Wanstead Golf Club
About
Wanstead Golf Club stands in the grounds of what was until its destruction in 1824 one of the most famous and luxurious stately homes of the 18th century.
Established in 1893 the course has developed from the initial James Braid design to incorporate later features by renowned architects Messrs Colt, MacKenzie and Allison. Today Wanstead presents a fair golfing challenge over an interesting 6000 yard, par 69 course.

Established course
The warm welcome from the pro kicked off this round well , he was very friendly and helpful. We picked a bad weather day as it was cool and windy but the course was very quiet.
This course is an old established one and no the longest but some tough par 4's ,1 par 5 and 4 par 3's. greens are consistent. With a few on a separate piece of land , 150 yard walk from the 1st green
Would play again .
Lovely course in a lovely part of London
Very nice clubhouse with very good amenities. Gentleman in pro shop was very welcoming and filled us in on any need to know info. Course was challenging but not too complex. Some lovely tee positions and greens were in lovely condition with some good tight tee positions. Only thing which was a tad annoying was there was a couple of blind tee shots where a post down the fairway wouldve helped. Definitely will play this course again
Nice course
Really enjoyed this course. Friendly welcome in the club pro shop then a great round. Course quite empty so round in 3 hours. Course in good condition a greens very true and fast. Course layout Is mixed. There are a few quite samey par 4s but the par 3s are all excellent and there isn't much rough. The fact I had a great round with 4 birdies obviously has nothing to do with the review:)
Finally
I've been looking for a good course close to home and found it here at Wanstead. Not a long course so advise playing off the back tees especially if it's dry. Some great holes with elevated greens. Greens were true and well kept. One or two cross over holes and 4 holes separate to the rest of the course. I paid £22 and was definitely worth more. Buy a course stroke saver, some places you don't want to miss!
Disgraceful members
Course was very nice, however we arrived to have to park in a nearby street as the "guest" car park was full
turns out there was a pro am event on (not advised of this when booking)
took 5 hours for 4 of us to get round constantly being held up by the pros
then a bunch of members decided to have a go at us for holding them up when we waiting on a par 3 because the pro's had just finished and were teeing off.. were told that we should just hit the ball and shout fore if it goes near them.. I was always taught to wait until the tee was clear if it was just to the side of the green to avoid hurting someone
not like we could be holding them up either considering we were on the heels of the group ahead
