Cold Spring Country Club
About
Cold Spring Country Club is situated halfway between Springfield and Worcester. Opened in 2010 in an effort to bring world class golf to western Massachusetts, the club has since garnered a local following. The par-71 layout is unique in that it has six par 3s and five par 5s. There are also some par 4s in the 450-yard range. The 6,521-yard length indicated on the scorecard can be deceiving since it feels much longer when you're playing it. The golf course has plenty of variety, including dogleg lefts, doglegs rights, short holes, and long holes. Thanks to its mountaintop locale, Cold Spring C.C. offers stunning views that are as diverse as the holes. The vistas from the elevated tees and greens stretch to the Berkshires, Connecticut, and Vermont. From the golf course's highest tee box on the par-3 10th, you'll have a panoramic view of central Massachusetts.

The scenery is spectacularly panoramic at several of the Cold Spring tees and greens. This is the first hole, a par-three. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 07/05/2022

A terrific par-5 of 490, the second demands good shotmaking to find this green safely. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 07/05/2022

Although modern, the course maintains a natural feel. Secluded, too, on some holes, such as the sixteenth. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 07/05/2022

Great first impression
Met at my car by one of the young attendents. Loaded my clubs and drove me to the clubhouse. Put me with a threesome and went off at our scheduled tee time. Great property with nice mountain views. Ride, Ride, Ride! Lots of elevation change and long rides to next tee box. Course in great shape.
Worth the drive
Not your cookie cutter layout with very interesting golf holes, conditions are above average, greens ran true tees on the firm side. Staff was helpful and welcoming. They switched nines around so watch your GPS.Pace was good 4 1/4 for 18.Purchase a yardage book or play with someone who has played there before, some tricky shots. Course knowledge would definitely help. Very enjoyable day will be going back. Take a cart.
Hot deal on a really nice course!
Was looking to play somewhere near me in Western Mass that I hadn't played before. I have played almost all the other public courses in the vicinity (The Ranch, Crestview, Ledges, Oak Ridge, Westover, Chicopee, St. Anne, Agawam, Edgewood, Southwick, Shaker Farms, Eat mountain, Tekoa, ) so was looking forward to a "new" course.
Had good reviews and talking to people that had played there in my golf league seemed like it was worth giving a try.
Got a "hot deal" for 18 with a cart for 2:15 on a Sunday for $35 a person. Great bargain. Course was empty and we had no one behind us and very few in front of us.
Course was in very good shape. Tee boxes were decent with some rougher ones but not really noticeable. They were flat and groomed just a bit dry. Fairways were very nice with no burns or dirt to be found. Rough was the only thing that seemed to be lacking and it may still be maturing? Rough was not long and was playable in most places but just of a lower quality compared to the rest of the course. A lot of the wholes were tree lined and worse poison ivy lined. We stayed out of it luckily but man did it seem like there was a ton of poison ivy there.
Had a quick lunch at a very nice and modern upper level bar. Not a lot of golfers there but staff there and at clubhouse were very nice.
Bunkers and their crushed marble were just a dream to play from compared to most of the other local courses "dirt".
I believe they recently swapped the front nine and back nine around as they had newly printed basic scorecards that were different than what my GPS was showing as the first hole. Even their website lists the holes in the previous order. So the 200 yard 18th is now the 9th. Be a man and hit a driver up it to the green. Was pleasantly surprised I made it on in one and two putted for a birdie but that hole could ruin a good round if you land short once, or twice, or worse...
Will definitely visit there again though for the right price. If I see another "Hot Deal" for it I'll be headed back and will be more comfortable with hole layouts and blind shots about for sure.
Fantastic and fun golf course
This is a unique and fantastic golf course. It is one of the best golf courses I've played this year. The course was firm and fast. Greens were immaculate and ran true. There is room to work the ball but anything out of play is gone. This is a shot makers course. The greens are the best in the area. If you like par 5's and 3's, this is your course. Many picturesque views and outstanding conditions.
Fun course to play
Very nice course and fun to play. It's lay out is strange lots of par 5's and 3's. But can be challenging.
Cold Springs is FIRE FLAMES HOT!!!
I recently played Cold Spring Country Club with a good friend of mine. We booked a 2:30 tee time on 7/31/14. This was my 4th time playing the course. Upon arrival you can tell you are in for a fantastic golfing experience. This place is BRAND NEW. The clubhouse is a beautiful two story facility with great landscaping and a fantastic view of the Quabin Valley. When pulling up to the bag drop, a young attendant hustled over to out car with a clean cart and offered to put our bags on for us. We then made out way into the pro shop and found a large selection of merchandise of all brands. All of the staff is friendly and didn't treat us any differently for booking a $16 deal for 18 holes with a car (none of the money goes to the golf course when booking a hot deal). We decided to hit range and instead of trying to up-sell us, the shop attendant suggested that one range bucket would be plenty for the two of us. One of the only complaints i can think of is that the tees were so far back on the range, coupled with the severe downhill grade, made it impossible to see any of the yardage markers <200y. We made our way to the practice green and realized that we were in for a tough day of putting as the greens must have been rolling 10+ on the stimp meter. When it came time to tee off, my buddy and i (both <4 handicaps) decided to play the tips. Although it only plays to about 6500y, this course feel extremely long. Thank god i had my driving game or else i would have been in for a long day. Throughout the round, i was reminded why Cold Spring is one of the premiere public courses in western Mass. The bent-grass fairways mowed to perfection. beautifully maintained rough, and exquisite views made for a very enjoyable round aesthetically. The calling card of this course is the bunkers, all are filled with crushed white marble which is absolutely gorgeous. Seriously, if it's a bright day, you better be wearing sunglasses if you find yourself in the beach. Overall, this course is a must play for anyone in the greater Springfield area. Just make sure you bring the long ball.
Great course
The course was in excellent shape the staff was welcoming and knowledgeable, the facility was spotless. I'll be playing there again.
Can score well here if you stay out of the rough
2nd time playing the course, 5 sets of tees make for an enjoyable change from the usual 3 sets you find. If you keep the ball in the fairway the opportunity is there to shoot well, the few times I ventured into the rough it cost me. Biggest concern was the condition of the greens, tons of unrepaired ballmarks, this is more on the players who don't fix their marks than the course staff.
Best round ever
My husband I had played as a twosome and he had his best round ever. Course conditions were excellent, my husband played from the blue tees, I played from the reds. Lots of elevated tees and dog-legs. Fairway bunkers come in to play on several holes Greens were consistent. Play moved at a good pace. They have recently added a driving range which is still being developed, but a definite plus. The clubhouse is new and well appointed with a good size pro shop and an upstairs restaurant and bar,. Staff is friendly and attentive. Definitely one of our favorite courses in the area.
Tough course but fun to play
I like this course and it is pretty difficult to play at times. The staff is extremely friendly and was a huge help. I played the course early in the spring and everything was in great condition other than the tee boxes. The grass seems to be dead on most the tee boxes. The second time I played it in the middle of the summer the tee boxes were still dead. A lot of the tee boxes are just sand/dirt. The only other thing was that I noticed is that on a few fairways there were sections with a lot of divots. Other than that I thought the course played great, the greens were excellent, and I really do enjoy playing this course.
Quirky Layout
The course was in great shape...manicured fairways and fast greens. Greens are small and tricky. Course has several quirky holes with several par 5's well under 450 yds. Also a closing par 4 of only 200+ yds. I get the feeling they ran out of real estate when designing the course. If you can overlook the quirkiness and enjoy the views and conditioning, you will have a great time, as we did.
Worth the 2 hour drive!
Great newer course. Greens, fairways and tee boxes were in excellent condition. Rough was "rough"! Traps are crushed white marble and were very predictable. Pro Shop staff and restaurant staff were great! Can't wait tho play here again.
No Complaints
Challenging but not intimidating, nice fairways.Pleasing to the eye some greens need work though but its not hacked up I played worst
Cold Spring CC
Fairly new course that is still in the process of developing. Very challenging playing from back tips, not recommended, unless your a skilled player. Several narrow fairways, easy to loose balls in hazards or woods. Yardage not always accurate, plays longer. Course not yet available on GolfBuddy. Do not use Golfnow direction to course, it will lead you to a wrong location, approx. 3 miles away from the course.
Only negative experience was that there was a shotgun golf outing scheduled that morning starting at 9AM. I had a 7:30 T time, neither the young man at the Pro Shop or the Starter informed about the outing. When I reached the 11th hole, there were 2 groups waiting to Tee off. Was forced to leave the course. I complained at the Pro Shop and was given a $10 voucher. They should have told me about the outing before I teed off, could have played elsewhere, ruined my Sunday morning.
The reason golf is losing millions of players a year
Course in good shape. Pro Shop staff helpful. Pace of play: DREADFUL!!! 5 HOURS AND 10 MINUTES TO PLAY 18 HOLES. The group in front of us took 6-9 minutes looking for lost balls, had no consideration for groups behind them. On at least five different occasions the group behind us and our group were waiting on the same tee for the group in front of us to clear the green.
Fun course to play
For the better golfer this is a fun place to play because of the risk reward and the opportunity to make birdies. There are good tee options for all abilities. If you are not on your game you will get penalized.
Quirky but fun
the course has some 'funky' holes, I like that those few are out of the norm....you can play the norm everywhere any day, this is a fun course because of the few quirky holes other than those it is quite 'normal' conditions are great! got a great deal on golfnow
cold springs in nice
The course is definitely above average and the greens were still very fast even with the coming back from aeration. It was in nice conditions and has a nice layout except for the last hole. Seems like they fit it in, 190 yards straight up hill. Green slopes due to being on the side of a hill. Last hole could have been better but rest of course is nice
Visually Beautiful... Somewhat odd layout.
I will definitely play this course again but will play from the whites instead of the blues as it plays longer than the card says.
A few 'blind' greens you must hit into and some very protective bunkers around them.
I love the crushed marble bunkers and had to wear sunglasses for a bunker shot because it's so bright in them.
Everyone should play this course at least once but not everyone will love it due to the dramatic elevation changes(both up and down).
Nice place to golf!
The course is in very nice shape. I played from the whites and my wife played from the red. Course has a nice mix of challenging par 3's and long fours.
I would recommend this course to anybody.
