Best kept greens in east London
Woodford is a very beginner friendly course with a good variety of difficulties. Fairways are generally not too narrow so great for practicing driver shots.
As per title, honestly the best kept green i've seen on a public course, great for levelling up the putting game. Unfortunatelu fairways are not as well kept but still decent.
Note that it isn't fully a 18 course but rather 9 holes played twice but with different tee spots - quite interesting how much difference tee spot makes in a hole!
A great public course for breaking 100
A nice double loop of 9 greens with different tee boxes for the back 9, and a par 70 which makes it great for breaking 100/90/80!! Also much quieter than the other nearby courses which makes it a great spot for beginners or anyone looking to get a full round done in London in under 3.5-4 hours 😅
Great value course
I’m a beginner female golfer and I really enjoyed my round here. Everyone was very friendly and the staff are exceptional. Lots of quite challenging holes for me and not too far to walk between them.
The course is good but golf now put me with another player which i was not happy at all as im someone that that goes to play golf to be on on my own as im very intravert and dont like being around people and find it very uncomfortable at times, so i feel very strong about this as its a mental health condition and GN should confirm if your willing to play with others not just assume that im ok with it, i actully got 2 holes in and just wanted to leave due the anxiaty this was causing me. there is a reason i play golf and that is to be on my own when i feel i need to be.
Suits me
I’m a novice and this is my local course. Greens are in superb condition despite the current drought conditions. Fairways are parched but that is to be expected. Friendly staff. Tee off was 4:15. Courses was empty. So no pressure from players behind. For £15 what’s not to like.
Superb
Superb greens. Truly sublime. Gem of a course. Play here a lot and always enjoy the challenge. Well done to the Green Keeper, deserves a medal. Friendly golf club. Thank you.
Fabulous Greens!!!
Hats off to the greens staff. Per usual, done an incredible job to the fairways and greens, which are OUTSTANDING! 6hcp player. IMO… best greens in Essex. Well done !
Very confusing course
Such a confusing course for someone who doesn’t know the course.
I booked 18 holes but it’s was actually 9holes played twice just from a different tee box. Once onto the course from hole two to hole 9 stunning lay out! Just so many dog walkers and kids playing in the fairways .
Nice tight course in good condition
Nice tight course in Epping Forest. The rough has recently been cut well back but is starting to regrow so any stray balls tend to remain unfound! Tees, fairways and greens in good condition and play well. As there are only nine actual holes some of the back nine tees are in exactly the same location as the front nine tees but that doesn't prevent the course being enjoyable to play for either nine or eighteen holes. I'll definitely play there again.
Superb Greens!
Superb greens. Fairways excellent. Brilliant variety of holes despite only 9 greens. Friendly staff (including the Course Marshall). Thank you as always for providing an excellent golfing experience.
Exceptional Greens
6 hcap, played on Monday 2nd June. Superb greens. Fairways in excellent condition. Tee boxes always suffer, owing to size and double useage, despite having 18 separate assigned tee off positions to the 9 incredible greens.
Friendly course Marshall doing his job very well and ushering me through a slower 2 ball, not required but appreciated.
This is a very good course. Despite its length (relatively short with at least 2 drivable par 4s (1st and 7th) and makeable par 5 in 2, 6th hole), the course requires respect, and can easily bite. Play the percentage when needed because the course will present opportunities. Thanks to the greens staff/marshall and all concerned.
Racism Club
I definitely encountered racism here. The manager of the club, who is clearly familiar with their rules, treated us unfairly. We were asked to leave our credit card as a deposit for a trolley that we had already paid for. Later, we found out that leaving a credit card is only required for people who rent clubs — not for trolleys. No one else was asked to do this, except for the two of us, both Asian women. This is blatantly discriminatory and completely unacceptable. I will never recommend this club to anyone.
Fast fairways, slow greens.
I re-read my original review and everything still applies. Absent are benches, ball washers, on-course bathrooms or port-o-potties or comforts of any kind. You must consider the slope of the fairway before picking a target line because it is quite common to hit a straight drive down one side and end up on the other side. There is a strange spot where a par 3 plays right across the fairway of a par five. Several of the tee boxes are placed in such a way to put those upon it at risk. The greens were strangely slow, and I came up short on putts nearly every time. Considering the price and the pleasant staff, I'd say it was still worthwhile overall.
Very confusing
We turned up to the club house (club shack), we was expecting some form of staff member to be around considering it was a Monday, so we could sit down in the club shack before our round. However, the staff member that was working was out playing with the members. Normally, i would suggest that is a good thing to do, however, when youre the only staff member working, i would suggest not to do this.
Nice 9 holes, excellent value for money.
Nice friendly course. Exceptional value for money. Played well in the dry. Decent enough length and couple of nice water challenges. Check in at the bar before you tee off and ask for an explanation re finding the 2nd and 3rd holes. Would definitely recommend for a nice 9 holes near to central London.
