Wasted £25 - walked off after 12 holes in 3 1/2 hours
Booked to play as a one ball. Walked off after 3 1/2 hours and having only played 12 holes. A waste of £25, slow 4 balls across the whole course and nobody willing to let anybody through.
Course was in ok condition.
Enjoyable course
Have played this course a coup,e of times since discovering it in June. I thoroughlly enjoyed the experience and would definitely recommend it.
The staff were super friendly and the course was in really good condition. There are some really good holes that make you think about how to tackle them. Some of the par 4s are shortish, but you need to keep the ball in play as there are hazards aplenty!
Great little course
Nicely kept course you can tell it’s well looked after. Greens were really nice and fast too, the odd one or two greens had brown/damaged patches which I’m guessing has been all the bad weather.
Lovely Course
Course , both fairways and greens in excellent condition. Challenging course, well worth a visit
Decent conditions but layout not good
Greens were in good condition and course in general was good. However, there are several holes that cross one another which causes delays and lots of time waiting for others to play- and that was on a not very busy day. Was made worse by being stuck behind a 4 ball that wouldn’t let me play through. I would imagine when the course is busy the pace of play is really slow.
Widnes Golf Course
A really nice day with my son
Very pleasant staff nice welcome and easy to book.
Nice tree lined course.
Hopefully if we get a summer will play again
Widnes golf course
Very pleasant staff nice tree lined course
Good test for mid high handicappers
Very welcoming to non members
Good day all round
Nice course, in need of some TLC
I've played here before on a couple of occasions, but not for a while, so thought we'd head back. Obviously the weather of the last 6-8 months or so has had an impact on golf courses and I think Widnes is still recovering from it. I like the course and the variety of holes, although how 1 or 2 cross over takes a bit of getting used to and where the next tee is. Pace of play was good and staff at the club friendly and helpful. But, the course needs a bit of work, as it had a slight muni feel for me - fairways hadn't been cut and had patches of longer grass (maybe as it is still soft in places) and rough was bumpy and churned up in places. But the tees really needed some TLC (cut and divots at least filled) and about half a dozen greens had patches that were re-turfed and it simply hadn't taken (although were a reasonable pace and roll). Green staff we saw were strimming the edges of red stake brooks when maybe there were more important jobs to be done focusing on! I'd go back, as £20 was a fair green fee, but not for a while when hopefully some work has happened.
Disappointed
I’ve played widnes a few times over the years, this was easily the worst I’ve seen it… I can accept the weather is partly to blame, but not to the extent this was . Fairways were like the first cut and had clumps of cut grass everywhere. Some of the greens had patches of dead grass on them, members were nice though.
The course was poor
Fairways not cut, greens slow, alot of GUR or bare patches both on the fairways and greens.
Very disappointing
This course is in my home town so would love to be able to give it a good review, unfortunately the greens are in a shocking condition, quite a few greens have got GUR signs on them and bald patches, fairways in reasonably good condition but could do with a cut, i can't see me visiting it in the near future tbh, considering that it's a private course i was shocked by the condition and the price per round, i know of a few municipal courses in the area that i will be using for the foreseeable future, i do hope the problems are resolved by the club soon 🙄
Awful course conditions
We have played this course on a few occasions and have always enjoyed it.
But after this visit I would never ever go back to this course
The course was a absolute disgrace the greens all had patches cut out, the fairway was the same length as the rough.
We lost 4 balls on the 5th fairway even though we all hit the fairway due to daisy's been all over the fairway.
DO NOT PLAY THIS COURSE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE
Played on the evening on the 30th April and I can honestly say it was the worst golfing experience I have ever had in the 20+ years that I have been playing the game.
Where to start.
Fairways uncut and 8 inches deep, lost numerous balls after hitting drives into the so called "fairways", holes in the floor, tractor tracks everywhere, nearly rolled my ankles on numerous occasions on hidden holes in the ground (presenting a safety risk) especially for older players, hardly possible to walk on with the grass being so long everywhere, tee areas patchy and uneven, greens very poor with the ball bobbling a lot.
Only the last hole the grass was sort of cut properly and even that green was patchy.
If you go in the first cut of rough, forget looking for your ball.
Greens/bunkers appear either diseased or bare and most of them are under GUR or have incomplete turfing.
I have sympathy with the recent bad weather that we have had in terms of maintenance but to have the course open in the first place and then charge £25 per person per round is wrong!!
Prior to booking the day before I had rang up and asked the guy in the pro shop if the greens were on full 18 holes and the response i got was "weather depending".
If i had known that the course was in such a state we would not have booked and played on it and we really should have been advised on this.
Just feel like we have been conned out of paying £25 with the course appearing desperate for money, hence them allowing us to book this in the first place.
The guy in the pro shop was friendly, hence the 4 star review on this and not sure if he was fully clued up with the overall state of the course but i wouldn't have even gave a 1 star review if provided with that option.
Massive shame as have played this course numerous times over the last couple of years and it has always been spot on.
Looks like it has been totally let go and it should be closed down in order for full maintenance to be carried out.
I will be demanding a full refund but after this review i highly doubt that I will receive one.
It is only right that I inform other people who are intending to book a round here not to play on the course.
A Rough Day!
Checked the club website before booking and it stated all greens and tees on. Unfortunately these were obviously the only parts of the course that had seen a mower for months! I appreciate that we have had bad weather recently but the muni I play normally is in fantastic condition compared to this. Hard to distinguish between the fairway and primary rough and spent most of the round looking for balls despite finding middle of fairway on numerous occasions. Luckily managed to find a few pieces of concrete to play with along the way in order to save my decent balls. I suggest that the course shuts for a week of maintenance to get it in order for the forthcoming golf season as this is not golf as we know it! Reminded me of trying to play football on council pitch when the groundsman had been on strike! Charged £25 for the privilege.
