Widnes Golf Club

Played at the back end of April during a warm spell, the course its self it well set out. There’s a few holes crossing each other but on the whole it’s a good layout.

The greens were bad!! The guy in the shop did warn us but still at £30 a round they shouldn’t be so bad. The fairways were quite long and on a couple of holes there’s daisys everywhere.

That said with some more TLC of the greens if could be a nice track.

Have played Widnes a few times over the last 18-24 months and I have never seen the greens in such shocking condition. Lots of bald marks everywhere and looked like not been mowed making it virtually impossible to putt. Understand it’s early in the season but charging £30 when the greens are so poor is not good. No warning issued when booking about the greens. Won’t be returning anytime soon.

This is a nice course that needs some help to get the best out of it but definitely worth a round if you are close

Widnes golf club is still recovering from a bad winter.

Some of the greens where in a bad condition and on top of this the greens had been aerated. I fully understand course need to do this to maintain greens.

I don't believe Widnes is currently worth the £30 pp we spent due the condition of the greens.

First things first. Amazing welcome and very friendly staff, could not have done more. Fun challenging course with very different format than other courses. Unfortunately the greens were not in great condition with a number of grounds under repair / sand added and assuming spiking had only just taken place.

Few minor points for club to hopefully improve on.

1) Fresh water and attention to ball cleaners

2) Lack of bins on the course

Will probably return one day in summer.

Great value for money,a course in decent condition considering it is March. All greens operating.

Staff were very helpful and friendly. The course is not too long and the holes are varied and interesting.,mostly tree lined. There are strategically placed ditches on some holes.

All in all an enjoyable experience.

Decent course but some routes to the next tee are confusing, I would suggest more signs.

Some greens were a low standard but it is still “winter” so acceptable.

For the time of year the course was in good condition, fairways good and greens were excellent.

Very good value.

Decent course, relatively short, especially on winter tees! Enjoyable, we were slowed down massively by a pair infront of us but not the clubs fault! Will play again when the weather is better - was boggy in places but to be expected given the recent weather

Played today although course was wet the course was on proper tees and full greens. Ball was rolling

No leaves which has improved since last time I played.

You could use mats or play from rough.

No pros shop now apparently he has left.

Members were very friendly had the course to myself.

Only 3 bad greens where they are very patchy but only at the edges and doesnt get in the way of play.

Course is a great layout. Every hole is different and challenging.

Well worth a visit.

Shame the Membership fees have increased by 25% otherwise I would have joined in April 2025.

Good course. Main greens still in play, but have been hollow tynned. Leaves off trees present a challenge finding balls but clearing of leaves done daily. Worth a journey to play the course though

I played Widnes GC yesterday as part of getting back into golf after a long lay off. It was the idea course for me as it was fairly flat, open and not overly long. I cant fault the course it was in good condition generally (even after a lot of rain) with only the bunkers needing a bit of attention. I will be going back soon.

Very nice course , always well presented, greens in good condition considering the weather we have had over the last couple of months, nice pint afterwards with very friendly staff and reasonable priced food

A great day out one of our group had a puncture so was running late but the staff were very tolerant and accomadating

My brother was screamed at by the course ranger for having his bag on the tee. Honest mistake but the reaction from the course ranger was so aggressive and completely over the top. The type of reaction and experience that stops people getting into golf. Wouldn't recommend.
