I can’t talk to much about the staff or facilities. 2/5 I’d give it, not awful but you get what you pay for these days
Not great value for money
We arrived expecting to use the practice nets for a warm-up, but unfortunately they were no longer there.
We then proceeded to the first tee. While it was not the poorest condition we have encountered this year, it was below the standard we would expect. On many holes, it was difficult to identify the teeing area, with only wooden tee markers containing exposed nails indicating the location. None of the tee boxes were level, and the condition of the 17th tee was particularly disappointing, with no grass coverage and the yellow tee area consisting of four pieces of worn artificial turf.
The fairways appear to require further cutting despite the recent dry weather, and the greens would benefit from additional watering to prevent further deterioration. In addition, when new hole positions are introduced, the surrounding area should be rolled, as several of the positions were noticeably crowned.
Overall, it appears that greater investment has been directed towards the bar facilities than the golf course itself. However, the condition and presentation of the course are what ultimately attract golfers and encourage repeat visits.
In summary, at a cost of £25, we did not feel the experience represented good value for money.
Tee box’s in terrible condition
Out of the 18 holes only had one Tee box had grass. Shame as the course was let down by this
Great Deal
The course is playing really well and for the price its a bargain.
The pace was a little slow on the front 9 due to in house competition, but not really horrible.
Would play this course again.
Not bad
Good value for money course, layout is good and a little challenging on some holes. Greens were well kept but some tee boxes appeared more like bunkers, however considering the hot weather, it was as expected.
The club house could do with some renovation as it's showing its age, carpark is also quite bumpy with lots of holes.
Only thing I would complain about was the warm up net in front of the First tee. On my second shot, the ball flew UNDER the net and hit another golfer on the first tee square in the back. A full swing 3 wood shot straight into another golfer at 20 meters away is most definitely unsafe, and this is aggravated by the fact the staff were aware of this issue previously. The net was promptly taken down once the golfer who was hit complained. Compensation was most definitely due here.
I will be playing here again, but I won't be using the net!
Slow play
Have played here lots of times over the years and can see the condition of the course is definitely improving. Unfortunately the pace of play is far too slow and will has put me off playing again here for a while at least. We had to walk off the course after only completing 12 holes in 3 hours and 20 minutes. Also had to park about 1/4 mile away from the course on this particular day as there was an event at the venue next to the golf club and people going to that had taken all the spaces.
Saturday morning round
Fun course , really enjoyed playing it. There was a comp infront of us so play was a touch slow but not too bad. Greens could’ve been quicker. But overall great value for money and will come back
We had the same issue a while back and the 4ball (ladies) wouldn’t let us play through as we were only a 2ball.
Poor course conditions - expected there to be improvements
Have played plenty of times over the years but the first time since it has been taken over by new ownership. Have heard that there has been improvements but tee boxes, greens and fairways looked worse than ever. Won't be coming back for a long time.
Not Great condition
I know the club has recently had a few problems and they are trying there best, for me the course should be better looked after, the tee boxes were overgrown,a few of the greens were quite bad, the clubhouse bar is great and really friendly staff but the course needs some serious attention
Terrible
The worst course I’ve ever played. It’s a pub with a field out back. Half the holes were closed and the ones that weren’t were terrible. I’d ask for money back as it was that bad
Pleasantly surprised
Haven't played this course since last year, lots of trees but effort has been made to clear the main fairway's,greens in good nick, plenty of grounds staff knocking about, course has improved since last played and fair value for money
Very cheap but wouldn't rush back.
Very cheap but very frustrating as pace of play is very slow. Greens need more love and care. No scorecards and no buggeys. Too many dog walkers and not enough course etiquette. If your a bit of a serious golfer then wouldn't recommend. But if your starting out and don't care much for plenty of distractions then this is the place for you. Club house is the highlight 👌
Cheap 18 holes
Great price for 18 holes, picked a late tee off which was a mistake as treated my missus and stepson to their first round of golf so was slow paced and only made it to the 14th before darkness came from no where. Disappointed with the fairways as felt penalised for hit good shots because fairways battered in leafs so impossible to find your ball as they tuck under the leaves and when I say leaves I mean like 20tons worth on 80% of fairway.
Cheap 18 holes
Booked a late tee off with missus and step son and was there first even course they’d played. Not the easiest to navigate but we managed just about, rented a buggy too. Unfortunately darkness came fast and didn’t make it passed the 14th hole. Only downside was amount of balls lost, fairways absolutely battered in leafs like an unusual amount so a good hit and staying on fairway ment the balls tucked under leaves and impossible to find.
Good round
Played Ellesmere Port Golf Club recently and really enjoyed the round. The course was in good condition, fairways well kept and the greens rolled nicely with a decent pace. It’s a fairly flat layout which makes it an easy walk, but there’s still enough challenge with some tight holes and well-placed hazards. The clubhouse was welcoming with friendly staff and reasonably priced food and drinks. Overall, a great value course that’s ideal for both casual golfers and those wanting a solid test.
Good value for money
It’s a public course and offers golfers a healthy challenge from high handicappers to low ones. Tee boxes and greens are not in great shape but the course itself presents challenges with its parkland layout.
Greens Need Alot Of Work
This course has been wrecked by poor management in recent past.
However work is now being done to correct this, the fairways and Tee boxes are fine generally, but the greens are still very poor, it looks like it'll take along time to restore it to it's previous high standard
There’s now no net. I get the issue with the dry weather but the least they can do is water the greens and Tee boxes. I’ve played at some courses for the same price and couldn’t fault their Tee boxes.
